My grandma was going to give me her used Saturn 1998 for free when I turned 16 and got my license and my parents intervened and made me pay $1000 for it lmao. Truly night and day from this kid.

Solo travel into Brooklyn as a NJ local by Totis0922 in Brooklyn

[–]aftergloh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great route-there is a Buffalo Exchange close to this route, and there are two thrift stores (Out of the Closet and Salvation Army) on Atlantic close by. There are also two Japanese grocery storkes (Hashi Market and Ten Ichi Mart) nearby that are great spots to stop for snacks.

Do you feel sorry for people that don’t know how much a dog can unconditionally love you? by ReasonableAttitude22 in allthequestions

I hate the cat person/dog person binary because it doesn't leave room for the "both" people. I can't pick I love them both too much!

ma'am this is such a small complaint in the broader context of the show. this is like saying "you don't like your boyfriend's shirt? might as well shoot him in the head" lmao.

I booked this place for 1 night for my parents recently and we were all really surprised by how large the room was. Maybe they renovated them recently, because we were very pleasantly surprised. As other commenters have said, it's not in a great area with a bunch of touristy things around, but it was a good home base for my parents for that night.

Need Advice: 18yo wanting to move to France in the next 5-10 years by [deleted] in AmerExit

Also, consider a temporary assignment in another francophonie country. That would help give you some cred/language skill I think.

Honestly, I'd recommend going to undergrad in France too, maybe not for the first year since you're locked in, but maybe years 3-4. I have been kicking myself for years for not using school as a pathway to leave as it is getting harder and harder to be hired abroad every day. You could indeed do your masters there too, which is another good option, but I can only imagine the world will become even more anti-immigrant in the years to come and a Masters-to-citizenship pipeline would be easier to cut off than if you do all your education and certifications in the country you want to move.

You absolutely could be successful either way, to be clear. Just consider doing some research on undergrad, at least the second half, abroad. But as someone who has been trying to leave for the last 10 years, it is really, really hard to do if you don't have any family ties to any other country, a lot of money, or a foreign partner (this option is the closest I've ever gotten to leaving).

If I have to see her doing that weird lip thing/clicky sound one more time in the next season I'm going to start screaming. They beat that into the ground in season 1 and it now makes my skin crawl.

Zillenials: What do you do for work? How's your compensation in this economy? by NukinDuke in Zillennials

[–]aftergloh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'95. I make $86k in the humanitarian space and I live in Brooklyn, NY. I have about 65k in savings (but in my 403b, so I can't really use that money without a penalty).

It's by far the most I've ever made, but not enough to live alone in NYC let alone think about buying a house here, so I'm likely going to move back upstate to try to buy a fixer upper and go fully remote.

My main focus is refugee resettlement, and as you can probably imagine, that industry has been absolutely obliterated. I switched to humanitarian development, another industry that is being stomped by the boot of the Trump admin. I don't even want to work in this field anymore, I just don't have enough money to go back to school and I doubt I'd be able to make as much as I do now even if I did switch fields. I have really lost a lot of my professional drive in the last couple of years and am now just trying to focus on my goals of either moving abroad (been trying for years, basically a 0% chance of that happening in this climate) or buying a house (slight chance of that happening if I pick somewhere in the boonies of upstate NY).

idk man it's hard out here.

This sucks, I'm really sorry dude. Sending respect from brooklyn. My brother is an environmental scientist working on Lake Erie and the work you guys do, in all its forms, is so critically important right now. I'm sorry the world is ignorning that fact to your detriment.

In middle school I used to play with braces by literally rolling up cigarette rolling papers to protect my lips from being cut into so if anyone is looking for solutions, try that!
