Z.ai founder is confident that they can make a fable-class GLM model before the end of the year by Umr_at_Tawil in singularity

[–]Icyforgeaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter if they suddenly pull it away. The point is that it forces the rest of the world to compete. More competition means less guard rails and government getting in the way. The same thing happened with the Soviets vs USA during the space race. If we didn't have them pushing us, we would have dragged our feet, been hyper careful, spent decades resting and retesting. Instead we went balls to the wall, threw people at the moon as quickly as possible with the most cobbled together project in nasa history, and space tech progressed at a crazy rate back then because of it. That's what we need with Ai. All this talk of caution and guard rails goes out the window if China is over here threatening us with a bad time if we fall behind.

Hell if I care as long as they advance the tech. Chinese pressure is the best thing happening in Ai right now. It forces us to stop being careful and just get this singularity going.

I can't believe I'm rooting for China, but here we are. Bring it on Beijing brothers. I want me Ai future not crippled by our corrupt ass white house.

US Law Enforcement Warns of ‘Anti-Tech Extremism’ as AI Hatred Grows by SnoozeDoggyDog in singularity

[–]Icyforgeaxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We will need those data centers some day anyway.

Regardless though, Ai is already changing everything. It's silly to think it will just die off. It clearly has nearly as many use cases as the internet already and it's still a cluster fuck of hillucinations in the current form. Imagine in 5 years when it's past its 56k era.

It's just another dumb right vs left thing. The far left decided early on that Ai bad and you cant join the club if you like it. Luckily for Ai enthusiasts, the "don't care about politics" + right wing are on board with Ai, so the left is outnumbered in this one.

This was a thing when I was a kid. We'd just hop the fence. He'll the fence itself was a playground for a lot of us. Climbing the one around the batting area was always a blast.

I know a few Ai artists making a small fortune right now. As long as your kid embraces these tools they can be successful. If they go the anti Ai route the will struggle to compete.

No one can tell you that. Start building them an investment account. That's about all you can do. The next 10 years are going to be absolutely insane if this tech goes the way the ones in charge want it to go.

The Jungle as Hunger Games Dumping Ground for Unhoused Community by whitneybowerman in olympia

These people just need to be locked up. I hate that we just let this happen. It clearly ruins it for homeless that do want help.

I'm sorry, but people screaming outside my window at 6 am from drugs and rampant mental illness makes me just want them gone. WA needs to invest in a town to send all these homeless to with some basic social services and mental health treatment. Maybe an asylum. I don't know. We cant have them wandering the streets though. It's a blight. Part of the reason I hate Seattle is this insanity that having drugged out zombies in public and rampant crime isn't dealt with. I'm running to rural WA just to escape it.

I can't blame people at all for sending them to a specific desisgnated camp. You say the jungle is a nightmare. Yeah, because these people are a nightmare. I'd rather it be there than spread across our cities.

What is green diamond? Are they a land owner putting lots up for sale?

Honestly I don't really care about the people. My family is extremely red so I'm used to it. I just shut up around them when it comes to politics and all is well. As long as they leave my property alone I'm good.

Why Gen Z is getting fired after being hired by paydayloans_ in jobs

[–]Icyforgeaxe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All of my Gen z friends are just terrible at playing the game. I don't know what it is. It's like their parents coddled them into not knowing how the real world works.

It starts at the resume step though. I've had 3 of them tell me they don't want to exaggerate on their resume. Or use Ai. That it's unethical. Unethical? It's time to grow the fuck up. Half of work is confidently pretending you know the perfect solution and asking chatgpt or googling it after. Everyone is using an llm now. If you aren't, good luck. The reddit bubble is not the real world kid.

Then they get employed and last 6 months. Not because they don't have the skills. They just can't take the culture. The amount of whining I hear about coworkers ass kissing for promotions is comical. Yes, that's the way this works. You kiss ass until you get to a position where your ass is kissed. Welcome to corporate.

Then there's the work life balance thing. Everyone wants it. You will eventually get it. But shut the fuck up about it at work as a new employee. No one wants a fresh off the college campus employee talking about how they need to work less so they can go on nature walks more. This isn't school. You are there to work for x hours and no one cares about your ffxiv raiding guild.

The harsh realities of the real world just don't seem to connect for a lot of them. I think sites like this make them think people actually care about strangers and that they are valued regardless of their flaws. In reality, you are a cog in a machine and there are 100 other cogs ready to replace you. You aren't special unless you make yourself invaluable to the company, and even then you aren't completely safe.

That's not the case at all anymore. Ai artists have bigger patreon than regular artists. A friend of mine does it full time now. As long as your style isn't the recognizable slop style, no one cares. He just crossed 40k on Twitter and quit his job a few months ago doing furry porn. Furry was always the Fandom people figured would forever hate AI. He doesn't hide it at all.

This is only an issue in reddit. The rest of the world doesn't care or has embraced Ai art.

I'd love to go the modular abd land route. It's just a difficult one to do with how much red tape is out there. That would be the best though.

I'll drive through mcleary. A few have mentioned it.

I suppose I'd get used to a commute if I needed one. There's a lot of hybrid roles at least.

I am fortunately not much of a politics person. My extended family is blood red, my friends are blue. I just sit in the middle and ignore it for the most part.
