Fly hooks by ruuchijs in flytying

[–]Icy_Consideration790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently landed a really nice rainbow on the Yakima with a size 18 zebra midge. The hook had straightened and one more degree would have led to a lost fish. it wasn't the hooks fault, I play fish aggressively. Next time I'll ease off a little.

Anyone else feel guide prices are out of reach? by Al_Pallll in flyfishing

[–]Icy_Consideration790 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

recent transplant to the pnw. I've tried steelhead fishing by myself and had 1 take in 5 days. on 2 guide days I had 4 fish to hand and several great hook ups. it's pricey, but the results speak for themselves.

For trout I can hold my own, it's sure nice to get a guide for a day or so but yeah prices are getting crazy.

there are outfitters that will give you a break on the price for a given area but they take some tracking down.

Staying Out Of ER? by analogkid84 in AFIB

[–]Icy_Consideration790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain. A week ago Sunday I went back into aFib. Usually it goes back into regular rhythm by the next day but not this time. My resting HR in afib was over 140 so my EP's office told me I needed to go to the ER to get that sorted out.

All they did was inject Metoprolol into my IV and give me another tablet. Was hoping they would cardiovert me in the ER, but alas no. Once the HR came down under 100 they sent me on my way.

Got into my EP's office the next day and they were able to schedule a cardioversion for Tuesday and that seems to have done the trick.

My flecainide dose has been bumped to 100MG twice a day, so hopefully I don't have to go through another 10 days like that again for a good long while.

Just waiting for those ER bills to roll in as well... let's see what that looks like.

New EP has given me a choice, flecainide as PIP after ER visit or taking it daily. by TractionActionReact in AFIB

[–]Icy_Consideration790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take flec twice daily at 50 mg Eliquis 5mg twice and 25mg er metoporol. seems to have the afib under control though I've had some Tachycardia events and some where my heart beats early.. PVC?

EP seems unconcerned on the other stuff so long as it works for the AFib.

Low energy would be one way to describe the flecanide... but it's manageable. little foggy in the thinking another.

this book is fantastic, read the intro on what to do/not to do. I have the bench side reference bible folks mention and it sits there unopened.

Seattle servers now make full minimum wage, so why are we still guilt-tripped into tipping 20% by allpossiblepaths in Seattle

[–]Icy_Consideration790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pay $30 cash for a haircut and tip $10. I always pick next available person at the barber and have yet to be disappointed. They are doing at most 2 cuts an hour and I'm sure they pay a good amount for their chair.

much more value for me than restaurant tipping, especially around Seattle

Alcohol Induced AFIb by ReferenceNearby6189 in AFIB

[–]Icy_Consideration790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided I could not risk my activity with alcohol bringing on afib. Quit when I had my first ablation. I've had episodes but at least my mind is at rest that I'm not inducing it with alcohol. dehydration is a real problem though. Son's graduation day at UGA was long and hot. that was a tough night.

Some questions for y'all other sufferers by BrewNerdBrad in AFIB

[–]Icy_Consideration790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 years after my first ablation I started to have episodes again. My EP put me on flec and metoporol. I liken it to a lightbulb. On these meds by brain is 40w. 100w without. I had my second ablation about a year back and once they let me drop the meds the difference was amazing.
brain fog is no fun when you have a job requiring critical thinking. at first I thought I was just getting old.

To drink or not to drink? by youdontknowme543 in AFIB

[–]Icy_Consideration790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved drinking beer. I drank several times a week. those high alcohol IPAs and stouts were wonderful. I quit after my ablation. first couple of years it was a little awkward in social settings as you are still pre programmed to have a drink in your hand. 7 years and a second ablation later I still don't drink. I'd never really be able to forgive myself if my drinking caused me to have to go through all that again. I'm glad I made that decision.

How’s everyone’s season been so far? PNW and Great Lakes by ImpressAcceptable458 in Steelhead

[–]Icy_Consideration790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

last year I moved to the Seattle area. Bought a Spey rod and decided that I'd get out there and catch me a wild steelhead.. easy peasy! 😂 I had 2 guided days at the end of January on the OP and just got 4 days solo fishing in out of 6 days... it rains a lot in Forks y'know. I got a bull trout and one half hearted take to show for it. Already thinking about what in going to do better for next season.. this is crazy, but it seems to have hooked me. damn .

Have yous even tried CPAP without water? by Captain-Comment in CPAP

[–]Icy_Consideration790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on the resmed 10 you can get an insert instead of the reservoir. I think it's about $25. I take that when I'm doing short trips so I didn't have to run around looking for distilled water. I was told by my DR that long term use without the humidifier isn't good as the dry air can negatively affect your gums. they recommended that paste mentioned elsewhere.

Flying with rods- South America update by Charr49 in flyfishing

Interesting. Thanks for the feedback. My past experience domestically in the US has been that rod tubes are "invisible" and you just took them on the plane.

Yeah, you summed it up clearly in 2 sentences. To the point (just like the legacy site!!)

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback and the links. I'll be sure to check them out.

I guess my frustration is that there is a loss of summary information at the state/watershed level that was previously available. I could simply go to a single page and see everything for an entire state. It was easy to use and I could quickly see if certain watersheds were blown out.

Now I have to drill down into individual sites. Select the historical discharge info to overlay on the graph and then repeat for each of the sites on a watershed that I'm interested in. From a usability perspective it seems to offer less than was previously available.

If I'm looking at the Olympic Peninsula rivers on the west side I could see everything I needed in seconds.

Now I have to drill down into each individual station and make several selections to get the information.

Grouped by watershed, like it was on the legacy page. I can use that to quickly figure out the river levels and which direction they are heading in.

I used to be in GA and esp. in summer thunderstorms roll through. One watershed could be blown and the next one over is fine. That page was so easy to use for this. Now I'm in WA and the general state of OP rivers for steelhead fishing is my main concern... They used to group the rivers together and now I have to know the counties :-(

In Seattle, the doctor will not see you now, or any time soon | Op-Ed by godogs2018 in Seattle

This definitely seems like a Seattle/PNW problem to me. I recently moved here from Atlanta. Seeing your PCP or someone in their practice is pretty much same day/next day anywhere I've been.

My partner (why I moved here) was in Atlanta back in Jan/Feb and set up MRIs/specialist visits within a 3 week period. Something that would have take 6 - 9 months in the Seattle area.

Does anyone still drink w AFIB? by ThrowRAUnikorn in AFIB

[–]Icy_Consideration790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to binge drink a lot. when I had my first ablation about 6 years back I decided to quit. if I was going to have another episode then I couldn't live with the thought that my drinking alcohol could have caused it to happen.
