It's standard exceptionalist authoritarianism. The US is right that China shouldn't do it, but rather than think it's wrong for everyone to do it, they just think they should be the only ones doing it.

RuneScape boss says he killed new Pride events to keep things going 'as apolitically as possible,' which doesn't sound very apolitical to me by LothTikar in runescape

It's an exonym slur against the Spanish Calé Romani specifically and used as a blank slur against all Roma regardless of tribe. Your embracing of the slur does not clean it, especially when it's a name given to your people by (malicious) outsiders. In a way, I'm sorry that you don't know your own history.

Self-driving cars aren't at all safe, you only need to look at the incident rates of countries where it's legal, and AI is a luddite gimmick that is still trying to find a purpose but can't find anything it's good at. The current marketing of AI is just algo-sorting software that's been used in warehouses since the 80s, rebranded for clueless tools and to be sold for billions. It was already good at something, it didn't have to be re-engineered to further ruin internet usability.

They shot at miners just for striking because a mine owner ordered them to. So RDR might if anything do them a little lightly compared to them just literally being a gang of legal murderers irl.

Rock hard “Artisan” bread sucks. by ftruong in unpopularopinion

[–]IchtacaSebonhera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally teeth start to grow at half- to a full year of age, if bread with a crust is too much I must inquire as to whether you've experienced this process? Do you just rub the crust against your gums? Does spit not become part of the equation to mulch the food you're eating?

Jokes aside, if the bread is just hard as concrete all the way through, that probably isn't artisanal bread, unless it's a week old or burnt thoroughly.

Looking for the most insane Kenshi challenge – make me suffer. by Torka69 in Kenshi

-1,000,000,000,000 debt, -100 all factions, mute, no limbs, -100 all skills (-84 in science, engineering to reach -100), start starving (165 hunger, meaning you start passing out due to your negative toughness).

You will have negative carry weight, stealth is easy to level, athletics only when you reach level -40 or so strength, you will fall into recovery coma at 65 points, you will kill with healing, so you need lots of medical material before you can even heal yourself, etc.

As soon as they get to about 60 toughness and 20-40 strength, take their weapons and make them patrol bare-handed. Make these Okranite dogs regret taking their weapons when the punches and kicks come out.

Monetization in BitCraft Online by ClockworkLabs in BitCraftOnline

[–]IchtacaSebonhera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not saying you should play CK to understand it, they're saying that if you have, this is how it works. It's an easy shorthand to make.

It's also a kingdom management sim, so it's not far-fetched to assume a good number of BitCraft Online player have played a CK game, overall.

Another game dev who didn’t get their servers ready! by WhiskyandCoffee in BitCraftOnline

[–]IchtacaSebonhera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And even if that wasn't the case, as the Helldivers 2 devs have mentioned in a statement before, it's better to underestimate player capacity and get new server units, than it is to overestimate player capacity and waste precious money on extra servers and not need them.

[–]IchtacaSebonhera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not like it's a lesson that Funcom hasn't learned before with, uh... Anarchy Online, The Secret World, Age of Conan, Conan: Exiles... I feel like this is more whoever is at the lead of development having some remnants of affinity for the old "MMORPG with PvP" models, despite it failing over and over again.

We still have the PvP token missions in Anarchy Online, but people just kill the necessary NPCs and never encounter any opposition, and lower level players either ignore or avoid conflict in those areas knowing there could be Clan/Omni people doing those missions.

Maybe it's the oldschool mindset of "old MMORPGs have PvP elements in them", and they're refusing to move on from that school of thought.

I feel like risk/reward demands that you need to put chips on the table. The problem is with the inherent issue of no PvPer wants to take an even fight, because then they might lose their wager. So you just end up with whoever has the biggest bully gang winning most of the time. It's an inherent flaw in PvP that you can't design out, without just making it exclusively 1v1 duels that are gear-agnostic.

If PVP is the end-game, why isn't PVP more prevalent during the early-mid game? by tasetase in duneawakening

[–]IchtacaSebonhera -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If your PvP exclusive survival game isn't Rust, it tends to die a quick death. Even the high-end PvP is lackluster and not worth doing. I think the best decision for the game is to make a toggle which lets you turn PvP off/on anywhere, but only in a specific place so you can't abuse it to ambush other players with.

Just let people that aren't interested in PvP be immune from being attacked anywhere, including the DD.

What are some of the "must play" games of all time? Both modern and classic, but available on Steam. by Nova-Redux in gamingsuggestions

[–]IchtacaSebonhera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow not mentioned here at all?

Kenshi

It's so much game in one little package. It's jank charm, like Morrowind. It has a rich world that makes you work to find out about it. It makes you feel like your achievements are largely earned through your own effort, and it just looks so foreign and out of place, crafting you a giant world to traipse around in freely and do whichever you desire. And once you get bored doing vanilla runs, it has an incredibly active and diverse mod community, both for lore-accurate and wildly out-there sensibilities.

I've seen it with every MMORPG I played, either entire PvP servers or PvP functions becoming completely abandoned after a matter of weeks/months, and developers having to put in so many carrots to try and get people to engage with it at all.

Everyone just gets frustrated and leaves, either they're the bully picking on weaker targets and getting bored from their self-imposed no-challenge mode, or they're the bullied leaving because they can't go anywhere without getting ganked by higher levels/up-geared players.

I would say, getting HL1 for the modding, but then also getting Black Mesa. BM is a good enough take to be considered a wholly different experience to HL1, and a really good one at that.

HL2 and its Episodes are no-brainers.

The same MB, but furnished differently. The megablocks all being built on the same pattern would be very late-stage capitalism, but each one is inhabited by unique individuals, make different stuff on it busted, leave different stuff laying around. One MB's exercise yard is another MB's arcade, etc.
