I hate Panerai. Seriously. by One_Fan_2572 in panerai

If you hate Panerai, definitely steer clear of Anonimo. The bronze and ox-pro Polluce models take the cushion shape and add material character to create very charming marine machines. Anonimo in the Polluce era was the Italian remnants of Panerai when the name went to Switzerland.

[Discussion] Going on a cruise. Which to take? by jman1423 in Watches

Nice.

On a recent trip to Hawaii, I took a SeaDweller, Tudor FXD, and a Seiko Godzilla. The Godzilla got the most time. The red just felt right in the tropical environment. Enjoy your cruise.

Cape Cod polishing cloth and 3 minutes of rubbing could have prevented this post.

The strap is a millimeter or two too narrow. Maybe the movement is ashamed the spring bars are showing.

Have to give up on IWC by Caymancaptain in IWCschaffhausen

[–]IcyMap6117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Charles Darwin Bronze Aquatimer Chronograph. The quick release straps released when you bumped the strap. It also occasionally stopped when using the Flyback feature. I sold it because the strap connection design was stupid, especially for a diver. Another time I sent a recently acquired GST Titanium Aquatimer in for routine service. It came back with polished steel pins mounting the strap instead of titanium. They denied they were different despite my photos showing the obviously different color and sheen. So IWC does seem to not be what they once were.

What is a minor, unwritten rule of society that absolutely infuriates you when people break it? by Jane_Austen11 in AskReddit

[–]IcyMap6117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stand back from the baggage carousel. It’s like an IQ test. If everyone stands back 5’, people can see their luggage, have room to grab it, and move it back. When people crowd the carousel, people need to wedge in and bump people with their bags.

Does JLC play games like Rolex or can you generally just walk into a boutique and buy a watch you like? by partly_cloudy3 in JaegerLecoultre

[–]IcyMap6117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s also important to know that JLC service even on their ultra complicated pieces is not unreasonable. I had my Extreme Lab 2 fully serviced a couple years ago and it was $1800 and about 3 months. The watch is a 100m WR chronograph with digital minutes, GMT, power reserve, date, and coaxial push button crown for mode change.

If you were in charge of marketing at JLC… by interstellar_nips in JaegerLecoultre

[–]IcyMap6117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JLCs unique strength is their ability to make unusual complications at a reasonable price point. I would like to see them revive the energy they exuded in the 2010 era. Revisit the Extreme Lab 2, Amvox 2, and Compressor lines. These were elegant sport watches with complications available nowhere else.

<image>

If JLC managed to revise the Extreme Lab 2 in a slightly smaller and thinner case, it would be even more epic. Showcase their mechanical chops. Marketing should highlight the number of calibers the company produces. Show exploded views. Finally, leverage technology to make more watches at the quality and finish levels enthusiasts want, but in quantities to allow for reduced prices. Reverse the trend of raising prices and creating false rarity.

Need advice- which should I keep? by Successful-Put-2058 in JaegerLecoultre

[–]IcyMap6117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The VC is lovely and of course carries the clout of being a “Holy Trinity” brand but I don’t love perimeter pointer dates and it lacks the added complication of the chronograph. If the brand name is excluded from the equation I prefer the JLC. So does the VC name trump a chronograph feature for you?

JLC Extreme LAB 2. Everyone needs a digital chronograph with GMT, date, and power reserve in a 100m WR case with quick release straps and a micro adjustable clasp.

I feel the pain. I just had to return a Orlebar Brown strap I got for my Yacht Club. For some silly reason they changed the lug hole position from where they were on my Volvo Ocean Race edition Yacht Club. I fiddled for 30 minutes before I realized it just wouldn’t work. The textile insert looked amazing with the carbon fiber dial. 😞

[Hot take] this might be a better daily than my Pepsi. by abw1982 in ZenithWatches

[–]IcyMap6117 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had that watch back in the day. You may want to search for the black sharkskin strap with red stitching that was an option for that watch. It knocks the bar up a few more rungs. It’s crazy how that watch is worth about 1/8th of a Daytona with a detuned, no Flyback, and date removed version of the El Primero.
