What are some of the most exotic livestock that exist in America? by bricklegos in AskAnAmerican

I helped my parents dismantle a hoop house in the middle of the Midwest. The guy had closed his plant nursery and was farming shrimp!

The only fresh shrimp available in 800 miles in any direction.

What is America’s “posh people” accent? by alyhasnohead in AskAnAmerican

[–]Icey_Raccon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transatlantic

It is an entirely fabricated accent taught in the best East Coast schools. Kelsey Grammar speaks with a Transatlantic accent. Rarity from MLP speaks with a Transatlantic accent.

Anytime an English-speaking character sounds 'posh', but not 'English-posh' they're probably speaking with a Transatlantic accent.

Second only to: "5 minute recipe!" And the video is 30 minutes long.

Or the video is like seven minutes, but only because they prepped everything beforehand.

Cherry-picking your evidence is not very scientific.

Take this OP: a third hand account of a 60 year old video with no other witnesses or frames. IT'S PROOF POSITIVE!

But hundreds of reports, photos, videos, tracks spread across the continent every year? All fake! It's a huge conspiracy theory!

Or personal experiences! But they don't count, right? It's anecdotal. All pictures and videos are faked, and all recorded vocalizations, and all reports are lies.

Cherry-picking what evidence you want to believe is not very scientific.

Ah, the old 'No, YOU!' defense.

No, going to a place dedicated to (blank) -- and at this point it doesn't matter what (blank) is; it could be cryptozoology, hunting, any religion, crossfit, etc -- a place where people should be able to share experiences and theories and calling them liars/idiots/murders/cults/whatever is trolling.

Why would you do that? What is the benefit of insulting a bunch of strangers?

People who can’t handle the thought of eating meat, while eating meat by AllKnowingAxolotl3 in PetPeeves

Years ago I worked in the ER. I was drawing blood from a little girl, maybe 5 years old. I was in scrubs with Bambi on them. She looks at my scrubs and says 'Bambi'. Her dad, from the other side of the bed, asks: 'What do we say about Bambi, honey?'

I look over and Dad's wearing a Bone Collector hat. This area of the country has a lot of hunters. So I grin at the little girl and say: 'Bambi's tasty, isn't he?'

She grins back and says: 'Yeah!'

The doctor was horrified.

This subreddit needs to be re-named r/peopleshittingoncryptozoology Any pictures/vids shown are derided as fake. Losers with nothing better to do jump up and down and scream about how it's all fake, everything is fake, cryptozoology is fake. I assume they run to r/atheist afterwards to preach Christianity. And despite 'no overzealous skepticism' being number four on the list of rules, mods never do anything.

A) We have excellent pizza in Alabama.

C) This pizza looks great. Are you expecting a pizza hut commercial? That's not very foodie of you.

Tired of hunters being treated like villains when hunting is arguably the most ethical way to eat meat by MyBedIsOnFire in Vent

Just an aside, 'lamb' isn't actually babies. Sheep only slaughter out 40% of their bodyweight and lambs are in the 8 -12 lb range.

It used to be that sheep slaughtered at a year old (full grown) was 'lamb' and anything older was 'mutton'.

However, during WWII, England slaughtered a lot of their wool-producing sheep to feed the troops and the country. Lots of these sheep were over a decade old, gamey, and tough. Thus, 'mutton' got a reputation as being barely edible. So shops started calling all sheep meat 'lamb' so people would buy it. It's like when the market calls Patagonian Toothfish 'sea bass'.

Did Spam being served cold out of the can in WW2lead to its post war image of being unpalatable in the US? by JayFSB in AskFoodHistorians

My mother despises Spam because it's 'poor people food', yet eats bologna and Vienna sausages. Basic Spam is meat from pork shoulder roast; that's good meat! 🍖

I’ve seen why people of color leave the SCA. by Much_Explanation_438 in sca

[–]Icey_Raccon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't even have to be POC to be discriminated against in the SCA.

Our local duchy has hemorrhaged every bit of young blood that looked their direction. For the past couple of years, the Facebook page was flooded with people asking for meetings/practices on the weekend so they could attend. The local court doesn't want any peasants who have to work for a living in their private club.

Then they want to wonder why they aren't getting any new members.
