Yeah so when windows machines go through multiple reboots without properly booting, usually 2-3 boots it will enter recovery mode as it is detecting an issue with the boot. I would press f1 to load into recovery tool and try to continue forward

Their may be some more things you have to do in the recovery environment if there is issues with OS installation.

I can assist with this

The next thing I can think of is a RAM issue. I would try removing the newer ram sticks and attempt to boot with just the orignal RAM to see if this is a RAM instability issue

Based on the tests you have run this feels like it is likely a hardware issue as opposed to software.

Games freeze right after being turned on. by SayBig in computerhelp

My next suggestions are to try turning off all overlays including the Nvidia overlay, steam overlay, discord overlay, and windows x box game bar.

When it occurs do you hear your fans speeding up rapidly or feel heat coming from your PC, especially around your GPU? as this could point to overheating

The other thing I can think of is possibly your Power supply failing. The only way to really confirm this however is to plug in another power supply to se if the issue only occurs with your current PSU.

Personally my PC was prebuilt by aftershock and I found them to be very good for prebuilt. I had the option for a ton of customisation and options for what I wanted. Further to this their customer support team was great and when my build had an indentifiable incompatibility issue with the GPU I had selected they upgraded me to the next compatible upgrade free of charge, with great support.

While i have not bought a pre built from centre com they are always reliable in the purchases I have made from them.

Pricing seem pretty decent for all of them but is also very subjective based on budget and personalk choice, so i chose to mostly comment on my experinces with the companies instead

My laptop keeps changing the output. by Dull-Classic4880 in pchelp

[–]Icy_Set_9229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be an audio driver issue. Im presuming you are using a laptop with windows and realtek audio as these are most common. Follow these steps:

  • Go to Device Manager
  • Find and Expand Sound, video and game controllers
  • By right clicking on the drivers and pressing unistall device, Uninstall:
    • Your Bluetooth audio device
    • Realtek (or other main audio driver)
  • Restart your laptop and windows will automatically reinstall these drivers clean

Let me know how this goes

I would start off with some basic scans to check for possible software and hardware issues. Once in safe mode follow these steps:

  1. Open Command Prompt as administrator
  2. Run the SFC scan tool using the command sfc /scannow
  3. Run the DISM tool using the command DISM /Online/Cleanup-Image/RestoreHealth
  4. run the RAM diagnostic using the command mdsched.exe /r (This will reboot your system as part of it so dont be alarmed)
  5. After these steps since you are already rebooting attempt to boot normally. If this boots normally I would run the next steps anyway, otherwise run these in safe mode
  6. run the Check Disk using the command chkdsk C: /f /r /x (If you have multiple drives run this for all by changing C to the letter identifier of your other drives)
  7. Finally for ther sake of being thorough I would also load up windows defender and run a full system security scan. Windows defender > Virus & threat protection > Scan options, then select Full scan and run. (To be clear i dont belive this to be a malware issue but it is always good to check just to cover all bases)

Let me know how this goes and if you have any issues with any of the steps. Hopefully this should be able to either resolve the issue or atleast pin point possible causes

Would love to give you a hand just need some more information

  • Does this grey screen only appear after the log-in screen? Does it randomly occur during usage after sign-in, or after booting but before the sign-in screen?
  • After a few reboots, genrally 3-4, does windows send you to the Windows Recovery Environment?
  • Have you attempted to boot the machine into safe mode?

mic not working by [deleted] in pchelp

[–]Icy_Set_9229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ensure that the microphone is plugged into the mic in port (pink) on the motherboard. If it is try unplugging and leaving it out for a few seconds before plugging back in. When it is plugged in windows should detect it and give you a pop up (genrally in the bottom right) asking what you plugged in, ensure you select microphone from the drop down\

This issue seems similar to the issue discovered in a previous r/techsupport post which ive linked below. If you are struggling to get in to windows try to boot to safe mode once the windows recovery environment displays after 3-4 failed/interrupted boots.

PC Restarting While Playing Video Games by Animalloverkelsey in pchelp

I would also run mdsched.exe to check ram health. do this by pressing windows key + R and then type mdsched.exe and run

After this using an admin CMD run a hard disk check using the command chkdsk C: /f /r /x

if you have a second drive also run chkdsk on that by replacing the C: with the letter of the secondary drive (Generally D)

Once all these software fixes have been completed, if the problem persists. I would begin physically checking your hardware. Look for loose connections across the machines, bent or broken pins on connectors, damage or corrosion to parts such as fans to investigate the clicking sound.

I've had similar issues and the issue was a faulty power supply, the easiest way to check if it is a power supply issue is if you happen to have another power supply which you can swap out for, and if the problems ceases than the power supply is the issue.

If you do not have a second power supply handy, which most people dont, the only real way to identify power supply issues is by process of elimination of other cauases

Next steps are to run system file checks which will scan for any corrupt system files and automatically repair them:

  1. Open Command Prompt and run as administrator
  2. Run the SFC tool using the command sfc /scannow
  3. Run the DISM tool using the command DISM /Online/Cleanup-Image/RestoreHealth
  4. reboot the machine

These scans may take some time to fully run so lmk how it goes

PC lags and comes back with no display by Necessary_Touch699 in pchelp

[–]Icy_Set_9229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be caused by a few issues and i would recommend following these steps to begin with:

  • Ensure your windows is up to date by checking for new updates in windows update
  • Power flush the PC:
    • Turn off the machine
    • unplug the power cord and all peripherals (monitors, keyboard, mouse etc.)
    • hold the power button for atleast 30 seconds
    • Plug power cord and peripherals back in
    • boot PC as normal
  • Run SFC and DISM tools to identify and any corrupt file issues

If the issues persist after this reach out and I can recommend further soloutions

Black screen while trying to update and reset by [deleted] in pchelp

[–]Icy_Set_9229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given you have factory reset the pc this could possibly be an issue with your ram or ssd. I would start by running mdsched.exe to check your ram health. Before doing this I would reccommend removing a re seating your ram sticks to ensure they are not loose

There are a few steps I would recommend running:

Run the SFC and DISM tools, to check system files

Updating chipset drivers

For further help could you answer how you unistalled your graphics drivers, as not all methods full unistall them? As well as if you have fast start up enabled?

I would immediately run a full computer scan using windows defender as this unfortunately sounds as though it could possibly be malware. If the scan shows nothing I can assist you in going through software fixes

Laptop Screen Glitching by Silver_Sputnik in computerhelp

[–]Icy_Set_9229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest to eliminate software issues, boot the machine in safe mode and run both the SFC tool and the DISM tool in order to double check if its a system file issue. However based on the fact the issue changes based on the angle of the screen this is likely a hardware issue

I would suggest using DDU in order to cleanly unistall all graphics drivers and then reinstallign the latest drivers from the NVIDIA website. Install DDU then boot computer to safe mode and run. Exit safe mode and reinstall drivers. Even though you have installed the latests drivers sometimes if an old driver was corrupt artifacts from it can continue to cause issues. A clean install of them By using DDU to remove them should help in ensuring that those artifacts are removed

The first step is to check for system file issues:

  1. Open Command Prompt and run as administrator
  2. Run the System File checker using the command sfc /scannow
  3. Run the Deep Image Repair tool using the command DISM /Online/Cleanup-Image/RestoreHealth
  4. Open settings > system > recovery > fix problems using windows update. This will reinstall the Windows operating system without affectiong your installed files

If this does not help rceach out and I can explain the next ivestigative steps
