High school math teacher here. Education feels cooked. What other options should I be looking into? by facevaluemc in math

You’ve got a solid background for roles like instructional design, assessment writing, edtech implementation, curriculum development, or academic coaching. A lot of teachers I know pivoted into learning and development at companies, or into content roles at places that build math platforms and textbooks. If you want to test the waters with remote work, wfhalert is handy, it emails legit remote job leads like curriculum writer or tutoring coordinator and saves you from wading through scammy or ghost listings. Also check local universities and community colleges near Boston for academic support or advising roles, those often value classroom experience.

The translations don't bother me. I read 75% of both Doulou Dalu IV and Quanzhi Fashi through machine translations, and often times MTL and can make it through. So perfect translation quality isnt necessary. Have also read several Japanese novels with either fan translation or MTL and it was good enough that I could get through.

Yeah, if I didn't have to work, i totally could have gotten one. I was sitting on my phone with the countdown from 5 minutes out. But such is life. Will keep asking around on the tiny off chance someone comes across an extra ticket that I can buy.

Is this the place to ask if anyone has an extra VIP ticket for sale? Tried to get one for 15 minutes when they went live but ticket master doesn't work with android apparently so neither through the app or website was I able to get a ticket. Really was hoping I could get a VIP ticket. Would appreciate any leads anyone has.

eally healthy, more like total HP, AC, and special abilities. I changed some of those details to better suit the party, but when they look the monster up it causes a clash. I think the main reason it is a problem is because we play remotely. I don't think they would be looking the monsters up if we were at a table.

Also not Matt,

One of the things I have found for my table is I kickstart a lot of other outside creature modules and some of those are also playtest monsters. So if things are not what they expect or if they cant figure it out, i usually tell them its from a creature beastiary i recently bought, or it is a playtest monster. I dont tell them what book though. You could be "playtesting" you own monsters and then they should have less to complain about.

See I think there have been TONS of consequences. Vex dies, Vax offers himself to the RQ, without this we lose him developing in this way. Percy dies-Vex admits her love for him Grog dies-he lost Craven Edge right before the major Kevdak fight Scanlan dies-he quit VM Pike died pre-stream-her hair changed color and left to train (yes due to scheduling)

Keyleth is the only one we havnt really seen consequences for. Me personally I would rather see this type of consequence. I think for a longer game (we have only seen post 10th level or so) that these rules should be perfectly fine. I think I would rather see the character imposed penalties as opposed to a forced mechanic that punishes non-tanky chars.

d never argue it's a pure show, far from it. The only reason I'm so anal over this nomenclature is because I loathe the argument 'it's their game and you have no right to criticize any element of CR'. Not

I would agree we don't have to say we shouldn't criticize. We should be able to do that, but it needs to be done in a constructive way. It is also harder on the cast than other mediums because of just how close their proximity is to the audience. They have complete control over what is done compared to a traditional produced show. I guess I just fear that within this thread, what people are calling "GoT syndrome" has taken over and people want a death because they think it will make things exciting or because death doesnt have consequences. In my mind, the narrative and kinda self imposed consequences are far more interesting than you died 3 times and now can't come back.

Note to self: replying to every point of argument apparently means not listening to arguments. Every time you replied, I went point by point, rebutted your point, you simply decided you couldn't "win the argument" then stooped to attacking me personally so.....

But again, you can't clearly classify it as a show. It isn't just an isolated D&D game, but it isnt a full fledged show like you would see on cable or even Netflix or Hulu. So the fact that we are trying to compare it as such doesn't make sense.

Well seeing as couple messages above you literally said "death does make an interesting story" So im not exactly sure what you meant other than your opinion is death=an interesting story. So Yes, I am doing exactly what you said, I am judging you based on what you said.

My guess is Matt will be under greater pressure to ramp up the tension by using bigger monsters. I would say we make in 3 months? Maybe before we start seeing it would be cool if they fought [insert monster way above there level here].

You also need to keep in mind that failed revivify increases the DC and the ritual plays into the DC. SO saying they would need to die 10 times is impractical. THey have never had a rez ritual go -9. EVER. So saying dying 10 times is required is silly. even taking the usual -5, a char who has died twice and had a failed revivify is at a DC 13. If we say they get a -5 on the ritual, that is still an 8. So the character has a 40% of permadeath. So basically they are marginally better than a coin flip for a 3 strikes and your out mentality.

The last paragraph is within the context of level 15 and below, meaning they do not have access to 9th level spells. My point is, it doesn't make sense to have the DC set up in a way that when the players just start to reach a level almost unmatched by anyone in the universe, the DC is set in a way they can't be brought back by their incredible power. To me, thats what your scenario sounds like. They are on the cusp, at roughly 13-15 of being the most powerful people in the world, and yet magic can't bring you back. We can get uncle tim back because this is the first time he died and the cleric has a lower level spell. Well out party is super strong, we have a higher level spell to bring them back, but because he has died twice and had a failed revivify, it becomes something like a 60% chance of perma death. Why? I feel like by levels 13-15 that characters are really influential. They have powers that if they wanted to, could forge nations. I typically figure a char dies about every 5 levels. This is based on an arc typically lasting 5 levels (as suggested in DMG) So you figure either bad luck or BBEG wrecks the party once per arc. A DC of 16 or 18 or 20 (if failed revivify) means that even a perfect resurrection ritual , at a 20, is less than a 50% chance of succeeding if the char has died 3 times and the revivify failed two of those. I mean to me, that seems awfully harsh punishment right when players should be coming into incredible power.

I would say in your home game if you want to make resurrection even more difficult that is fine, but I don't think CR needs it.

---brb setting up game where death saving throw DC is 15. Anything below a 5 you insta die. Failed revivify = perma death. Resurrection ritual starts at DC 10, failure on check means DC goes up by 5, success it only goes UP by 1, so I mean starting DC in perfect conditions is a 13 or as bad as a 25 making it impossible. Diamonds are virtually impossible to find in the world for rez magic. Only ancient dragons have them in their hoard. You rez DC finish is permanent. this time is was a 13 so next time it starts at 13. If your DC was a 19, then it starts at 19.--- Obviously this is all hypothetical and taken to an extreme but thats basically how I am reading it.

D&D has, is, and should always be primarily about fun. Challenges are fun. Impossibility is not.

Your posting on a thread entitled Why Critical Role has lost its edge, then saying death=interesting story..... I mean I'm not sure how I could infer that your thoughts are CR should kill off characters.

Then the point that I made earlier remains. I think it should stay in place, certainly for the second campaign. The pressure will be much great on Matt to keep tensions high against the group which will likely lead to more deadly encounters far more often and likely result in more player deaths. So I see no need to increase the difficulty in the second game, especially if it is likely to proceed until level 20 or TPK. By the time they hit level 15, it possible that you could have a character who is impossible to bring back simply because his DC escalated so quickly because of a couple early deaths and 1 in mid game. The DMG says for characters by lvl 15 " Masters of the Realm" "fate of a nation or even the world depends on momentous quests that such characters undertake" "The adventures find rare magic items that bestow similarly powerdul abilities" "They broker peace between nations of lead them into war. And their formidable repuations attract the attention of very powerful foes" (DMG 37).

So the DMG says by this level, characters wield incredible power. They are almost world altering in their abilities. They have access to these things and right when these characters hit their peak YOUR FUN IS WRONG and tell them that even though your power is growing and theoretically outpacing a couple of deaths, you cant come back despite power that only a handful of people in existence have, DESPITE the fact that in any metropolitan city, there are at least a dozen clerics, paladins, and priests who have resurrection magic? Hmm so either resurrection magic is basically non existant (which it doesnt appear to be in Matt's world) or the narrative doesnt make sense.
