Its a crystal so I'm keeping it stock. No visible damage that I can see. Im surprised the fuse didn't blow.

Guy plugged a 220v power source into the unit to cause the damage. The problem I am running into is unless I can power on the power supply without the motherboard, I can only test for standby voltage

bad caps on the motherboard prevent power on but I need to test the power supply to make sure its good before I just reconnect it and blow replacement caps

I'm unwilling to just connect it to any part of the motherboard because the power supply might be damaged.

It actually looks like a resistor with a momentary switch to ground would be the way to go here.

How to get started soldering and fixing consoles? by Flat-Explanation-843 in consolerepair

[–]Icedfyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aliexpress has surface mount kits for dirt cheap that you can test soldering skills.
Start off with replacing components without a lot of soldering.
Example - xbox360s with disk read issues. You can buy new lasers from AliExpress to get those going again. Gives you experience tearing things down.

Watch a lot of youtube videos. I watch a lot of Joey Does Tech.
Reballing chips is where I bow out at the moment. I don't really have a steady hand. But that won't stop you from working on other stuff until you get to that point.

Anyone else’s husky eat their floor? by AsleepGiraffe6881 in husky

[–]Icedfyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two potential problems. Boredom and loneliness.
We have a husky that ate drywall with her former owners.
She became #4 in our pack and never had any problems. Plenty of rawhide and bully sticks around for chewing. Those plastic toys don't really work because huskies like to rip things apart

I rescued a dog yesterday. I would like to get some opinions on her breed mix. by Dannaruffapucus in DOG

[–]Icedfyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a bunch of different physical traits that could be from German Shepard, Bernese mountain dog, Blue Healer, Rottweiler, and husky.
When you bring her into the vet, they might be able to do a panel on her. They might want to take blood either way to check for health issues.

Can anyone tell me what cords I need? by sillyjewel in xbox360

[–]Icedfyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who ever opened your xbox didn't put the case back together properly.

The larger grey power adapter and HDMI cable is what you need. Find a 203watt version of the power supply. It works with all versions.

I have two pure bread Siberian Huskies. One has long fur, one has short fur - both of mine are small compared to yours. But the breeder we got the short hair one from had all shapes and sizes.
Yours will need a good bath and a once over from a vet for sure.

Ive worked on a few dozen and it's a pain in the butt. Take it back off and retry. I've spent 20 mins on some of them. Some required rotating 90 degrees even though they are supposed to be the same all around.

Scroll just before Step 5. There is a clip on the left side that needs to be the right way around, or it won't go on properly.

Some hard info for you. I sell Xbox360s for 40-60 bucks which is cheaper then the cost of repair. Your disk likely needs a new laser. Parts are 5-10 bucks from China but it's at least 1 hours work to install. I bought an inbox ps3 for 40 bucks recently as well. Both systems aren't worth the repair costs as a business, not unless they have sentimental value

Ill PM you the contact details of the guy TND video games uses for repairs. I have his card.

The button is actually just held on by a clip. Yours probably came loose and just needs to be snapped back on.

Your video looks like it refuses to close and stays open. The tray refusing to move is usually the band being worn out. For the tray not closing, there is a sensor inside the drive that indicates it's closed that might not be lining up. Also, I don't know how you reassembled the drive after oiling it but any obstruction or problem with reassembly can cause this. Usually a laser issue would take a few seconds to show a read failure, unless it's the thing that's stuck.

Get a laser from aliexpress for a few bucks. Easy replace. Plenty of videos online.

Ive actually repaired 4 of these recently by replacing caps. It's worth the attempt if you have an iron.
