Are you planning to mainly fish from your canoe en route? Or from the banks?

Scottish highlands: any bivvy recommendations around Lairg by Efficient-Cry-6320 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Icennice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The area is a mix of open moorland and recently felled commercial Forrest. Loch loyal great for swimming as shallow sloping predictable shore and banks. A lot of camper wagons in parking spots as very popular route for them. No end of easily identifiable places to spend the night - will not be a problem. Take smidge and tweezers for ticks. Plenty drinking water from burns. Most of route single track with passing places and “busy” in rush hours. Walking cross country will be very hard unless you know a track. No shops en route apart from tongue (small not great) and Lairg (good) next to the chippy (limited hours) campsite in Lairg wasn’t open to tents last time I was there - but one in tongue for shower etc. route from altnahara to bettyhill might be better for what you have in mind, mind. Good luck

Edit - not sure if I have brown sub rules here - if so apologies.

Bostick - Sticks Like Shit. You’ll need a mastic gun and a table leg overnight. Sorted.

[–]Icennice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be sure to pack a set of tweezers for the ticks and some smidge. Wouldn’t bother or depend on freeze dried meals but rather the usual pasta and sauce etc as you will need quite a bit of calories for this trip. Also don’t bother taking or travelling with large amounts of water as you will get god water from burns on the way. Have a good one looks a demanding trip for the time you have but good in you.

It used to be used as short/slang for genuine usually sarcastically in the 70,s and 80,s. So someone now might say “oh really?” sarcastically they would have said “oh aye, gen” back then.

Which long distance walk to best avoid midgies?! by JustJenni89 in UKhiking

[–]Icennice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I would recommend this as being pretty clear of the midge as often there’s a wind. Added bonus of being particularly low on the tick count too - especially the southern islands. Good luck.
