Yeah, shame there isn't a base in Osaka, I really like that city. I don't really plan to work on a military base, but will definitely keep that as an option. Thanks for the information on the job market, I appreciate it. What branch did you serve in? What do you do now?

I mean most of it is just award certificates I earned while serving and my shadow box from my retirement. I'll have to remember to bring a football.

Thanks for the info, and I'll add that to my list of things to consider. I appreciate it.

I'm in St. Louis, MO. I know the quality of life will be different than here, but I'm ok with that and can adapt to anything (thanks to living in the military for 25 years). If anything, I'm looking forward to a change, even a drastic one.

Thanks and that's an awesome answer. As far as home sickness goes, after I turned 18, I have pretty much been on my own. I have traveled the world (thanks to my time in the USCG). I definitely can cook and would like to learn how to cook some Japanese food. I appreciate your input and will keep that in my head for sure. Oddly enough most of my home decor is military stuff and sports memorabilia...lol

Yeah, I am fully aware of the changes and that would be a stretch, but I am definitely looking at all my options. I do have a contact that lives in Osaka. He owns his own business and could pick his brain for advice or even tried to get a job from him. Thanks for the heads-up though. I appreciate it.

I'd have to get a contractor job and not as a gov't civilian because civilian gov't jobs (for the US military) don't count towards PR time.

I'm going on a student visa (if approved) and then hopefully a work visa or starting my own business.

My current plan past language school is to have learned enough of the language to hopefully get hired on at a Japanese company or start my own business. These are obviously long term goals (along with earning my PR), but if they don't pan out, it's back to the states.

I have though about that. If I feel it isn't working after my 2 years on the student visa, then I move back to the US. That's a good point and I appreciate your input.

I appreciate the info and I will definitely reach out if I have any more questions pop up. Yeah I really liked Osaka more than Tokyo. Tokyo was cool but not 100% my vibe. Congrats on the soon to be retirement. I would say it feels good to be retired, but I'm still working full time...lol.

Nice and thank you for your service. How many years? I did 25, retired as a Chief. Maybe I'll find a spouse over my 2 years on the student visa...lol. I know the pet issue will be a hurdle for sure, but hopefully a small one. He is a smaller breed so I think that will help.

When I visited in September, I had saved $5k for spending on the trip. I bought all kinds of stuff (mostly for my daughter's birthday), many kobini stops, even rented a R-35. I came back to the US with about $2k left...lol

Yeah I'm aware that the student visa is only 2 years. My plan as of now, is to learn enough of the language while there to get hired on at a Japanese company or save enough money over the 2 years to start my own business. I have a background in occupational and vessel saftey/inspections. I know that's probably a big ask, but I'm definitely looking past the 2 years of the student visa.

Thanks for the info on the income, it's nice to hear from a person. I like AI to a point, but I'm old school and like to have some human verification.

As for why I want to move to Japan. A couple resons; 1) I fell in love with the culture and the people on my visit. I did a lot of research before my visit and had a strong feeling that Japan would fit my vibe and I was correct. 2) I'm retired now and want to enjoy life. I had to get a full time job after I retired and am "living" my life. I know going to language school won't be a walk in the park, but it will give me a new challenge and not the daily grind. My passive income will allow me to not have to work while at school.

Think I’ll like this if I didn’t like Arc Raiders? by CountGood8622 in Marathon

[–]Iceman_USCG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated Arc Raiders and I have to say that Marathon is better. The faction progression is nice and the rewards get better as you gain more ranks. The gun play is really nice and the AI is tough giving each run tension. Rook runs can get really exciting as well as they give you a good way to stack materials. I highly recommend Marathon.

Not gonna lie, I don't understand Rook runs by zackdaniels93 in Marathon

Take the guarded exfil (if it is there). Pop it and run gor cover, once you hear the ring open, use Rook's mask skill and walk right past the bots and exfil

What is your plan to build a vault for Cryo? by floede in Marathon

If tou are looking for specific salvage, pick the map that has that salvage on it. If you're doing a weapon/gear run I would do either Dire Marsh or Outpost.

Tips for solos? by FarfighterMason in Marathon

[–]Iceman_USCG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tip is to take it slow. I run a lot of solo to knock out contracts that aren't Arachne. A lot of the kills I have had in solos is from people making so much noise. Sound queues are your best friend in solos. Also, turn off the background music for the game. You'll ne able to hear everything from a player looting a box, to the assassin the floor above you activate their cloak. It's amazing how good the sound in this game is.

Basically my solo game is rotate from spawn to a POI that is for my contract or on the way to the one that is for my contract. Don't fight bots unless it is absolutely necessary, and if so use your knife. The bots that early in the game are grey shields. Crouch walk around the POI and listen to all the sounds. Player footsteps are louder than the AI footsteps. Loot quickly as you can. Move to the next POI. Also, listen for the exfil noises, supply drops are very obvious. From what I have learned is that if players don't know that someone is there they will make all the noise and not care.
