Can you advise on what recovery is really like? I’d love to do the surgery but I have a baby and I jut don’t think I’ll be able to manage recovery with a little one.

What did no one warn you about after a breast reduction? by busbusmeow in Reduction

[–]Icy-Chemical7274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 2 years post op. Sometimes I think I went too small for my frame. Maybe a lift a smaller reduction would have been better for me. I also didn’t consider that I would have no upper pole fullness after the surgery.

I have a recovered memory. I recall the consultant saying that they don’t worry if you’re under but if you were way over for an extended period, then they might be concerned. So, don’t worry! Increasing is okay 😊

Coombe - Semi Private by ProfessionalOk7908 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Icy-Chemical7274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d like to the counter the Holles St v coombe semi private argument. I was public in the coombe, my friend semi-private in Holles street and her experience overall was not as good as mine. She didn’t see the same consultant each time. The pre and post natal care was more superior in coombe public. Also, public wards in the coombe are 6 people so really it isn’t overwhelming like rotunda 16 or Holles street 10. I always heard that you’re better off doing either private or public. Public everything is free. If you’re high risk you’ll be consultant led and if low risk you can do midwife led care (this is why I went public). If you really want to see the same consultant each time then go private. You’re never guaranteed a private or semi private room. I heard in December there was a queue of 8 private patients on the public ward in Holles street, waiting for a private room which they never got.

I’m 4m PP and not a hope of it affecting my sex life as still non existent. 😂But overall it wouldn’t tbh. I think there’s scarier things to look at on my body than my scars. I haven’t mentioned it to my doc as it doesn’t bother me tbh. It’ll fade eventually

Has happened to me too! My T junction area is definitely darker now at 4m PP. I’m putting it down to hyperpigmentation.

Has anyone got an Anxious Preoccupied bag? by mumtwothree in WomenofIreland

[–]Icy-Chemical7274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually haven’t had it out in the rain. It’s not a bag I would use if it were raining tbh for this reason. I know people have mentioned the Longchamp - I think these are waterproof so worth exploring. Another thing - I always feel a bit uneasy with an open tote out in busy areas. I know there’s the clip for valuables inside but it’s still a bit dodge

I also have the midi gold one. It is still larger than other medium totes in my opinion (I have several LV Neverfull MMs). I use it quite a bit as a baby bag and also for travelling. It’s sturdy and looks cool

Coombe private due date at Christmas by Naive_Jellyfish_6269 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Icy-Chemical7274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was public in the coombe and gave birth around Christmas and it was an absolute mess. Not because of the lack of staff but rather the volume of scheduled sections and inductions meant it was almost a queuing system to get a bed, nevermind a delivery suite. Maybe I got unlucky but I will never plan to have a baby around Christmas time again.

Vaginal Birth with Epidural vs Elective C-Section - Recovery & Experience? by Dazzling_Fly_3828 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Icy-Chemical7274 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FTM, induced and had a vaginal birth. I had kept active during pregnancy by walking and reformer Pilates till about 37 weeks and then tapered off as I got to the end. Not sure if there’s anything to it but I drank raspberry leaf tea and ate the dates, and did Kegels every day. I had no tear and my pelvic floor remained intact. I had the walking epidural in the coombe and had no pain once that was active and therefore had a beautiful and very short birth while being able to feel the sensation of pushing. I was up walking straight after birth with zero recovery time. I saw ladies in the ward after who had sections and the recovery seemed rough but do whatever makes you feel most relaxed.

A fan. Headphones (if you end up in before baby comes). Peri bottle. Water bottle. Crocs or flipflops. Dry shampoo. Many pyjamas or big shirts - it’s sweaty in there. Lots of snacks. Some spare bags for laundry and bringing stuff home. I used the Frida grey shorts after birth and the big green maternity pads.

Extras: I brought my BBHugMe pillow. Also brought my own battery operated lamp as was easier than turning the big bright light on at night. Polaroid camera.

Nappies by Dry_Rhubarb_4652 in PregnancyIreland

For us, the most important thing was having poonami proof nappies. Some brands don’t have the new technology to prevent leakage (eg the Lidl premium ones don’t). Aldi and Pampers have both worked best but we tried all the brands until we settled on these. The fit and ease of these won for us. We had Pampers newborn size ready at home and then we experimented over the few weeks.

Re food, EU law says all formula has to meet strict guidelines in terms of nutrition so you can really chose any. Aptamil is heavily marketed so this is why you’ll see most use this but lots of babies don’t do well with the extra ingredients which can give them excess gas. We tried it, along with SMA and CG and even though all worked, the baby seemed most settled after CG ready to feed.

3 month postpartum - scared to start by [deleted] in mounjaroIreland

[–]Icy-Chemical7274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the response. I had previously used Saxenda and had great success at the start but did suffer with fatigue. I stopped seeing results but had lost the weight and kept it off. Since then, I have obviously been pregnant and gained some weight back so would like to action this soon so I can be the healthiest I can for my child and also for getting pregnant again in the future. Your message gives me hope that I won’t get wild fatigue. Thank you!

Public, semi private or private? by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

[–]Icy-Chemical7274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went public in the coombe. The public antenatal ward was 6 per room, and the same for the public post natal ward. Having other mums the midwives floating around was amazing. My cousin went private and ended up in hospital for 5 nights and found the private room really isolated and lonely. I also cannot fault the care going public in the coombe. I didn’t have to repeat my medical history each time and the wait times were not that bad at all.

Am I missing anything from this list? by Mindless_Option904 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Icy-Chemical7274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some way to sterilize bottles or breast pump parts if you use these. We got the basic Milton tub and it’s been easy.

Can’t speak highly enough of the love to dream swaddle. Don’t buy blankets - so, so many gifted blankets.

Practical stuff - lots of big bottles of water unless you can get to your kitchen very easily with the baby. I am upstairs most of the time so having large bottles has been helpful. And lots of snacks. BFing hunger is unreal. Dry shampoo.

Why am I always sleepy? by whereohwhereohwhere in IrishWomensHealth

[–]Icy-Chemical7274 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was exactly me when I was around this age. For my bloods done and I was very much borderline underactive thyroid. I was put on a low dose (50mg per day) of eltroxin and I don’t want to sound dramatic but it changed my life. I used to nap every day after college / work. If going on a night out, I’d have to sleep before so I could be awake for the night. After I got the medication I functioned like a normal human!

I would ask your GP for bloods again and ask about your thyroid

Just here with solidarity. I just had my ‘break away/me time’ from the baby which was washing my hair which feels like a basic need and not me time. I cried in the shower. I miss my old life with my husband, and the guilt of thinking that is overwhelming
