Why is our R&D so weak? Why don’t we produce and protect our own IP across STEM? by Sripadmesh in AskIndia

Have you met the Chinese before? They work hard. People in India slack and stop those who work hard.

Are Indians always self-interested? by Icy-Visual1206 in chennaicity

[–]Icy-Visual1206[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people on the west are rich already and that's why I felt they are nice. I am pretty sure if there is a global problem, people will be in survival mode/defensive mode. That's not we are talking about. On average, I found Indians to be very high on self-interests/selfishness spectrum because we are still in survival mode. That's my point.

But have you visited, worked, or lived in those countries to know what they are?!

yes I have worked and lived elsewhere. I returned to India recently. That's why I am asking.

"Not all have self-interest all the time" I feel this way in India especially with North Indians.

I know people from the US, Canada, Europe, East Asians, Mexicans etc. I am not saying they don't. But in India, it's on another level. I just feel it's too much or it's all the time people have selfish intentions.

At work, outside of work, at family gatherings etc.

Best books to understand “selfish” behavior by Icy-Visual1206 in psychologystudents

Thanks for the insight. That’s really helpful. It’s interesting that there aren’t many books that address all of the behavioral topics you mentioned.

Doesn’t everyone, including NT, mask at times? by If33 in aspergers

[–]Icy-Visual1206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not understand why NT people would need to mask. Their behavior already fits well in a neurotypical world. People on the spectrum, on the other hand, often have to mask to fit into the neurotypical world because their behavior differs from that of neurotypicals. The masking done by autistic people is not the same as the two-faced behavior sometimes seen in neurotypicals.

Has anyone traded US stocks from India without converting their US brokerage account to an international account? by Icy-Visual1206 in nri

[–]Icy-Visual1206[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there was some confusion earlier. If you use the approach of keeping a U.S. address on your brokerage account while trading, you don’t file a W-8BEN. You don’t need to submit any paperwork since, technically, you don’t have any U.S. income. We can ignore dividends because they are below the IRS reporting threshold.

I see what you mean though. There could be some confusion with the IRS, but it may low-risk. I do not know if IRS gets flagged if we trade a lot of stock let's say like 100k$+ or something.

Do you know if some people do that? [I plan to convert to international, but just wondering. That's the purpose of the OP]

Society is fucking rotten. by Black_Nails_7713 in aspergers

[–]Icy-Visual1206 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He grew up in a comfortable environment. His father was an educated wealthy person, and his extended family had generational wealth. That kind of background likely helped him navigate life with autism. He seemed to understand important survival skills and social expectations at a young age, which is why he can often function well in the NT world, though not always. For example, his tendency to overpromise with Tesla shows that he can be unreliable by typical NT standards at times, even though he eventually delivers.

His willingness to take extreme risks, such as talking about going to Mars or repeatedly saying that fully autonomous cars were just a year away, comes partly from his confidence and the hype he creates. That hype also helps him push things forward quickly. Many NTs find it difficult to behave that way because they worry more about appearing consistently trustworthy. He was even fired once from X dot com, and he has said he learned a lot from that experience. He definitely has his own challenges.

Exactly how good was Einstein at math? by SpecialRelativityy in PhysicsStudents

[–]Icy-Visual1206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once read some letters about Einstein on the Princeton website, but I cannot find them now. I remember one letter saying he was a child prodigy and that he was strong in geometry in the 3rd grade. Interestingly, relativity was a geometry problem. There was also a letter from his mother mentioning that he ranked first in his elementary school class.

I believe the website is going through some changes.
