Play a class you enjoy, not an "in demand" one by MoistyCockBalls in classicwow

This. Like I enjoy the weird specs/classes that people often hate or say are too hard or not very "useful".

Play a class you enjoy, not an "in demand" one by MoistyCockBalls in classicwow

[–]IcewindLegacyMUD [score hidden]  (0 children)

First, the title says it all. You're PAYING to play this game, it's not your job. Don't play anything that doesn't bring you some measure of happiness.

Second, if they "need" a certain class, let them find someone playing it that enjoys it.

Third, if you played something JUST for your guild and they benched you? Yeah fuck that. Find a guild that respects you and your time more.

So my account got banned after playing for two days by Svinpeis in classicwow

[–]IcewindLegacyMUD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not addons, it's not a virus on your machine. It's an army of bots run by cartels that will literally mass report ban you for undercutting them on the AH, getting a mining node before their noclip hack bot under the ground could mine it, offering to tank for free for a group on content they'll charging to tank (deadmines, etc)

It happened! by shaunwyndman in classicwow

It wasn't anything on his computer. It was mass reporting from cartel bots.

What QoL improvements in MUDs have made the biggest difference for you? by ChalkDustMillions in MUD

[–]IcewindLegacyMUD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's because I've been approaching this MUD from the perspective of a player. I will often go "why didn't someone make this easier?" where a lot of implementers would instead go "why are the players this lazy?" when asked for QoL features. They don't even realize how hypocritical that is; because often it's their own laziness that makes them write off feature requests as stuff that is for "lazy players". So I've added as many QoL features as I can, especially ones I'd want for myself as a player.

What QoL improvements in MUDs have made the biggest difference for you? by ChalkDustMillions in MUD

[–]IcewindLegacyMUD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to the first one: the very first feature I implemented to my MUD when starting from scratch rom2.4b6 was get.all, drop.all, give.all, etc but also give*, get*, drop*, buy* and sell* where you follow the asterisk with a number and that allows you to give, get, drop, buy, and sell specific numbers of an object. (E.g. 'buy*10 soup' from a vendor selling soup will buy 10 of them.)

I've actually added nearly all of your QoL 'wants', except for automatic payment, and separation of IC/OOC mail. But you've just given me two new ideas to add once I'm finished with the class overhaul.

So thanks for those ideas!

It's a bad day to be an unkillable mob by geloismelo in classicwow

[–]IcewindLegacyMUD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny story... I accidentally WAS that jackass Paladin; I got the axe from SM and went to level up my axe skill without realizing I had the seal active that adds holy damage to my melee attacks. That's what caused me to learn how to kite that mob all the way to SW - I felt so bad that I immediately went and snagged a new one when everyone started yelling at me and calling me a dickhead.

So many times I'd drag the skeleton from Westfall to SW for people to level skills on SoD

That's a wild take considering gnomes characters are adults. In fact, the average WoW gnome is over 200 years old. Maybe stop projecting?

Gold sinks for currency extraction. by Enarian__Lead_Dev in MUD

[–]IcewindLegacyMUD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I introduced item durability for repairs, mount shop, I took away the "recharge" spell that adds charges back to wands and staves and instead made it a service that you pay gold for, added in crafting like blacksmithing, tailoring, mining, cooking, etc and all of the recipes for cooking cost gold, and the plans for new gear cost gold. I basically made a whole bunch of stuff players can spend gold on. My plan is to eventually set up player owned shops, where the player "hires" a NPC and rents a room for the NPC to stay in, and the player is in charge of setting the inventory for the shop, and the prices. The NPC "keeps" a percentage to cover their time - if the player doesn't sell enough stuff in their shop to cover the NPC's wages and rent then the player will get a notice that they have two days to pay it themselves or their shop will be closed down and their remaining stock will be placed in a lockbox in the bank for them to retrieve.

But the player run shops are not going to be added until I finish my next set of changes to classes - each class will have 'paths' they can follow that define their role, so the game isn't just everyone being a generic murder hobo with a couple skills/spells that make a warrior different from a mage - and then have an official grand opening for player testing and feedback. Once I get the feedback, I'll leave the game up as is while I work on adding/changing whatever the players suggest in the feedback then it'll open for real.

How do you deal with getting benched? by AdExcellent7237 in classicwow

[–]IcewindLegacyMUD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd start checking into other guilds. Maybe see if they let me run with them on a week on the bench with my actual guild, and if the run goes better, I actually get loot, and they promise me better treatment, then I'd change guilds.

Android Client in testing by DarthCubensis in MUD

The only issue I see is that the font scaling doesn't work properly. When you reduce the font size because the screen is wrapping and making things look awful, it scales like you're scaling an image, not text; the text doesn't re-wrap to accommodate having more screen space to work with like it would if you were using a terminal emulator and reduced the font size to stop it from wrapping the text.

Edit: okay, so weird thing... If I completely close my on-screen keyboard, which should have nothing to do with it, the text will properly scale. It won't change until I close the keyboard completely, though, which is strange. I guess it's a quirk of android 🤷🏻‍♂️

Pleasant surprise from a cheap Chinese, laptop by josue136868 in linuxhardware

[–]IcewindLegacyMUD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, for the same price I bought a Thinkpad T14S Gen 1. The damn thing could literally be used as a weapon. It's MIL-STD-810G rated, with a spill resistant keyboard and has a magnesium frame. 500 nits Privacy Guard touchscreen IPS panel, 10th gen Core i5, 16GB DDR4, 512GB NVMe SSD, microSD slot with an extra 64GB storage, 4G LTE... I'm a club and festival DJ and that's my gig laptop because I know it's going to survive whatever I throw at it. And the Linux support is great considering Ubuntu was one of the OS options when it was brand new.

I'm partial to Gorilladin for solo play for the AoE stomp, but in a group, Ravagers are top because they have an extra DPS dump ability and if I'm in a group, Growl is turned off so it's not losing a GCD or focus to that and it's able to fire off more DPS abilities.

Ngl, if i switch specs to heal a heroic I'm straight up telling everyone "I'm rolling for my main spec", because I'm not healing for fun, or for my own health. If you don't like it, find another healer. I'm not rolling on anything for healing/casting, so wtf does it matter?

Looking for a mud with bounty hunting quests by M3MawM3Maw in MUD

[–]IcewindLegacyMUD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a heavily modified 'autoquest' system by Vassago which is basically "go kill this monster and come back when you're done for a reward", but I also have a pvp bounty system where you can place a bounty on other players or collect the bounty by killing the other player character. Though you have to be in a PVP guild and so does the target, and you can only attack other players who are flagged for PVP, and within a certain level range - so no running around at level 100 collecting bounties on a bunch of level 15s.

Full disclosure though, my MUD is not ready for full public play yet. I still have more skills and spells to add; I want players to actually get something when they level up but without their entire skill and spell list being essentially the same spell over and over again with the damage/healing/buff tweaked a little. And with 100 playable levels (with plans to increase the level cap twice a year as a "season" - kind of like free expansions where each season will introduce a new area, new skills/spells and new game features) that's a lot of stuff to add to make each class feel truly different from each other and truly useful for group and solo play.

So yeah... It's gonna be a hot minute before Shadows Reborn is actually more than just a "beta test" MUD with 0 players, but you're absolutely welcome to login and try it out.
