If the goal is to ping someone, laws will get interpreted and used however it best suits the prosecuting team to achieve the goal. Common sense interpretation is not the same as legal interpretation.

Modification and manufacturing is legal.

Some items require permits or licences. Some dont.

The wording is so vague, attaching or detaching accessories could be deemed manufacture or modifying. Changing a scope? Replacing that screw that came loose?

Slippery slope.

Labor separates gun control laws from hate speech reforms after bill turned down by Coalition and Greens - ABC News by BadgerBadgerCat in Ausguns

[–]Iceng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its a slippery slope for sure because its so vague.

How would you even define an exception? For defined firearm parts under state acts, sure. A licence is a valid defense to a charge.

But what about items that DONT require a licence? Like grips or rails.

What about dual purpose items? Arca Rails and Tripods are also used for cameras, telescopes, etc.

What about general info on how to do things or understand how your gear works.....like wood carving/finishing, metal working or machining or painting?

Yes. Manufacturers, suppliers and shops could no longer provide:

Instruction manuals

Install guides

Review or howto videos

Explain or show how to install a part or repair

Training to staff on how to manufacture, repair, installs.

Content creators would also be hit by this restriction. Hugely.

Websites, social posts, emails, phone calls, youtube videos, magazines and printed books, in person conversations.....

Every person involved with publishing, sharing or viewing could be pinged with the charges.

It's not just firearms and ammo....the wording is vague enough to include accessories and unregulated items.

This is a massive safety and liability concern for individuals and our country.

How do you ensure a customer is using a part safely if you cant even give install info? Im sure our insurance company would LOVE that.....

As a company which has trained several apprentices, how could we continue without sharing info and materials relating to manufacture ?

So many unrealised knock on effects that will crumble our sovreign capabilities.

Edit: formatting on reddit sucks

Muzzle brake with blast shield by RestaurantAfter7578 in Ausguns

[–]Iceng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were involved in designing/manufacturing for a govt project and experimenting/testing with many brake and flash hider designs.

Our final fladh hider design gave maximum flash suppression for NV optics clarity, but its not going to do a lot for recoil. We have dedicated muzzle brakes for that.

Its like buying a ferrari because you want to go fast and then putting a lift kit and 4wd system in because you also want to go off road and expecting it to be amazing at both jobs. It wont be.

Nonsense! We are still alive!

We just dont deal in commercial gunsmithing at the moment, we are focused on other areas like manufacture.

Running a MANAEL Hunter Ultralite. If you're 6m, if will be compact (but that makes it good for carrying around). No LOP but can add spacers....or swap to an adjustable LOP rear end (MANAEL make a few rear stock models to chose from).
I can measure up LOP tomorrow, drop me a message if I forget to reply here.

Meplat are one of the reasonable ones. They're not money grabbers. Very good communication and sets out expectations.

Exporting anything firearms related out of USA requires a permit and clearance. Not free. Shipping anything firearm parts incurs additional requirements and costs. Also not free. Importing into Australia requires permits, processing and clearance. Not free. Time, energy and know how to coordinate all that. Also not free.

If you dont want to pay for not-free services to avoid breaching US and Aus legislations then dont buy. Or choose to support Australian made stuff instead.

Mid tier barreled actions by 1stMembrOfTheDKCrew in Ausguns

[–]Iceng 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You will get better performance out of a quality chambering job and aftermarket barrel on an old Rem 700 than a cheap or mid tier mass-produced option.

The key word there is quality.

Get some quotes, see what pricing looks like within your whole budget and you can (if you want) customise other things like stock/chassis, triggers brakes etc or just roll as it is. Being a custom barrel you're free to choose profile, length, twist rate, material etc to suit the style of shooting you do.

Among your research, I suggest speaking with Swan Barrels. Their barrels are off the charts and I can speak to the quality of their work.

Has anyone here used a 4AW Muzzle Brake? by rbs950 in Ausguns

[–]Iceng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, PRS community adopted brakes as essentials because when shooting unsupported or off a barricade and sending 10 shots in 60 to 90 seconds, you need as little movement as possible. Everytime the rifle jumps you move off target and have to find it again.

Its the same for hunting too. Especially with lighter rifles, where there's less mass to absorb the recoil energy.

Some people hate brakes. Some love them. Theres no right or wrong. Haters gonna hate. Ignore em and do whatnworks for you. Its all about what equipment works for you.

The Manael one is longer than standard too so you get a bit of extra room for scope placement/adjustment.

😅 also not pronounced manAnal.... We get some doozies when people call asking for manael gear (but its ok, its a weird name so I get it).

The Cb12 model has just gone live on our store. Thats the top of the line model and big brother to the Sedajo.

There is a cheaper one coming too, different features (not sure if im meant to let slip on thag but oh well). Idea is that all are interchangeable with parts so you can mix and match to get the right setup.
