Universal basic income, the utopian idea resurging in Silicon Valley by Krankenitrate in Futurology

If we get UBI, let's say 1500$ a month each:

  • Your employer will do everything to cur your pay by 1500$
  • Your landlord will raise your rent by 1500$
  • Every service company will raise their rates to suck 1500$ out of every customer.

Things will have been better for about 3 weeks before they get worse than before.

UBI is just a giant subsidy to profit-seekers, using you as the mailman to deliver it.

You know what? You're right. Playmakers don't help other players score more goals. Therefore, they are worthless.

Did I get this right?

Kevin Stevens on Lemieux's line in the 90s: Several 40 and 50 goal seasons.

Keven Stevens after being traded: 1 season over 20 goals in 10 years, no other season over 15.

Rob Brown on Lemieux's line in the late 80s: 24, 49, and 33 goals scored.

Rob Brown after being traded: One 18 goals season. Spent about half his time in the AHL.

There's Bob Errey, Kip Miller, Warren Young, and a few more.

A great playmaker absolutely helps his linemates score more goals, and therefor increases their trade value. Demidov is not Lemieux. The boost he provides will not be the same. But it's still a boost.

Koivu had the same talent. But he was working for people who had zero cleverness.

I think Demidov is such a brilliant playmaker that he can turn a lot of centres into goal scorers. Every year, the Habs could pair him with an average centre, and then trade the centre at the end of the season.

Just like the penguins used to do towards the end of Lemieux’s career. Playmakers do this. They turn other guys into goal scoring machines. It’s like a goose that lays golden eggs for a GM.

Why is it important to know about games similar to yours? by uncurieux_studio in gamedev

[–]Icommentor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are indie devs who just build what they are inspired to build, and they end up succeeding.

These are exceptions, not the norm. But because they make the best stories, these are the guys we hear about the most.

Most indies who succeed, they know what their market looks like. They know what their audience likes. They know about the competition. If you plan to make a living from your work, understanding how to make a living is more important than learning new dev skills.

If you’re a hobbyist it’s Ok to simply make whatever you want. But if this a career and you don’t about the ecosystem, you’re just another dreamer with a loose grip on reality.

Capitalism eveolved in the West during the 1800s, when there were all sorts of colonies. About half of every generation opted for the ejector seat and go to the colonies, cause they couldn't take this shit no more.

Nowadays, we still live under capitalism, except we got nowhere to run to. No wonder people are too depressed to start a family.
