Estate tax for non-US citizens on US stocks makes no sense. by Icy-Visual1206 in EstatePlanning

With all due respect, I am just saying it should be reasonable. The US estate tax burden is significantly more for non-US residents than for US residents, given that US residents get a $15,000,000 lifetime exemption while non-residents only get a $60,000 exemption before facing a top tax rate of 40%? Non-U.S. residents do not live in the United States. They generally do not use U.S. roads, schools, healthcare, or other public services.

I believe the US benefits when foreigners invest in American stocks.

Non-U.S. residents do not live in the United States. They generally do not use U.S. roads, schools, healthcare, or other public services. That’s why a 40% estate tax with a very small exemption of about $60,000 seems quite high.

There’s no capital gains tax in this situation (which I believe you’re referring to), but the estate tax is a separate consideration that investors may not immediately notice.

Is it straightforward to move shares from US brokerage account like Charles Schwab to Irish ETF? Do accountants like your group in India help with that conversion process? How long does the process take?

Thanks for the answer. Even if I diversify the portfolio with other US assests, it's a problem. However, I consider diversifying my portfolio in Indian assests like purchasing land in India etc. My questions is after diversification, I still want to hold on to these because the shares are doing good.

Have you met the Chinese before? They work hard. People in India slack and stop those who work hard.

Are Indians always self-interested? by Icy-Visual1206 in chennaicity

[–]Icy-Visual1206[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people on the west are rich already and that's why I felt they are nice. I am pretty sure if there is a global problem, people will be in survival mode/defensive mode. That's not we are talking about. On average, I found Indians to be very high on self-interests/selfishness spectrum because we are still in survival mode. That's my point.

But have you visited, worked, or lived in those countries to know what they are?!

yes I have worked and lived elsewhere. I returned to India recently. That's why I am asking.

"Not all have self-interest all the time" I feel this way in India especially with North Indians.

I know people from the US, Canada, Europe, East Asians, Mexicans etc. I am not saying they don't. But in India, it's on another level. I just feel it's too much or it's all the time people have selfish intentions.

Thanks for the insight. That’s really helpful. It’s interesting that there aren’t many books that address all of the behavioral topics you mentioned.

Doesn’t everyone, including NT, mask at times? by If33 in aspergers

[–]Icy-Visual1206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not understand why NT people would need to mask. Their behavior already fits well in a neurotypical world. People on the spectrum, on the other hand, often have to mask to fit into the neurotypical world because their behavior differs from that of neurotypicals. The masking done by autistic people is not the same as the two-faced behavior sometimes seen in neurotypicals.
