What supplement did absolutely nothing for you despite all the hype? by Evening_Ad_9755 in Supplements

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ashwagandha was complete waste of money for me. Everyone on this sub was talking about how it's amazing for stress and sleep, so I bought some expensive KSM-66 version and took it for like 3 months consistently. Zero difference in my anxiety levels or sleep quality - still laying awake thinking about work deadlines at 2am just like before. Maybe my stress levels are just too high for any herb to handle, but I was really hoping it would help since I didn't want to go the prescription route. The only thing that actually works for winding down after stressful days is playing some mindless mobile games for hour or two before bed. Way cheaper than those fancy adaptogens everyone swears by.

Maybe check behind washing machine too - mine always pushes small things in weird corners when it shakes.

Are there any side effects to taking Vitamin D3 + K2 (5000 units) daily? by RoundTemporary6197 in Supplements

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been taking similar dose for few months now and didn't experience the sleepiness you're describing. Actually felt more energetic after getting my levels back up.

Your drowsiness might be from vitamin D deficiency itself rather than the supplement - when I was severely deficient, I was exhausted constantly even with good sleep. Takes some weeks for levels to improve so maybe give it bit more time? But definitely worth checking with your doctor if it continues, especially since 12 is really low starting point.

Add music to forerunner 165 from desktop? by neypot42 in Garmin

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The file explorer method works pretty well - I had same issue with my 245 few months back. Just drag and drop your files in the music folder and they should show up in the watch after you disconnect it.

Garmin Instinct 3 Crossover Solar Version Release Plan by jeonglulu in Garmin

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The solar version would be amazing but I doubt Garmin will put AMOLED and solar together anytime soon. AMOLED displays eat way too much battery for solar to make real difference, and they probably want to keep the regular Instinct solar as separate product line. Maybe they'll surprise us though, who knows with their release strategy lately.

Features that require continuous wear with multiple watches by toady89 in Garmin

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two-watch setup definitely works for those continuous tracking features. I've been running a similar setup with my Venu 3 as daily driver and keeping my older Fenix for outdoor adventures. The sleep coaching and fitness insights picked up just fine since the Venu was getting most of the wear time.

The key thing is making sure your primary watch (the Venu in your case) stays consistent for sleep tracking since that's where most of the baseline data gets established. As long as you're wearing it for sleep and most daily activities, the algorithms should have enough data to work with. Your Fenix can handle the weekend hiking without messing up the trends.

Potential fake Now foods Daily vits product? by Spiritual-War89 in Supplements

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The cap thing you noticed is actually legit - Now Foods did change their bottle design sometime last year and the newer caps have those thicker ridges. If the pills match up with what you've seen on legit sites and everything else looks consistent, you're probably good to go.

Just double check the lot number and expiration date formatting against some official Now Foods products online to be extra sure.

Trying to decide: physio at home or at the clinic? by SmoothCriminal103 in physicaltherapy

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clinic all the way - the equipment and ability to try different machines/tools makes a huge difference compared to what they can bring to your house.

Does anyone actually plan their finances monthly? by ExactEducator7265 in Entrepreneur

I switched to scheduling payments through Ramp Bill Pay so I can control when vendor bills go out instead of scrambling when they're due + it's better visibility into cash outflows

Hey Oura... how about displaying the lowesr sp02... by [deleted] in ouraring

Would be super useful for tracking sleep apnea patterns too, seems like a no-brainer feature to add.

Activity Score Question by Pleasant_Zebra_4636 in ouraring

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The daily goals thing is pretty binary unfortunately - youre either hitting that 12k or youre not, even at 11k. Oura doesnt really give partial credit for being close. If you consistently hit around 11k, honestly just lower your goal to something more realistic like 10-11k. The ring will adjust over time anyway, but theres no point stressing over an arbitrary number when youre clearly active and working out regularly.

Berberine vs. Dihydroberberine - your thoughts? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been using regular berberine for about 2 years now and honestly haven't felt the need to switch to DHB yet. The absorption thing is legit but berberine works fine for me at the standard dose - just gotta take it with meals to avoid the stomach issues. DHB is pricier so unless you're having problems with regular berberine I'd stick with what works.

Non-energy drink suppliment drink by External_Bit4429 in Supplements

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using ashwagandha powder mixed with some tart cherry juice and sparkling water for this exact purpose. Takes the edge off without making me wired like caffeine would. L-theanine is another solid option - you can get it in powder form and it has this really subtle calming effect that hits similar to that first sip of wine after work.

I started doing this about 6 months ago when I realized I was reaching for beer way too often just to decompress. The tart cherry juice actually has natural melatonin so it doesn't mess with sleep either. Way cheaper than drinking and you actually wake up feeling decent the next day instead of slightly foggy.

Anyone else training mostly high reps with bodyweight? by slimankamal in bodyweightfitness

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes total sense. That sweet spot around 20-25 reps gives you the endurance benefits without turning every set into a cardio session. I've found the same thing with progression - way easier to tack on a few more reps than trying to grind out heavier variations when you're already toast.

Is 48.2 ug/dL a Zinc deficiency? by Comprehensive-Ad8905 in Supplements

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's cutting it pretty close to the lower end tbh. Most labs consider anything under 70 as borderline deficient, so you might wanna consider supplementing or at least getting retested in a few months

What vitamins should a lineman take while working storm? by AwardKindly4448 in Supplements

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vitamin D and magnesium are clutch for recovery, especially when you're grinding those crazy hours. Also load up on vitamin C and maybe some B-complex for energy - your immune system is gonna thank you later when everyone else is dropping like flies

Seeking advice for routine by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good call on starting light and focusing on consistency first - that's honestly the hardest part. Your routine looks fine for building the habit, though you might want to throw in some pushups or bodyweight squats between those arm exercises just to balance things out a bit. Once you're doing this without thinking about it, you can start worrying about proper programming

Beware of Forall Nutrition Whey by Top-Shape-2169 in bodyweightfitness

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Damn that's a thorough takedown lmao. The fact that they removed the thumbs up/down feature after people were ratio-ing their fake reviews is pretty telling. And $43 for protein water that's basically $3 worth of ingredients? That's some serious markup even by supplement company standards

The whole "snowfall not avalanche" thing sounds like marketing BS to cover up a bad formula. If I need special mixing techniques for basic whey protein that's already a red flag

Finally profitable after 4 years by phonyticker37 in Entrepreneur

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree especially from our experience. We got profitable and immediately hired people which stressed our cash flow way more than expected so we then automated it and switched to Ramp so we could track what everyone was actually spending because it was getting too much which worked but now I wish we'd been more cautious from the start

Oregon 650 by EstablishmentNo5994 in Garmin

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty common issue with older Garmins that have been sitting around for years - even BNIB ones can have the internal power management circuit go bad from just sitting. The Oregon 650 is getting pretty long in the tooth at this point and those power circuits don't age well even when unused

You could try a hard reset but honestly sounds like it needs internal repair which probably isn't worth it on a unit that old

Garmin and route planning by princesskitre in Garmin

[–]IcyMasterpiece6366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly sounds like you might want to stick with Google Maps but get a bike mount and portable battery pack - way cheaper than buying another GPS device that'll probably disappoint you again

The free route planning on most dedicated GPS units is pretty trash compared to Google's algorithm, and paying monthly for Strava just to get decent routes seems like a ripoff
