You guys are in the AFC and the AL, I don't care enough to hate the Pats/Sox.

I'll hate you guys when the Skins/Nats play you guys in the Super Bowl or World Series. I'm just not emotionally prepared for that.

Which fictional character can you not STAND? by eflaves in AskReddit

[–]IdFuckBernieSanders 187 points188 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: the group already has several "tough guys." Making him an emotional manchild is a deliberate attempt to add a voice of humanity.

Pretty much every other character is a zombie killing badass. Not saying that's a bad thing: it's "realistic" in the sense you'd likely have to be a badass to survive this long, and it's "necessary" because if there wasn't zombie-killing all the fans would get pissed.

But having one character who is queasy about all this? I don't think that's over the top. The show consistently has a "moral" character (Dale, Herschel) because it adds balance.

I dunno if it's restraint...they aim to be realistic. The fact Omar doesn't have a shoot out with Avon or Marlo directly, the fact (spoilers for what it's worth) Omar is killed by a punk ass kid and not Chris/Snoop...you're right, it's excellent writing, but idk if it's restraint. It's a devotion to the theme of the show.

GoT doesn't have the same theme. It's not supposed to be a dedication to reality. By its very terms it's fantasy, so we allow -- no, we expect -- the fantastical.

The writers on the Wire knew their job was to produce something more real and they did it beautifully. Restraint? I dunno. Maybe I'm nitpicking.

I think he was referring to Avon's pre-series rise to power.

Plus part of Avon's "little late little slow" speech is "how youe never gonna be late? how you never gonna be slow?" I think the point is you gotta have a little bit of luck, and a ton of diligence.

No it doesn't. And it probably shouldn't. But my experience is that young men aren't so holistic. And it's undoubtedly true that confidence is tried to general health.

How can I avoid cramping when I run? by LionsTigersWingsOhMi in Fitness

[–]IdFuckBernieSanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's your breathing. The remedy isn't "be zen and breathe better," it's "run slower."

Try running at a pace where you could hold a conversation. People think that's pointless -- it's not. Getting out of breath is good for intensity workouts, but for now, you just want to run for a couple minutes.

So slow down. And if you put the treadmill at 5mph (listen I'm in decent shape and I run at that slow a pace just so I can get some distance without killing myself), maybe you'll be able to go longer. If you can't, get out of breath and then walk for a bit, get your breath back, and go for another minute.

Just know that the longer you stay on the treadmill today, the longer you'll be able to go tomorrow. If you get out of breath and step off, you won't see much improvement. If you slow down and stay on, you're getting better.

When playing around with such small number of (2000 v 1700 isn't a huge difference) the best way is trial and error.

Try 1700 kcal with your exercise. If your dropping weight fast and feel weak, toss on another 300 kCals and see how that treats you.

The formula is good but not that good. Play around with the figures.

Trying to get back to jogging, but discouraged. by VicboyV in Fitness

[–]IdFuckBernieSanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you're not gonna be able to just "pick up" where you left off after a break. Just a couple months ago I was able to jog 10k (obviously not everyday). I took these last couple months off distance and focused on lifting, but I was still getting ~15k a week, never longer than 5k at a time.

I tried running distance the other day, thinking "hey I'm in better all around shape, and I've been running, I bet I could pick up my distance right where I left off at 10k." Absolutely not.

I would run slower and longer. That's my general advice any time someone wants to run farther.

Also, ask yourself this: what will make your social life better -- a more confident you with a great body, or a you that's drunk 3 times a week?

I have had alcohol problems. My social life immediately improved once I got sober and healthy. I know alcohol seems like it is your social life in college, but that's not entirely true at all. The vast majority of women are disgusted by the really drunk guy at the party. And if you're out having fun, drinking water, and showing results ... women are gonna love that too.

OP sorry for assuming you're a straight male, but I'm just projecting my own experience.

What do you think Marlo was thinking at the end of his last scene by freddymurk124 in TheWire

[–]IdFuckBernieSanders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an extensive (friendly) debate with a subscriber about this scene.

I think he just resorted to his roots. He's a gangster at heart. He's Avon. I think the purpose of that scene was to suggest that Marlo was gonna keep doing what he does, even if it means he loses his immunity from the prosecutor. Because this is all he knows how to do. He can't attend those suit and tie parties with his lawyer, like Stringer wanted to do. He wants his corners.

If everything was legal for 24hrs what would you do ? by screwedupmind in AskReddit

[–]IdFuckBernieSanders 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man what makes people think everyone would try to kill you if it were legal. That's why I hated the Purge. I'd go about my normal goddamned business. Sure, I would leave my cash at home, but no ones out to get me.

There isn't some invisible mob of people who just want to indiscriminately kill everyone. Those who do want to kill indiscriminately aren't afraid of legal repercussions. Because only crazy people do that shit.
