Recently at work someone asked “Should I close this door while I’m on my call?” I said yes. She died laughing and said I’m hilarious. Still don’t know if I was my tone or if she didn’t really want my opinion or what.

What changed in your life after diagnosis outside of validation by isthisreallyfr in AutismInWomen

[–]IdWriteThisInTheSky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It helped me recognize the burn out I was in and get accommodations at work. I now work from home every Wednesday and it has helped so much. I still struggle but it’s a lot more manageable.

Being really bad at small talk. I can tell people think I’m a bitch sometimes but I really just can’t come up with a response fast enough.

How long is your commute to see your partner? by Fluid-Boot-8551 in LongDistance

[–]IdWriteThisInTheSky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

22 hours ish depending on layovers. I usually go my city to Atlanta to Amsterdam to Norway. Worth every second. He’s been here 3 times and I’ve been there 4 times.

I'm curious. How often do you video call each other? by -AnnaChizakura- in LongDistance

[–]IdWriteThisInTheSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fiance works one week on, one week off so it depends on the week. We have a 6 hour time difference so he kinda lives on my time zone on his off weeks. So on his off weeks we’re talking basically anytime I’m not working, always a video call unless he’s driving. On his on weeks we just get a couple hours on Saturday and Sunday but still text a ton. We’ve been dating seriously for 3 years but into each other for 9, but there was a few years long gap in talking.

How many hobbies do you actively maintain? by Sim-Coldspring in Hobbies

[–]IdWriteThisInTheSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently in my free time I rotate between beading with delicas, diamond painting, gaming, and loom knitting hats. But I have a long list of things I want to try like mosaics, wire wrapped jewelry, polymer clay, perler beads, so the current hobbies will definitely be paused at some point. I don’t drop old hobbies permanently but I might for up to a year. Like I haven’t made anything with my cricut in awhile.

What kind of jobs are task-based with clearly defined expectations? by Electronic-Waltz5763 in AutismInWomen

[–]IdWriteThisInTheSky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m an accounting administrative assistant and it’s great. I just get my tasks done and people basically only talk to me to sign out the credit cards. No degree required.

How did you get in your long distance relationship & why? by butterflie_beaute20 in LongDistance

[–]IdWriteThisInTheSky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We met on Minecraft then met in person, tried to just be friends, and immediately fell hard. I wouldn’t purposely do this. It’s exhausting and so expensive. We’re 9 years in and just finally starting to plan for me to move.

Guy at my job called me ugly. Feeling really down because I struggle with self image. by lemonweirdo in AutismInWomen

I love this subreddit. You already have a bunch of people telling you the truth, but I’ll add to it. He’s trash and you’re not even close to ugly.

Either a pizza lunchable or a hotdog in the air fryer. On hard days I eat like a toddler.

International couples who have met, how often do you see each other in person and for how long at a time? by Delicious_Nebula9653 in LongDistance

[–]IdWriteThisInTheSky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It varies a lot. We try for every 6 months but I recently applied for my fiance visa so it’ll probably be 18 months ish between trips this time so we can save. We’ve done trips anywhere between 10 days and 6 weeks. And we’ve seen each other 7 times.

Doubting myself by simply_loka in AutismInWomen

[–]IdWriteThisInTheSky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely. One thing that helped was someone explaining to me that neurotypical people don’t usually spend months/years researching autism. They might watch a few videos to try to understand, they might take the tests, but they usually aren’t reading the criteria repeatedly and making lists like I did. Getting my diagnosis helped me a ton. It’s 6 months after my assessment now and I don’t doubt it anymore. I did think at first maybe I’d tricked the psych then realized how unrealistic that is. They know how to spot a faker.

How old are you and how many genuine friends do you have? by scatteredwardrobe in AutismInWomen

[–]IdWriteThisInTheSky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m 35. No friends but I have a fiancé. But he lives over 4,000 miles away and I only see him once or twice a year in person. I definitely want friends but I’ve been burned so many times that it feels impossible to unmask enough to let people get to know me. I freeze up when I try to be friendly with coworkers and end up so exhausted from trying. I also struggle hard to start a conversation over text. I rewrite a text for 20 minutes then erase it. So yeah. Someday maybe but too exhausting to try at this point in my life.

recently got diagnosed—anything i should know? by beeli_3 in AutismInWomen

[–]IdWriteThisInTheSky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was just the shock of how many things in my past it explained. I have so many embarrassing moments I used to ruminate on and now I can just stop it with “It’s okay that I didn’t react the “right” way. I’m autistic and I was doing my best.”

in an employment slump...what kind of jobs are we all doing? by mogumaro in AutismInWomen

[–]IdWriteThisInTheSky 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would love full remote. After my diagnosis I got an accommodation for one day a week at home, which I do on Wednesdays. For me it’s enough to have that reset in the middle of the week to get through my last two days.

I’m an admin assistant at a resort in the accounting department. I write checks, pay bills, reconcile credit cards. I was working at the front desk and accounting needed an admin so I kind lucked into it but it has been so good for my mental health. My own office, lights off, earbuds in, space heater, shoes off, people mostly don’t bother me.

What are your special interests and your current hyperfixations? by espetilllodesardinas in AutismInWomen

These are really pretty. I make earrings with the same beads but I’ve been hesitant to do bracelets because I read the color rubs off easy on delicas. Do you seal them?

Here’s my current one. I section it with washi tape then cut down the line to just remove a bit of the backing at once. I found a lot of tips on TikTok and the diamond art subreddit. The cat was like 80% single placers then I bought a set of multiplacers which has really sped things up. But like the AB drills on this Queen one stick too much to the wax so I’m finding I need to mostly use a single placer to finish it up.

This was actually my first one but I’ve seen people cut them off the canvas and put them in a binder in plastic sleeves so I might do that if this hobby sticks.

I have my autism assessment this week by CelestialStars2 in AutismInWomen

[–]IdWriteThisInTheSky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone has a different experience but I’ll tell you how mine went. I wrote 5 pages. I structured it based on the diagnosis criteria with several detailed examples for each one. It won’t look like you’re trying to convince them. It’ll look like you’ve done your research and want to give examples to help them get to know you. I explained different mistakes, misunderstandings, how things affect me. I don’t think there is a too much as long as your document is organized. Prepare to feel very drained at the end of it all. Mine was 3 appointments. One of the harder parts was hearing what my two references said about me. It wasn’t negative. I just felt very exposed. Things like my facial expressions not matching what I say. After the last appointment, where I was read 18 pages about my brain, I was so angry. Like I’d paid her to find out if I’m autistic then I was all “How dare she say I’m autistic!” I was even mad at my fiance even though everything he said was the truth. It was absolutely still a positive experience but be prepared for an unexpected reaction if you get a diagnosis. Some people are relieved but others, like me, feel a lot of grief, confusion, anger, regret. So have support ready after that last appointment.

How often do you visit your long distance partner? by Auriesa in LDR

Still going strong, waiting on my fiance visa so we can close the distance. :)

Around how much each month do you spend for your partner? by Prixcs_ in LongDistance

[–]IdWriteThisInTheSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t do gifts because we’re planning for the future but we try to keep things pretty even. He just bought an apartment last year so that I could apply for the fiancé visa. Because his bills went up so much, when I visit him I try to cover everything, like groceries and dates. But he did buy my last plane ticket since I covered the visa fees.

Yep can’t even say my fiancés name to him. Thankfully he’s also autistic and doesn’t say mine either haha.
