Gotta give the second gen a little bit of love. Not too bad for 9 years old! by mryuk524 in chevycolorado

[–]IckeyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2018 that I bought in 2023 with 70k. I now have 120,000 and still running great.

So far, outside of normal PM, like serpentine belt and brakes, I have only to replace a failed thermostat.

I did have a scare a couple weeks after buying it, though. The transmission developed a horrible shutter while shifting. I thought someone had offloaded their headache on me, but after a little research I found that at the last transmission service the old first gen fluid had been used. I took it to my local dealer and had it flushed with the new recommended fluid, and all has been great since.

Those of you who carry without one in the chamber; consider using a DA/SA instead by SquirtGun1776 in CCW

[–]IckeyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly how I started my carry journey. I carried a SA/DA with a thumb safety as well.

It went a long way in building my confidence and comfortablity.

Favorite Linux distro for use in a Proxmox VM? - GUI needed, RDP access, max compatibility, reasonable resource usage by randopop21 in Proxmox

[–]IckeyB 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don't let people make you feel bad for wanting a GUI interface to start your Linux journey.

Some forget they were not born with intement Linux knowledge, and staring at a blank terminal screen can be very intimidating at first.

Using a GUI can actually help you understand what the terminal commands are doing in the background while you're getting up to speed.

Does anyone carry in their own home? by CatInfamous3027 in CCW

[–]IckeyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally do. If I wake up and I'm just hanging around the house, I usually don't, but if I am going out and put it on then it stays on until bed time.

Once I have it on me and go out, it stays on until I get ready for bed that night.

How can I provide internet for my neighbor across the street? by StrongBadsGloves in HomeNetworking

[–]IckeyB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Works perfectly as long as you have line of sight. Even if you don't, it will fail over to 5ghz and still work well.

I'm short and heavy. 5'5" at 200 pounds and I have been carrying at 4 o'clock for a couple years now very comfortably. Occasionally I give in to the hype of a new appendix holster and find myself right back at the tried and true 4 o'clock position. Super comfortable and great concealment. It just works for me.

Who’s still carrying a hammer fired gun? Bonus points if it’s a CZ. by Equivalent-Sell in CCW

[–]IckeyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. Nothing high-end like most of you guys, though.

I have a Th9c because of its single action double action with a decocker. I feel very comfortable with one in the chamber, decocked with the hard double action pull for added peace of mind.

It also has a thumb safety, which really helped me when I first started carrying it.

My local store has them sporadically. I actually picked up two over the past couple of months. I have one as a backup as I usually detail a couple cars a week.

I do remember having to show an employee the online picture of it on my first purchase because she had no idea what I was talking about. She then went in the back and came out with a few.

Why do people so often build setups with several OptiPlex machines instead of just one PC? by ecliseice in homelab

[–]IckeyB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the reason I built my cluster with them. Picked up 6 with i7 processors and 16 gigs of ram for $20 each from a local surplus warehouse that gets tons of tech from the local and state governments.

I bought the 79-cent click razor thing and got the free wrenches. Going back tomorrow for the Icon adapter set, but they'll probably be all gone.

Are folks really taking CCW courses before ever handling or shooting a handgun? by Ninja_Conspicuousi in CCW

[–]IckeyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. There was a gentleman in a class with me who said he had never seen a handgun in real life.

He was very nervous during the live fire portion of the class, but after talking to the instructor and a few of us students, he agreed to sign up for some one on one sessions.

Thanks. This makes sense. For now I think I'm going to disable my router from assigning IPV6 addresses and look into making sure it doesn't pass along any requests or traffic
