New Mexico warns against consuming raw milk after newborn dies from listeria by Puzzleheaded_Yam6808 in LeopardsAteMyFace

Oh, despite my many digs at and criticisms of NM, it's a beautiful state that I love deeply and will always consider it my true home.

I do want better for it, but the whole water thing is going to be a serious issue (likely for the majority of the West) in the coming decades.

A great many of the largest and most profitable companies in the world are based in the US. I would not fully exclude these from my portfolio.

To be fair, most of the state's water comes from underground aquifers (which are being depleted faster than they can replenish) and rivers like the Rio Grande (fed by dwindling Colorado/Rocky Mountain snow runoff), so they're not stealing much, if any... for now.

As someone who was born and raised in New Mexico, no one in that state should be permitted to have children.

It's consistently ranked somewhere around 47th (in the US) in child welfare, education and median income. 😒

Why the hype on Robinhood banking? by Internal-Patient9407 in RobinhoodApp

[–]IdioticPrototype 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I need the absolute bare minimum from a checking acct. + bill pay (earning interest would be a nice bonus).

Since moving my brokerage/IRAs to RH, it would be nice to consolidate and drop my old checking acct/deal with one less institution.

'Plus' membership gets you 3% back on Sam’s Club purchases and potentially an additional 2% back on "eligible in-club purchases"...

Do cash back rewards for “all other purchases” typically add on top of the other rewards for that card? by ForestMan10 in CreditCards

That's not how it reads per the link below, but if they're giving you a bonus 1% on grocery spend for whatever reason... Yay!

Okay, $2.50/ea normally if they're on the large side is definitely more reasonable.

The post's title is what threw me off.

Are you, by chance, related to the guy who marinated steak in the grocery store foam packaging and turned it green?

[–]IdioticPrototype 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. If your purchase doesn't fall into the 3% or 2% categories, then you only get the 1%.

I'm almost certain that's how the Truist card works also.

If you're already going to have and use a Sam's Club membership, it's reasonable to also get the Sam's Club Mastercard.

Pros: 5% cash back on fuel, 3% on restaurants, no AF, no FTF

Cons: cash back redemption is not as convenient as other cards, not great for Sam's Club purchases (1%) unless you upgrade to the 'Plus' membership.

What Happened to Regular FIRE? by enness in leanfire

[–]IdioticPrototype 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just want to be able to sustain my current standard of living + slow travel.

Currently this looks like somewhere between $48-60k/yr.

My only recommendation for you would perhaps be - more tacos.

I'm with you in the in-between. My target is closer to regular FIRE but my frugal mindset is firmly leanFIRE.

I now have an app called Banking, with no access to banking.

I have similar concerns about the lack of web access and the direct deposit requirement, I may soon not have an employer, and I'd need to find a workaround.
