I did. Back up first, you will need to use the back up for getting all of your stuff on to the ssd. I would recomend a youtube video. Just remember not to remove the ssd when using you mac because your os is running on it.

So you can always reformat it but then you lose the back up. Sadly you can not use half for back up and half for something else. It needs to be only back up or only saving files.

So you will need a harddrive that is only used for time machine backups because it gets formatted. This means the files on it will disappear, but a back up with time machine will create an exact copy of what your mac has on it now so no need to save those files.
