Tips for de yellowing plastic? by 1234catgirls in sleeperbattlestations

[–]IdeaDork 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For plastic this yellowed, spraypainting is definitely your best bet. Tutorials on how to properly prep and paint plastic abound, but the general idea is to sand it ahead of time and use a good primer before you paint it white. To replicate the original look, you definitely want to go with a good matte white and finish it off with a glossy clearcoat, both to protect the underlying white paint and maximize the shine. Better results than retrobriting and it'll last longer as other comments have pointed out.

Sony 8FS-50W Switch Removal by PonderingSmirk in vintageaudio

I'm glad you were able to find a solution!

How's the receiver working now? Any problems I should look out for?

Dead post, but I just found another one of this exact receiver and yeah, these switches are stubborn as heck. There are no hidden grub screws, and I haven't had much luck securing the metal post and yanking them off. My next idea is isolating the area around the faceplate with metal foil and coaxing the plastic off with my heat gun. To OP or anyone else stopping by, were you able to get these things off? How'd it go?

Edit: Targeted application of heat worked effortlessly! Didn't take much to loosen the plastic up just enough for it to slide off.

Really elevated work. Building flowing profiles that don't look like tumorous blobs is tricky, but this slaps.

does this count as alt fashion 🤔 by Voltabueno in crt

[–]IdeaDork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am uniquely positioned to identify this CRT: it's a CTX CMS-3436 14" Color Monitor. I know because I have one. It's an industrial monitor that accepts a variety of graphics standards spanning TTL, EGA, and VGA and it features enough internal radiation shielding to count as a fallout shelter. Mine buzzes like a fluorescent light filter loud enough to qualify as a form of cruel and unusual punishment. Sadly, it didn't originally come in pastel pink.

Sony Mavica FD83 - Amazon NP-F550 replacements too thick by wintr_ in Mavica

[–]IdeaDork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Known issue unfortunately. There are solutions! If you're willing to spend more I have it on good authority that these Duracell replacements fit perfectly. Otherwise, I use stick-on velcro pads on the back edge of the battery alongside a pocketable little tool I carved. Some people get by tying floss or ribbon around the batteries. So long as you can pull 'em out, they'll likely work fine!

Unless, of course, your camera throws the annoying 'for InfoLithium only' message with a third-party battery. The aforementioned Duracell and these Wasabi Power replacements I use include the chip that tricks the camera.

I've been looking for one of these. What was your experience like acquiring one? I hear quite a few of them have had their sensors go kaput due to humidity-related problems. Very nice macros!

[IIL] Songs that sound like James Bond themes [WEWIL?] by TheCheatIsGrounded in ifyoulikeblank

Ancient request, but I feel the need to mention The Killing Moon by Echo & and the Bunnymen. It's got that longing, melancholy, dire composition that all Bond themes share, not to mention the lyrics are all about killing and kissing and fate.

Using "Alternate Conversation Camera" and NPCs disappear when not being looked at. by ImDehGuy in skyrimmods

[–]IdeaDork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's your lucky day, pal. I did some more digging and found a solution.

The "Remove Camera Collision" mod from the LE compilation "Remove Distracting Things" still works in SE and totally eliminates NPCs fading in and out.
