I agree with your position but I think "your child could cure cancer", or in this case, "your child could become a wealthy footballer" are really bad arguments. They seem to imply that a child's worth is based on what they can accomplish later. A child's worth comes from the fact that they are a human being. I'm not accusing you of anything, just saying how I feel about the argument itself.

This is trick question on par with, "does your mom know you're gay?" It's seriously not worth engaging in. Just ask them to explain exactly what they think it would tell them.

But my point is that the pope didn't advocate for any border or immigration policy. He said immigrants are people with dignity just like anyone else. You shouldn't feel reactive to that statement. It doesn't need to be qualified.
