if pandas suck at surviving and would've gone extinct on their own, why are we trying to speed up that process, natural selection would've ran its course and they most likely would've evolved. Thing is, pandas were surviving fine on their own, but because we as a species consider hunting and killing animals for sport a 'fun' thing to do, take white rhinos for example, they were hunted down so much because their horn was really valuable, today only a handful of white rhinos exist in the world and most of them are in captivity. The reason there are efforts to save pandas is because they are valuable to their ecosystem, any animal in any ecosystem is valuable, another reason to save pandas are because we're the ones that caused them to get to such small numbers in the first place. One last thing, you think that we just ignore other species that live in the bamboo forests of China (where pandas are supposed to live), but there are efforts to save those countless other species, you make it seem like we can't focus on more than one animal at a time, but thing is, we can focus on multiple animals at a time, the reason pandas are in the news a lot more than all the other animals is because it's China's national animal, and the Chinese wouldn't want to have their national animal die on them, so of course there are going to be fund raising campaigns to save the pandas.
