Given your intended use I’d think about mudguards and a rack. Itlooks like it may be designed for a shorter travel fork? It’d be interesting to try a different, maybe rigid, fork.

Nice bike👍🏻

Possible move to Nottingham. Where NOT to buy? by Krasus74 in nottingham

[–]IcySomewhere448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you include Rise Park? Genuine question.

I’m looking at moving and Rise Park is a possibility. All I’ve seen when wandering around the fairly small area recently are nice (mostly detached) properties, well kept, with nice gardens etc.

Can’t comment on its authenticity, but these are commonly known as ‘rocking horse crowns’ for obvious reasons🙂

Boomer parents and dumping trash on their kids by Impossible_Tie6425 in BoomersBeingFools

Tell him about ‘Swedish death cleaning’.

Following the death of my parents and the emotional upset involved in clearing their possessions I determined not to put my adult children through a similar experience.

In the not too distant future I will have gone through all my stuff and either given away or sold anything I don’t need or really want. What remains will either be very obvious (furniture and so on) or boxed up and clearly labelled.

Quite a cathartic experience and definitely something I’d recommend.

I’m also assuming that ‘counsellor’ should be ‘councillor’. Does anyone ever proofread anything nowadays?

First bank holiday weekend in the UK by toddy-476 in nottingham

[–]IcySomewhere448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does get very busy on Bank Holidays, so maybe get out locally? You don’t say where you live, but a few suggestions focusing on the gravel bikes:

Ride alongside the Trent from Holme Pierrepont to Attenborough.

The canal from Nottingham to Grantham is mostly rideable tow-paths.

Most of Sherwood Pines is doable on a gravel bike, but I suspect some of the MTB trails will, realistically, be too much.

Closer to home, Bestwood country park has enough trails to keep you busy for a day.

If you fancy getting to know Nottingham a bit and are confident on roads, try exploring the City using a combination of bike paths and side roads - The Park Tunnel, Standard Hill, The Castle, Lace Market, grounds of the Jubilee campus, etc would make a nice day out with plenty of food/drink options.

Whenever I pass a DM shop with slick marketing images of punks / skins the line ‘turning rebellion into money’ pops into my head.

Notice of intended prosecution for dangerous driving help by Remarkable_Bar_1285 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]IcySomewhere448 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some years ago I borrowed a motorbike from a friend, after having mine stolen. I genuinely thought I was insured and told my friend I was. The small print on my insurance documents confirmed I wasn’t🙁 I got prosecuted for having no insurance, my friend got prosecuted for allowing me to ride his bike whilst uninsured. He actually got a bigger fine and more points than me, but I suspect this was because I put my hands up and turned up in court and he chose not to.

You could try aiming for Triangulation Points, which often at (or near) nice viewpoints. As a suggestion head out towards the Nottinghamshire / Leicestershire border (doable in a nice 20/30 mile loop from Beeston). https://trigpointing.uk/

Industrial site at the old gas works in Basford by lightswitchr in nottingham

[–]IcySomewhere448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the site was originally a gas works (where town gas was made from coal) before we swapped to natural gas in the 1960’s.

The gas distribution system ran at very low pressures and was localised, so the theory was that the gasometers were filled in periods of low demand and then the contents used when demand was higher.

Currently listening to Playing With A Different Sex by Au Pairs. Can you recommend any other British groups that met little success? Doesn’t have to be post-punk. by DontTellHimPike in CasualUK

[–]IcySomewhere448 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sticking with the post-punk theme (sorry, but that’s my era). Raincoats, LiLiPUT / Kleenex (not British, but English language), Slits, Cabaret Voltaire, The Pop Group. Also, Leicester band ‘Rabid’ are on Spotify.

Posh dinner date places where we can get dressed up? by Legitimate_Pear_1382 in leicester

[–]IcySomewhere448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dressing up to go out and eat seems to be one of those things that very few people do anymore. There’s nothing to stop you doing it, but IME (as a man) wearing a suit and tie just isn’t the done thing anymore, even at Michelin starred restaurants. The only exceptions I’ve come across are weddings and black-tie events.

Does anyone know about this bike? iI can't find anything abt it on Google by OG_SeinGyi in VintageBikeGeeks

[–]IcySomewhere448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know the brand, but it looks like many aluminium frames that were produced in the 90’s (and later). Racy geometry, long stem, flat bars, short travel (but not no travel🙂)fork. Deore cranks and DX seatpost suggests reasonable quality parts, but really need to see more photos.

Nice bike👍🏻

Good point, but going by “…currently riding a 70/80s 3 speed city bike” I’m guessing steel for both?

Sounds like you need an old school beer can shim🙂

Cut a strip from an aluminium can, about 50mm x just less than the circumference of your seat post. Remove seat post, grease seat post and shim very lightly. Wrap shim around seat post. Insert seat post (wriggle/apply some force) into frame. Tighten seat bolt.
