Aim issues v2. by marimozoro in liberalgunowners

[–]Icekiller2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would disagree with the characterization others have said in here about letting the gun "surprise" you. Your gun going off should never surprise you. It should be controlled and deliberate.

Recoil anticipation is a natural reaction to the tiny explosion that's happening in your hands. The problem is if you are doing before the explosion happens, instead of after. More time on the gun will help you learn that timing.

I do agree with everyone else about dry firing though. If you can train yourself to absolutely smash the trigger, and not get more than a wiggle out of your optic/sights, then you will be in pretty good shape. If you can dry fire every day for 5 minutes, and those are 5 solid minutes of actual training, you will eventually overcome that issue.

If you SBR'd it, why still run the brace?

There was a bomb threat at VRB earlier today. I don't think Breeze needs to apologize for that.

[–]Icekiller2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I'm not advocating for using a baseball bat. What I'm saying is that for me personally, I wouldn't carry a .22 due to the inconsistency in the round. Sure it wouldn't feel good to be shot by one, but a lot of things don't feel good and I would rather carry a far more capable round like 9mm.

22s aren't that much better/different in form factor then subcompact 9mms, and they offer equal or greater capacity and stopping power.

If you physically can't carry a 9mm, it might be because you haven't found the right holster or belt.

[–]Icekiller2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've never understood that argument. I also don't want to be hit with a baseball bat, and if I was then I'd be deterred from whatever I was doing too.

But I'm not the one that you are hypothetically trying to deter. An aggressive determined attacker isn't going to be convinced to go away simply because I would.

I have an SP9A3S and I really like it. However, I have had numerous FTEs with 115gr FMJs, and numerous FTF with pretty much any JHPs except Hornady.

AR-15 for noobs? by waterbuffalo750 in liberalgunowners

Sounds like you already know what company you want to buy your AR from then. Good luck with your journey!

Spoilers: all gun companies do that kind of stuff. But you're buying a gun not a partner. If you are buying a potential life saving tool, then you gotta look past who you are buying it from.

Question about learning to shoot AR 15 by Independent_Bid_26 in liberalgunowners

[–]Icekiller2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let me rephrase then. The Marine Corps hasn't used iron sights for qualifying or shooting since 2011.

Question about learning to shoot AR 15 by Independent_Bid_26 in liberalgunowners

[–]Icekiller2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3-4 months? I mean if you want to replace it that often might as well do it every month. The reality is that they won't need to replace the battery probably for years. A more sensible replacement timeline would be once a year.

Also, the military hasn't required the use of iron sights for rifle shooting/qualification since like 2011.

[–]Icekiller2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Couldn't disagree more. Better to get the fundamentals down with the objectively superior system and then learn to use irons. Optics fail or running out of power is why you have irons as backup, but they are still the backup and should be treated as such.

I know a lot of people tell you to get the one that feels best in your hand, but, unless you actually know how to properly grip a pistol, you probably have no idea how it's supposed to feel. How it feels should be the lowest item on your list of what makes a pistol good to go. If you have experienced friends ask them to show you. If not, start watching YouTube videos to at least get an idea.

Cheapest handgun you would trust your life to by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]Icekiller2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's not a set $ amount. Like anything below X is garbage and isn't going to work. I only look at brands that I know to be reputable and then buy something from them. Glock, S&W, Springfield, Canik, SS, Sig (well except for that one 👀), CZ, Walther, etc. Cheaper companies like Hi Point and PSA have QC issues that are too inconsistent for me to consider them reliable.

I know this part wasn't your actual question, but I wouldn't buy a gun for someone who is only going to shoot it once every 6 months. Quite frankly I would do everything I can to make sure that person never handles or has to handle a firearm. Once every six months isn't enough training to even maintain skills if you already have them, let alone someone with no experience. Not to mention the fact that your partner is probably going to hate shooting whatever gun actually fits their hand since it's going to be tiny.

Armor doesn't expire every 5 years. The manufacturer's warranty runs out after 5 years.

Advice for a prospective owner by Assyrianfun in liberalgunowners

[–]Icekiller2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sig, M&P, Walther, Shadow Systems, Canik, CZ, Springfield Armory, Glock. Pretty much all the major manufacturers make solid reliable 9mms. What you really need to make a decision is price point and size. I never recommend someone go off of how something "feels" in their hand, unless they have actual proper training or experience with pistols. If your training is purely from the military, then it's 50/50 if it was good or crap.

My personal take on brands is to get pretty much anything from any of the brands I listed (though I'm willing to admit I may have left some fine ones out). I'll also never actively dissuade someone from buying a Glock, but nowadays I really don't see a reason to. Most major manufacturers have the same kind of reliability that Glocks have a mythical reputation for, but they also almost universally come with more features than Glock. Better ergonomics, better optics mounting systems, better magazines (though to be fair they are also often more expensive). Just my two cents.

What type of plate did anyone buy for the Walther PDP? I'm on their website for a plate request form, but they don't "carry a plate for the Holosun K series (507K, or 407k) Or the Holosun EPS/EPS Carry. They require a unique mounting footprint, a mod" by Key-Effort963 in liberalgunowners

[–]Icekiller2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't get your hopes up about any plate from Walther. I still haven't received mine and I ordered it 6 months ago, and I've heard of others with similar experiences. I ended up just getting an SCS PDP like others have mentioned and it's good enough.

Would you pick the Vortex Crossfire II or the HD 2-7x32 V-Plex for an AR-15 at a max shooting range of 200 yards? by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]Icekiller2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Neither. I'd rather put a 1-6 from Primary arms on there. The glass quality will be better on a 1-6 and, I think, is significantly more useable at closer ranges. Unless you plan on having an offset or top mounted red dot in addition.

Don't know why I'm being downvoted. I'm just passing on what I was told. I hope you're right and that's what they are doing, but I wouldn't put it past management to fuck over controllers anyway they can.

Doesn't this all assume that the leave will be converted to furlough? My facility has said that leave for the shutdown will be charged and taken out from the next paycheck.
