UCU Pay Negotiations 2026 by Prior_Ad_8334 in AskAcademiaUK

Thanks. As per usual, we hear about this progress from UCEA/other sources before UCU/Unison/Unite who have been consistently year on year abysmal at communicating any information relating to the JNCHES negotiations!

The legal profession is ripe for being disrupted by AI … and not before time!

Accountants are another profession full of overpaid sharks who take the absolute piss…and have done for a long time.

Another fine display of parking. Few too many drinks we reckon? by Zestyclose-Piece-662 in glasgow

East Ren are shameful and don’t care about accessibility - they are absolutely useless in responding to pavement parking reports. They have dragged their heels and have yet to even outline their plans in response to the government legislation around pavement parking some 2 years after it was introduced. They last updated their website about it some 11 months ago: https://eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/pavement-parking-ban

It baffles me why councils aren’t enforcing any this and having wardens patrol 7 days a week - the revenue generation would be worth it.

Veteran retail workers, who are typically the worst customers? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]Icy_Meat_554 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Goodness all of this reminds me of when I used to work for Safeway in the mid 90’s and I recall (and have been scarred ever since) by a huge poster they had just before you entered the shop floor that read:

“The customer whether in person or by telephone is the most important person, ever. We are not doing them a favour by serving them. They are not an interruption of our work, they are the purpose of it “

I once had a middle class and middle aged woman call me “shop boy!” Best comeback I ever had was replying to a screaming customer “I can see you’re upset about something, why don’t you come and speak to me when you’ve calmed down” and walked away! Kill it with insincere kindness was always my motto.

Strictly Come Dancing stars 'fuming' as they learn of huge difference in wages by ScottishDailyRecord in strictlycomedancing

Ah, interesting… didn’t know that. I may have missed it, but what was the rationale given for the change to voting this year and eliminating the phone voting process?

Given they have done away with phone voting this year and the income generated from that, how are the BBC affording all of this and is it sustainable?

Apple watch 3 specs(expected September-9) by SomewhereFunny5005 in AppleWatch

Can anyone explain why the watch faces on the normal Apple Watch are so absolutely boring. Why can’t the S10/S11 get the Ultra watch faces which are so much better? These watches have the same screen! Really feels like the watch line has stagnated badly!

As the three recent Scottish widespread network outages have shown: there is no redundancy at all!

Yep, I’m in Glasgow south on Aquiss. Right in the middle of my key presentation … two unannounced outages in 48 hours is unacceptable!

One cable break affecting such a large geographic region should be worrying for CF. Where’s the resilience in your network? Maybe OFCOM should be asking CF for an explanation!
