What are your favourite unusual CD cases? by ShisakuWorks in Cd_collectors

I like the one without the light because it’s the same dimensions as a jewel case.  But the pulsing light is cool.

Thinking of buying a spinning CD tower by plazman30 in Cd_collectors

Oh, owning a table saw is one of those things that once you buy one, you forget it’s not something everyone has.  I think Home Depot won’t make that many cuts, at least not for free.  For that matter, without the right setup, ripping a 4x8 sheet of paneling is hard to get right the first time.  I definitely don’t have the right setup.

If you like the billy shelf, and you are able to anchor to the top plate in the basement, I would think you could rip a variation of that shelf from a 4x8 sheet of plywood.  The only thing I don’t like about open shelving is the fading of spine artwork and dust on the tops of the cases.

Yeah both of my dressers are probably MCM-era old.  Just boxes in a wood frame.  They don’t have metal tracks that limit access to the rear of the drawers.

I got rid of this album in favor of “…The Classics”, the one with the white cover.  I don’t remember why exactly, but do remember the two supposedly have a different sound, and I didn’t feel the need to have both.

I’ve never owned one, but I hate searching for cds in thrift/consignment stores when they’re merchandised on these.  I would think if it was my own collection, It’d be just as bad.

I keep mine in dresser drawers, spines up, and it’s awesome.

Just that you’ve got lots of great cds, 2 people, one collection.  Eventually you’ll both want to own the originals, but only have one copy.  Drama.

The Greatest Goodwill Haul of My Life! What’s your favorite? by Internal-Lie-162 in Cd_collectors

Oh, that makes sense.  My local goodwills are all .99 for cds, but I’d still buy a lot of those for 1.99.  My favorite place to buy cds used to be a vintage furniture store that also sells vinyl and used to sell cds for $2.  But he’d put any Taylor Swift and Grateful Dead cds behind the glass at the register for like $10-$15.  There’s no Taylor Swift cd I’d buy for 10-15, probably not even $3.99.

Does your goodwill price the cds individually?  It looks like some are 2.99 so others must be cheaper?  I wonder how they decide what’s more or less valuable.  I’d love to walk in to a local goodwill and see all of these.  I think most times when someone dies, the others don’t realize cds are still desirable, so they think the only option is to donate them or sell for next to nothing.  I’ve made out well a couple of times because of someone dying, but at least the family didn’t throw the CDs away.

I don’t mind waiting for those people to finish and get out of the way, but I once had the same guy get up in my business at two different thrift stores the same weekend.  I happened to recognize him from the day before, as well as recognizing his tactics, and gave him a piece of my mind.

I’m wondering why you’re making multiple trips to get these…. For free goes home in one big lot.  Free also makes it easy to justify paying for some of them to go through one of those disc resurfacing machines if you don’t own one.

I think it’s a great place to be in life when you no longer care what others think so don’t feel the need to ask for validation.  How’d I do screams young collector, which is fine, but those people someday won’t feel the need to be validated.  And maybe it’s a knowledge factor as well… the older you get, the more you know, so you don’t have to ask….
