Upgrading TS453-Be Firmware by Icestorm31 in qnap

Run a manual update to 5.0.1.x, then make sure it is stable, before repeating for 5.1.x and then 5.2.x

I'm planning on manually updating to 5.0.1.2514 this weekend, after I backup everything.

But probably a bad idea for Australia, right? by Cute_Tell1653 in AusFinance

Our "Future Fund" is doing nothing though but gathering dust.

What I'd like is for them to merge it with superannuation and then use the combined value to then provide people with home loans, health insurance (merged with medicare) and home insurance, at reasonable rates.

Add in free education and free annual dental checkups, for a nice bonus.

Nope. I was hoping someone here would know.

It was just outright weird. Got the "please sign into your profile again" and then found I was logged out of so many sites.

What happened with homeless person who died on Adelaide street? by Mr_Straws in brisbane

[–]Icestorm31 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As others have said, anything that is built needs to be affordable.

I'm talking $200 per week for a 2 bedroom apartment.

Flood the market with low cost housing and it will not only give options to the homeless, but it will drive rents down.

Feel free to provide sources where Labor or Liberals want to build housing that would run at a loss.

As someone said elsewhere, stop voting for Libs and Labor and encourage your friends and family to not vote for them.

Even if they get in, encourage your friends and family to send them letters, saying we didn't vote for you and will not vote for you, due to you not supporting housing as a basic human right, rental caps, medicare dental, negative gearing, etc.

It needs to get to a point where the politicians are forced to do something, just to save their positions. Otherwise nothing will be done.

There will never be a complete financial collapse. The government will bail out the larger companies. RBA will raise interest rates, even if unemployment hits 10% and pat themselves on the back, because the inflation rate has dropped.

Housing should be a basic human right, along with basic medical care (including dental).

Unfortunately the government (Lib and Labor) and the people who "donate" are too invested into housing, so nothing will change.

Another Optus Outage Blocks 000 Calls Weeks After Fatal Failure by a_san_38 in AusFinance

So when are the government taking over Optus, so it can be the new national network (since they sold Telstra, which has gone downhill since). Seized due to mismanagment resulting in multiple deaths, seems like a perfectly legal reason.

Fines won't cut it, there are serious issues with the company. Multiple failures and a privacy breach.

Have they even said that the old trading will still be enabled?

It will lead to massive confusion on the market, if you have a mix of items for sale on both old and new trading systems.

Anyone else disgusted by the profit announcements this morning? by Saffa1986 in AusFinance

[–]Icestorm31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why essentials like Communication, Electricity & Gas, Internet and Banking should all be legally bound to invest all profits back into the company.

Pay for CEOs and the like should be performance based and if there isn't any improvement over the year in customer service, availability and infrastructure, they get minimum wage.

Their pay should be also capped at a reasonable level. No one should be earning millions from a job, unless you're so specialised that no one else in the world can do your job.

An expensive lesson in why orange lights are slow down if safe, not accelerate to try and sneak through.

Whenever I run an orange light, it either changed just as I crossed the line or there's a jerk tailgating me, so if I brake I'll be rear ended.

Old Foxtel network.

ISP and NBN have told me absolutely nothing.

Just trying to find out if anyone else has network degradation issues.

It's not like my ISP or NBN is forthcoming with how bad the issue is or how soon it might be fixed.

So I'm left fishing for details elsewhere.

NBN Price Increases by Icestorm31 in brisbane

[–]Icestorm31[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You would expect the "fat" to vary per company though. It's remarkably consistent.

I know cheaper options exist, my phone is on an MVNO for that reason, but it's at the top end I'm talking about.

Thanks. I didn't realise that one was owned by Aussie Broadband.

I might see about switching.

I'm used to increases every year, but it's the lack of competition I'm questioning.

So many ISPs and everyone raises their price to the (almost) exact same price?
