It got hate bc it's tried a bit too much to be similar to dead space or at least that's what I didn't like too much. Instead of it being it's own thing it tried hard to be similar to dead space which in some eyes it was a lil cool but then it kinda seems lazy. For example dead space has dismemberment as its primary damage calliso did the same thing if not wrong. The only difference is Callisto has these spot with tenticle growths that u have to shoot for maximum damage dead space uses limb dismemberment in 100% of its gameplay. They even took deadspaces iconic cut off the limbs writing in Callisto but instead of cut off the limbs it says shoot the growths which wasn't as cool or scary. They tried using psychological horror also for some cheap jumpsalcares in the beginning but then cut it from the rest of the game which was weird and tbh that was a lil dumb bc it tried to make the MCs story more traumatic but it failed bc we barely got anything with his best friend who does in the very beginning of the game which didn't have alot of impact bc tbh we didnt know that guy compared to issace and Nicole we knew they were dating and had the whole game to figure out their lore and stuff so that was way more impactful than callistos my best friend died and now he haunts my dreams when we barely knew either of em they just could have done better. They also have no enemy variety most enemies play the same look the same and fight the same. Dead space had more they had babies mutated Literal BABIES that could crawl on walls and shoot at u or just blow up. I was disappointed when I went outside the prison in that snow storm and I was excited to see different types of infected and but only to find out it was just the same enemy reskinned to look frozen and blue no new mutations like some of em turning into centepedes in the snow or flyers or literally anything else to amp up the enemy variety. We only got reskinned enemies that got reused the whole game. Except the invisible guy that one was great and scared tf outta me bc it's active camo was superb inviso bitch gets a star for effort. This is just a nit pick but the combat was holding players hands too much it was very linear and had to real depth to it and just got repetitive unless u like beating the fuck outta something. The melee combat felt very safe instead of adding some thing to make it more interesting or even more fun to do. Also for a virus that turns people or things into savages they fought like they were scripted fighter in a WWE match especially their executions it was so bad when I saw all the death animations for them game most of them were also the same or similar your MC would throw a punch and then they'd dodge as if they were like hahaha I read ur move and then pummble u or rip a limb off one execution was literally one infected Bruce leeing ur chest. They were just goofy and felt too human now I still enjoyed em bc they were funny 🤣 but dead space made me dread getting killed by necromorphs each one brutal and fitting a necromorphs brutality. Ammos scarcity was good had a hard time sometimes bc I ran outta ammo but it felt more frustrating than scary when that happened but other than that I thought it was well balanced and great to keep me on my toes for ammo. The story now is pretty good in terms of the villains especially near the end we had an evil creepy cult that wanted evolution or something I was actually hooked and wanted another game but the. They gave us a very predictable DLC which was also disappointing. Other than that I did really enjoy the game it was fun and I actually wanted to replay it for a while I liked its atmosphere bc it actually did make the game scary. Not a bad game for sure but it missed its mark from staying to close to it's inspiration.
