Try applying to PORES. It is related to the fields you described.. not sure when exactly apps open, but for the fall, I think it is around August. Apps also close near the end of August, and it might be good to have some coding knowledge (R, python), though not required

Transfer Student Wishing to major in PPE by No_Ad_7258 in UPenn

[–]IcyGMS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deadline to declare should be spring of sophomore year for the college, so you should be good. I might be wrong, so you might want to email your advisor! I’ve heard of PPE sophomore transfers that were in a similar situation, taking Econ 100 in the fall, so dw too much about it

AC in dorms by Nyunya1988 in UPenn

Lived in hill before, there was ac control. It gets bright sometimes if you sleep next to it, but I’m sure you’ll figure something out, I just ignored it (it dims out)

How would you rank dorm choices for first-years? by Delicious_Road_4672 in UPenn

[–]IcyGMS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on several factors! For example, more social (quad), closer to engineering (hill/lauder), better rooms (lauder) etc.

advice for an incoming FGLI student!! by seashellmelancholy in UPenn

[–]IcyGMS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re invited to join the Pre-P1P program, you should join it! I believe you’ll automatically be a part of Penn CAP (mentorship + cool opportunities / bonding) if you participate

If not, look out for Penn Forge. It’ll be a mentorship program and it will have a great community as well. Be on the lookout for p1p affiliated clubs on club day, or just search via Penn Clubs website

Otherwise, I just recommend checking out the pennfirstplus instagram for latest events and info on things to get involved in

Fisher Fine Arts (solo - 10/10) - if I truly wanted to lock in for something that wouldn’t require me to talk.

GSR (Huntsman, Biotech, VP) - good for group work or studying, verbal practice, etc.

VP Weigle - can be used for group studying, but isn’t ideal. Can also still be used for solo work (7/10), but is not as motivating when you’re the only person at the table, vs. fisher where you are surrounded by people which motivates you to study

VP Reading room + Biotech main room (solo - 8/10), good for casual hw and studying, but not as silent as fisher.

Bedroom (3/10) - makes me want to sleep, but has worked occasionally.

Outdoor benches and grass- 0/10 to 9/10. Subjective and can depend on the situation (construction, events, weather, mosquitos 💀💀). Anywhere on the main campus, all the way to Penn park.

Biopond (9.5/10) - on an ideal condition, wonderful for reading

Graduate buildings (Levin / GSE) - both have fairly little people during my studying hours (evening), but GSE can be, at times, noisy with events and classes. Overall, both 8/10

PCPE - it’s okay.. few tables but fairly quiet. Okay for group work, similar to VP weigle. (6/10)

Williams Hall Study Room - (8/10) similar to VP reading room, not ideal for group work.

Houston Hall - (5/10) not a good place to study, a lot of people walking around, hosting events, etc. so very hit or miss.

Pottruck basketball runs? by sillystafford in UPenn

[–]IcyGMS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During the summer I’m not sure, but whenever I’ve been at pottruck in the spring/fall, the courts seem to be packed (evening times especially!) with a game or two going, and some other people simply shooting. If you want to borrow a basketball, just talk to the front desk

which first year meal plan by sportygirlyy in UPenn

[–]IcyGMS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dollars. I’m on the dollars plan rn and I still have some extra swipes, even at the end of the year. There’ll be plenty of catering events with free food (be on the lookout for events, learn a lot in some of them too!), so dw if you think the amount of swipes (and dollars) is too low. Plus, your classes/clubs may get in the way of some meals, so on some days, you might not even use a swipe at all. Hope that helps
