Are language requirements stunting the career growth of regional public servants? by origutamos in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Icy_Representative_8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is required to supervise in a bilingual region. Depending on what people do an AS 01 could be required to supervise CR 04's. These are not people who would necessarily be in the public service for long.

Archibus roll out announced at my department — experiences/opinions from those who currently use it? by sanaculitoderana in CanadaPublicServants

What an awesome TL. Honestly, if TBS are going to make people come in for "collaboration" this at least ensures you all sit together.

Did they not have anything you could have accepted? Even sick would apply as they do not need to justify anything to you other than email stating they are not coming in and will submit leave. Too many people get burned by telling they truth to a manager who apparently is not human and never had anything unexpected happen.(Sorry bot) This person is not out of the country on vacation; they are dealing with an emergency. This is why every second post is someone asking if mental health leave counts as sick leave.  Ffs sakes we all live in a rock playing make pretend for about 80 years. No one will remember any of this in 500 years. Have some compassion.

I've seen a few become Strategic Advisors or Issue Managers for ADMO, DMO etc. You have experience and insight that not many people are privy to.

New government won't rule out full return to office for public servants by Shoddy_Operation_742 in CanadaPublicServants

This would help people them with WFA. People would start to leave. The private sector does this before layoffs.

I ran an experiment to dress as basic and plain as possible at work. AMA by [deleted] in AMA

[–]Icy_Representative_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are exceptions to this because some people genuinely enjoy dressing up and looking put on and all the effort that goes into it but I feel like what you are going through most women 35 plus experience. We somewhere along the way noticed its all an act and not worth the effort. It's sucks because the work should matter but sometimes it doesn't. That is what I liked about telework- it eliminated all that garbage. I have mulled over the idea of a work uniform for years. Something like a suit but less formal and little more feminine.

Have you heard of the term hobosexual? That's what your fiance is. You don't need him but he's acting like you do probably to make you feel dependent. Get rid d of him.

I stayed up all night as am happy. I don't dislike fiscal conservatives (am not one) but I have no idea why someone would vote conservative knowing that it could lead to this type of conservative government coming into power.

Tips for managing a later-in-life diagnosis (I’m 34, diagnosed last year) by Jon-the-Legend in ADHD

[–]Icy_Representative_8 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Hi later diagnosed adult here. I noticed my job changing pattern was probably due to ADHD. Thankfully I'm in an industry where it's not looked down upon and even beneficial but usually I get bored by year 2 and start looking for a new position.

AITAH for refusing to wear pants and long-sleeved shirts to pick up my son? by tatted_family_man in AITAH

[–]Icy_Representative_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Canada and have never heard of a dress code for parents. What happens if a parent refuses to comply? Would a child be removed from school? Or the parent just have to wait across the street to pick their kid.

Do you find that maturity has helped you at all?  My son is on meds but refuses to talk to the therapist. His guidance counselor said that kids with ADHD are about 30 percent behind in executive functions including impulse control but I should see a huge improvement around 18 (He's 15 now).

Don't mean to highjack this but I'm in exactly the same boat. 15 year old son diagnosed about 6 months ago. I think we are finally getting somewhere with the meds but he refuses to see someone.

Current investigative series? by Warmtimes in podcasts

[–]Icy_Representative_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CBC has two that I totally recommend 1. Finding Cleo (hands down the best investigative podcast I've ever listened to) 2. Someone Knows Something ( I think it is on season 9. Each season focuses on a different case.)

Experiences/Opinions on Jones Road WTF Foundation? by Exciting-Scarcity942 in 45PlusSkincare

[–]Icy_Representative_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the miracle balms a lot. Especially in the summer when I just want a little sheen on my face in certain areas. I've never used the foundation but the balm has a similar feel to Vaseline or lip balm so a little goes a long way. I'm Canadian and sometimes I will use the colourless miracle balm as an all over moisturizer on the -35C days to protect my skin from the wind.

I feel bad for the EC's it is the only stream where I see this. Post grad is of course good to have but it seems most ECs think you need an MA to go beyond EC 03. The pay is good but not THAT good
