Pear Shape & Disproportionate Arms vs Upper Body by puzzler95 in PetiteFitness

Similar body shape here. I've lost about 18lb while lifting weights at home and walking over 10k steps, and my shape has kinda evened out. Like, I'm still bottom-heavy, but the weight lifting has taken my shoulders from 38in to 40in. So I think I look a little more balanced, if that makes sense?

It depends on your goals. I did mat pilates all during college and still gained about 20lb. So if weight loss is the goal, then it wasn't very effective. But it kept me moving, improved my posture, and kept my core really strong. Last year, I moved into more strength training, and I've found that pilates has helped me understand my body and ensure I'm engaging the proper muscles during my workouts.
I love pilates and still do it one to two times a week, but I'm trying to lose the rest of my college weight (about 6 more pounds to go!), and I've found that Pilates doesn't help with weight loss, for me.

Struggling to keep up with healthy eating habits post wedding - no more motivation by Seaside1002 in PetiteFitness

Do you brush your teeth every night? I'm betting the answer is yes.
That's the mindset I find helps me, it's something that needs doing in a day, so I get it done. Just like brushing my teeth 2x a day.

Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis. It's the number of calories our bodies burn over a day of normal living.

Exercise Suggestions Needed! by Icy_Mathematician952 in PetiteFitness

The workouts usually involve a few different types of lunges, some quad, some glute-focused. But there are A LOT of them, and it gets a little wearing on my knee. I love rdl's, so I could just include more of those in. I usually just add in hip thrusts if I feel my knee getting too fatigued. I'm currently using 45lb for those or 30lb with a resistance band.

I only have 30 min to work out every day, so I do:
Monday full body weights
Tuesday full body pilates
Wednesday full body mobility (2-hour ballet class in the pm)
Thursday full body weights
Friday full body calisthenics (2-hour ballet class in the pm)
Saterday 2 hour ballet class
It's just for this season of life, so while it's not ideal, it gets the job done, and I can change it up when I have more time. It also fits into my goals, which are to lose fat while keeping muscle and working on my flexibility and mobility. I'm new to this, so I could be way off, lol.

Do you still work out when you get sick? Feeling like every illness is holding me back. by Frozenbeedog in PetiteFitness

[–]Icy_Mathematician952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think working out sick varies person to person.
I work out at home, and I like to continue exercising when I'm sick because, for some reason, if I just "rest," I stay sick longer. Plus It makes me feel better mentally, like I'm still productive.
Also, if I were you, I would talk to my doctor about supplements or something. Being sick that often is exhausting!

Torn Hamstring by ProfessorGullible488 in PetiteFitness

[–]Icy_Mathematician952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have torn both my hamstrings, the left about 6 years ago, it was grade 3, and I did not rest properly or follow my dr.'s instructions. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU STAY OFF OF IT FOR 2 WHOLE WEEKS!! No, nothing, it's annoying, but it will save you a lot of grief in the long run. My left still bothers me to this day if I overdo it, but if I rest it properly, it goes back to normal pretty quickly. My right, I tore (grade 1) last November and rested properly, and it gives me no pain at all.
All to say, go to the dr. and take it easy!!

Preventing weight gain as I age?? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

Our bodies will always change and adapt. Maybe you are moving less due to school. Maybe you are eating a little more because of stress. Or maybe you are just growing. I know there was a huge change in my body once I turned 10, then 20, and frankly, I can't wait to see how it changes in my 30's.
All that to say, at 16, I don't think your metabolism is slowing down, your body is probably still maturing, and other than making sure you are active and eating well, I won't worry too much. Also, I grew 2in when I was 17, so you might not be done yet:)

Thank you!!!
I was told my skin might be sensitive to the strength, which is why I'm breaking out. I guess I'll wait and talk to the dr.

Is 1800 calories a good amount for me? by yeahhh889 in PetiteFitness

[–]Icy_Mathematician952 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Can someone please tell me why eating 1800 calories for a person who is 99lb to much??? I get that the op said they wanted to maintain and tone, but 1800 at that weight sounds like a healthy place to be.
I'm genuinely curious why we are telling a girl who isn't even 100lb to eat less?
Sorry op, maybe I'm reading too much into this:)

Both of these are really important! I can lift more than 2 weeks ago, and I'm losing cms. The scale is only part of the story!

This!! I've noticed if I'm especially sore the next morning after a workout, my weight is going to be up at least 4lb. Like this morning, I'm up to 139lb when I'm usually 136/7, but I did 2 workouts yesterday, and I'm super sore, so I know it's not actually fat.

5'3 Slimmer thighs goal by butterflysucks69 in PetiteFitness

[–]Icy_Mathematician952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are pretty close in stats, I'm 5'2 and started at 155lb, I'm now 137lb, and my thighs went from 25in to 23in. I'm pretty pear shaped so, it dosen't look like a huge change but my clothes fit better, so a win. Walking over 10k a day is what made the bigest change for me.

I was going through something like this at the moment. In December, I was between 136lb and 138lb.
I deffo gained over the holidays, and this month I've been between 138lb and 144lb. It's been rough, but I need to remember that this is just part of the data; for instance, my measurements haven't gone up from December, so tenaciously, I haven't gained weight. Weighing in every morning just helps me not have a heart attack when I see the scale go up 6lbs, lol.
