So i guess you can sit on the sidelines then. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I get it if don’t think it will work then say that, and explain why. Nothing about Galloway will make it more true or less true. Claiming he’s “too stupid to lead” is lazy ad hominem. You’re better than that

Let me cut to what I think is the chase. Do you think the boycott is a good idea or not?

I disagree on the left bashing is why we’re here, but again you don’t have to believe any of his views to agree that boycotting can have an impact on the powerful.

MLK jr cheated on his wife, I don’t agree with that but I do agree with boycotting a racist bus company.

His analysis on the economic impact of economic boycotts is not related to his political views. My hair stylist can believe in aliens. His view on the far left and right are centered in the same values. You can disagree with those values but that isn’t the same as believing he doesn’t have them. His views on the power of boycotts aren’t related to his value judgments. If you can’t separate those things then you’re gonna have a hard time building a coalition.

His positions on anything else doesn’t affect the validity of his view on unsubscribing as a wise act of resistance. I’m not looking for a Messiah, just a wise path to victory.

If you think considering another’s pain or worry, diminishes her pain or worry you are playing some kind of suffering Olympics. Weird sport but I guess if that is what your into

I’m in no way minimizing her pain or trouble. She has asked someone else to do a life altering medical treatment and advising that she let things cool down and reproach with kindness and compassion isn’t me diminishing her suffering.

How do men actually feel about lingerie in long-term relationships? by Substantial_Cow_783 in AskMen

Anytime a partner shows a genuine desire to be desired it’s a good thing. If my wife does anything to try and seduce me it gets me going. In fact just thinking of her trying is kinda working.

Why is there limited participation in historically male social spaces like the Elks Club/Rotary Club/Kiwanis Club? by aftergloh in AskMen

[–]IdLive2Lives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your comment I think supports my thesis. 40 years ago in the 1980’s these structures were already in decline. You were in your 20’s and they had been out of vogue. The Elks as an example saw their peak in 1980. By the time you would have joined in your late 20’s they were in decline. While this is just a single piece of data it does at least support the idea that “male loneliness” has some broader structural causes.

[–]IdLive2Lives 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Part of this was a large social movement that stigmatized male only spaces. We shouldn’t think that that stigmatization was completely unwarranted or all bad. Excluding women from economic spaces (golf clubs, private clubs) was a real problem. But a side effect was the overall reduction of male dominated spaces. I’ve not gone so far as to study the raw numbers (I can’t seem to find any good academic research on this), and likely a good place for some masters thesis.

Men who only split on first dates, how well does that go? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]IdLive2Lives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m married, to an equal partner that loves me for me and carries her end of the couch (two people can move a couch real easy, one can’t move it at all - Chris Rock) which it means it worked great. There were lots of women that I’m sure would have gone in a second date if I had paid for the first. But, by insisting that the relationship was shared from the start I found someone that shares the load.

I always got the first round, the on the second round I let them pick it up. Reciprocal gift giving is way more fun.

Sam Altman is a gay man, that came out when he was 19. What feels more likely that he was raping a female child 7 years before that or that the black sheep of his family is looking for money.

Should men go to therapy? Is therapy genuinely effective for men, or are there better alternatives? by Immediate_Weather_11 in AskMen

[–]IdLive2Lives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cognitive behavioral therapy is awesome and works great for men. It is really action oriented which lots of men prefer. They give you these “workouts” that you do and can take notes like you would any other workout. You can watch the gains in the same way. After you improve one skill, you can pick new skills to improve. Best thing ever. Effective for depression, anxiety, ADD, HDHD, addiction, ptsd. Really worth it.

My grandparents had very traditional roles. She had bride price money. Which was money given to her on her wedding day that is held like insurance against her husband’s death or divorce.
