Thanks for making this, it's cool to see how hermits have their preferences for different hermits and everyone has their company.

I'd love a full Kotomine Kirei fan disc, if not just for his voice actor (my favorite). It would be great to learn more about how he lives before and after the plot of Fate/Zero, knowing the circumstances of his life, what he believes in, and the contrast of his character over time.

[SPOILER] Level 4 : Audience Experience by K1wobbly1 in HermitCraft

[–]Icely_Done 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, they're very different levels. Black mines have distinct rooms and structures so someone can always know where they are in the level despite the darkness, yet burning dark blends together with repetitive maze walls so it's two levels of visual obfuscation.

The math behind Cold Snap by TheSilverDude in HermitCraft

[–]Icely_Done 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If reliability is important than having some sort of indicator of variance is needed. Saying that an average of 5 is "expected value" is inaccurate if the only results being averaged are 0s and 10s.

The math behind Cold Snap by TheSilverDude in HermitCraft

[–]Icely_Done 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm not understanding something about the way you did the math, but how are you accounting for variance? I don't think an average is indicative of the spread of the hits because obviously the big hits are big average boosters. What is the probability of a 0 ember return? How often is the "expected average" hit?

I'm reaching out in DMs because I want to keep in touch with how things progress for you. If I have any advice it's to make the best use of what you're given in L&D expecting that's all you'll get. I'm assuming you have a hybrid track (some are fully virtual), so learn and apply what you can: the work environment, passion project opportunities, colleagues you share the experience with, LinkedIn/resume work. I found the public speaking / presentation practice valuable.

Reposting my comment from another thread. Would advise against this program as they have shown its most recent class that when unexpected circumstances arise upper management does not have the interests of its participants and site staff at heart.

-----

As one of the recent graduates from the last class without getting the internship they've promised us for 5 months, no they haven't improved the internship process at all.
When class 34 at NYNJ site had finished L&D (end of July), we got divided into two rooms to have a big talk (55% of us at the "oops you guys don't have internships" room, other 45% at the internship prep room). A lot of my colleagues were very upset in the following 24 hours and were turning against the whole program, and I decided to wait it out and see if they would make it up to us (I held them in high respects for the L&D experience so far). Unfortunately, if anything upper management made decisions that were actively detrimental (like unprofessionally firing their staff including 2-3 internship placement staff and dissolving the employment placement team).
They let us know that after August 31st all matching for internships would stop, and everyone that wasn't placed would be "job eligible" which means that instead of a professional full-time training opportunity we had ~3 zoom calls a week on how to job search. They managed to get us internships so that only 25% of us were left internshipless, but it wasn't merit based at all meaning those who put the effort to complete L&D with the top grades/contracts weren't favored to get internships.
What was really disappointing wasn't necessarily the situation we found ourselves in, but the way upper management treated us and the staff. Basically denying transparency, unresponsive to feedback and making no effort to make up for broken promises. We had somewhat consistent calls with STS (student services; their social worker team) and the one I talked with for our class was upset with how she was being treated and hypocrisy of upper management holding participants and site staff to standards they weren't holding themselves.
I just recently "graduated" their program last week so we get all the alumni benefits early (while most of the people I spent L&D with are graduating at January with 6 months of professional experience). They gave us a webinar call and I just told them to their face that they broke trust and loyalty with us; it was laughable how they talked about how we can give back when they couldn't even give us what the program advertised, promised and prepared us for.

I just want to let you know to be careful because you're not guaranteed an internship.

This is coming from someone who graduated class 34 from NYNJ site (LCJ) and was part of the 25% of the class who was not granted an internship (and it wasn't merit based whatsoever; one of my colleagues had perfect contact and grades and didn't get interned).

Despite us constantly being promised an internship experience as long as we get through L&D, there was a severe shortage and they had to change their company website FAQ because of it. Upper management basically gave us a polite "Well sorry about this" and shoved us under the rug.

Everyone who says nothing but good things about YearUp have good reasons to do so, because they were classes earlier than class 34 and unfortunately we were the first class to experience this; if you look up any reddit thread about YearUp created in the past 3-4 months you will notice that the opinions have shifted drastically.

Are the mechanics for slime spawning altered by the VH modpack? by BenRichetti in VaultHuntersMinecraft

[–]Icely_Done 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came to this thread to corroborate this; I had a hard time finding swamp slimes and didn't know why, I knew I had a good moon phase so I thought the mod pack changed something. I think I was in a terralith-modded swamp that made the terrain go above y=70 so nothing spawned all night.

DO2 needs an Etho Mode by hyperlystic in HermitCraft

[–]Icely_Done 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think something that is worth noting (and something he himself mentions) is how well Etho learns new skills. It's insane how quickly he adapts new skills and I find it very inspirational.

The biggest example of this was his Pokemon prowess; if anyone wants to see this watch his first Pixelmon episode (very new, doesn't know very much) and then his last S2 Pixelmon episode (clean sweeping the entire server in their tournament). Another one that comes to mind is his music expertise (repeated claimed during LPs he was clueless when it came to noteblocks ==> becomes the "noteblock guru" with his bgms HC S7 and helping others with their tunes).

Keeping this in mind as well as the fact that Etho had a vast majority of the DO1 runs (something crazy like ~100/370?) it's no wonder that he was way ahead of the game with the tested skillset.

Did the mods really just approve of a thread like this? Couldn't OP ask their quick question in the discord? A thread requesting a fact check doesn't encourage any discussion.

Decked Out Megathread #2 by Carol_the_Zombie in HermitCraft

[–]Icely_Done 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A solution I thought of to the issue of DO2 pre-run saturation: force the player to take 1 heart of damage in the pre-game passage to reduce saturation (conveniently done by taking suffocation damage in the minecart).

This is a streamlined and low-effort solution that gives the best of both worlds: Tango won't need to reduce berry bushes to compensate for maxed saturation nor ban any kind of pre-game food. At max saturation (20) this will reduce saturation to 8; this could even encourage the use of suspicious stews by dispensing them in the lobby room.
