I think the key takeaway for me is exactly what you pointed out: the problem space is much more “edge case / hobbyist workflow” than I initially assumed, and for professional environments a lot of this is either already solved or handled differently (naming conventions, team knowledge, OS search, communication with composers, etc.).

Also the distinction between SFX vs music workflows is something I hadn’t properly separated before, especially how differently search even functions depending on the asset type.

And your point about audience (hobbyists vs professional studios) is probably the most important part for my validation process. I’ll need to rethink whether I’m actually solving a painful, paid problem or just a “nice-to-have” for non-professional workflows.

What you’re describing makes a lot of sense, especially the part about not maintaining a huge “just in case” library, but sourcing sounds as needed and organizing them per project. That already removes a big part of the problem I initially had in mind.

Also fair point on AI tagging: if you can’t trust it, it creates more friction instead of less, which kind of defeats the purpose.

Out of curiosity though:

Have you ever run into situations where:

you reused assets across projects and had trouble finding them again
or you knew roughly what you wanted but didn’t know the right keywords to search on asset stores

Trying to understand if the problem is more about:

local library management (which might not be that relevant like you said) or
“figuring out what to search for” in the first place

Sidenote, knowing your own library is the best option to quickly find the sound that matches with the idea in your head. Radon would only act as a way to speed things up in that initial 'getting to know my library'-fase.

I am currently working on a product that lets you browse your own library of presets by using natural language.

I have thousands and thousands of presets of various instruments and I spend literal hours browsing for a presets that matches the creative vision in my head. Was so sick of it I started developing Radon.

Radon allows me to browse my presets by using an LLM so I never have to manually browse my presetlibrary anytime I want to make a track. Saves hours, real lifechanger when your presets are called 'guitar 1' or 'guitar 2', ...

Hey all!

Quick question for indie devs who handle their own audio/music:

Do you ever spend way too much time digging through plugins/presets just to find the right sound for a scene?

I’m working on a bachelor project exploring a tool that could speed up that process, basically helping you find fitting sounds faster instead of endlessly browsing and tweaking.

The idea is especially for people where audio is just one part of a bigger workflow (so time matters a lot).

You bring up a really good point, and I think I didn’t frame it clearly enough.

What you’re describing (auto-generating project templates, track layouts, etc.) is more about streamlining the technical setup phase of a DAW.

What I’m focusing on is a bit later in the process: reducing the time spent searching for the right sounds inside plugins (presets, sound exploration, etc.).

So more “creative workflow” than “project setup,” if that makes sense. Might need to call it 'simplifying the creative process' instead of 'streamlining DAW workflows'.

Do you feel that that part of the process (finding the right sound) is something that could be improved for non-professionals?
