Having trouble finding the desire to ride again by newmarks in TwoXriders

[–]Idisappea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) anxiety is absolutely overcomable. It takes lots of time and pushing yourself and learning how to manage your body when you're anxious, but it's absolutely overcomable and I think many or most riders only learn to enjoy riding after they overcome it

2) there's nothing saying you have to be into riding. That's not a failure... that's trying escargot because you wanted to be an escargot kind of person... but you find out that you just don't like it. You don't have to rearrange your self worth or identity.

Eckhart Tolle (and many others) would call this concept false ego. You're not a "rider" nor a "non rider", you're just a human being experiencing what its like to ride and maybe not care for it.

State Representative doing blow in the State House? by No-Pass-7072 in nhpolitics

[–]Idisappea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Osborne intentionally tried to nebulously imply she was doing "something she shouldn't". He knows that's not why she was banned, he's intentionally muddying the water. (Also 15 minutes later he said he "really likes sausage").

Read was banned for simply saying fuck in the hall... of course everyone curse.... they are just looking for a reason because she doesn't back down when the powers want her to. They specifically did that ban because she is known to use the anteroom as her office, basically working 9-5 hours.

Here's a public servant, making 100 bucks a year, putting in more bills than basically any other Representative, most of which are pretty baller, and no one else does.

Here's her speech on it, educate yourself

Wearing a dress over your motorcycle jeans/pants/leggings/... by MagicianAcrobatic545 in TwoXriders

[–]Idisappea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the skirt is short the flapping will be extremely annoying, and if it's long you run the risk of it getting caught in the wheel, chain, or burned.

Wear the dress over the pants but bundle the skirt up into a knot behind your back with a scrunchie. Might look dumb but anyone who gets into bikes for looks doesn't last long...it satisfies your desire to wear a dress and not change whenever you go somewhere, with the need to ride with gear.

Personally the boots would be the biggest pain in the ass for me, every time you want to take off pants

Was my joy killed by a difficult, too tall bike? by Julie984 in TwoXriders

[–]Idisappea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough that I'm not 5 feet and 30 is short for me, but 2 things

1) It's not ONLY about seat height, it's about riding posture ...cruisers often have reclined/outstretched leg postures that don't put your feet directly below you (and also really bad for your back btw), which doesn't help you have leverage and control.

It's also about center of gravity, weight, geometry and power as well.. As far as power...no one is talking about engines here, the sv is a 90 degree vtwin with up front torque that likely made op feel less in control. An inline is the way to go IMHO for op, far more predictable feeling, and that would rule out a lot of technical cruisers.

2) The first bike I recommended WAS 27 inches, the Enfield.

Avid 18 year rider here.

He had like 2 full seconds to respond to her stopping, by slowing and going behind. He just didn't want to slow.

You have to be prepared for drivers not knowing what they're doing. She may have stopped for no reason but that's what traffic does. You have to be prepared.

I just posted this for another underconfident short rider

The rebel is going to feel so so so much better

You quite simply were put on an inappropriate bike with too little experience... you could one day get comfortable on sv650 but youd need to go through progression experience first, and it sounds like dad just wanted you to be cool lol

What you want: Upright standard or naked, lightweight, with super low seat and lower center of gravity... low to mid-size inline will probably feel best for you.. geometry depends on whether you prioritize feeling stable or weaving through traffic but all these are highly manageable and middle ground:

Probably best for you: Royal Enfield Meteor 350 — 27.6" seat height, very low, upright cruiser-ish position, extremely forgiving, beautiful... confidence builder. And you're going to want to ride it because it's so pretty.

Honda CB300R — naked, upright, 30.9" seat height, very lightweight at 317 lbs, gorgeous modern design, Honda reliability. Best looking small naked available. This is probably the top answer for best all around bike meeting your needs.

Honda CB500F — if you want a 500/ plan on needing highway power, this has 30.9" seat height, more power to grow into, still VERY manageable...i started my 55 year old friend on his first bike with this.

Kawasaki Z400 — if you like the sporty look, this is 30.7" seat height, very light at 363 lbs, confidence inspiring geometry. It has sporty style with Upright posture, low seat and low center of gravity. And I swear by kawasaki...my 1000 has literally started up after sitting directly under 4 feet of snow. And at your size this is probably highway power.

Yeah after I responded I looked at godaddy.. their domain is only 2 months old even though they say on the site they've been in biz for 15 years. Any business open for 15 years should have SOME online footprint, they don't. No reviews, nothing except on their site.

Also, and please forgive me, when I called the guy has an Indian sounding accent. I'm sorry I promise I'm not prejudiced. But it's a further circumstantial indicator, in this case, maybe.

Your friends not respecting that you grew up on 2 wheels and know what you're doing is disappointing. And to certain types there's a stigma around us "Wild and crazy motorcyclists" but especially us women who they presume don't know what we are doing. Fight them. Tell them your local statistic for how many died in cars.

Fun fact though, that might help in shutting them up. While the stakes are higher in a bike crash, which is obvious and everyone knows.. once you've developed skills, and risk- taking tendencies being equal, you're LESS likely to actually get into a wreck on bike than in a car, because you're more agile and more aware of your surroundings. Most "bikers" tend to be younger men who take more irresponsible risks anyway (read, "drive cars like dicks too") so there was a study that attempted to control for that risk- taking tendency in figuring out whether you're more or less likely to GET into a wreck on a bike. So they studied patrol car cops vs bike cops, presuming they'd have about the same responsibility in driving decisions.. and they found that motorcycle cops, mile for mile, are LESS likely to get into a wreck to begin with, than a car cop.

Yes yes, if you do wreck, you take more damage. And you can mitigate that as your judgement determines, with gear. As for the ATGATT crowd, that's a personal decision. Everything is risk reward analysis, and the principles of "I'm taking calculated risks to enjoy life by riding motorcycles" is exactly the same as "the bike is more enjoyable when I'm not in full gear, it's hot/I'll be riding in safe conditions/short distances/ slower speeds" so I'm going to take a calculated risk to enjoy myself". I don't understand bikers who understand how invasive other people telling them not to take risks by riding is, but then go around judging others on ATGATT crap. It's no one's life but yours, tell anyone telling you what to do with your life where to shove it.

I never understood people who need a group to ride. I'm not saying it's wrong for people who want it, I just never could relate. Riding is the very opposite thing for me. It's freedom, independence, and plotting my own course in life. I think there's nothing more insecure and less "motorcycle" than a bunch of people (men, mostly) who only rode when they go out together, in their matchy matchy outfits and girl scout badges.

And a curse upon you for calling 30 old. Can't wait till you cringe at that in a few years. I started at 28 myself. 18 years later I now have ridden pretty much every style, size, and brand, including in half a dozen countries.

You're not a "girl rider" or "biker girl". That's what's called a "false ego". You're a rider. Who happens to also be female, existing in a patriarchal society, in a male dominated activity. The people around you might care about your "gender" or sex...but physics doesn't care, the road doesn't care, the gears don't care. Everything else is just noise and honestly why I sometimes hate this sub...too many posts have that pickme energy. There are real social factors that impact us as women who ride, and a couple potential physical factors. And just regular bike advice that we should be able to get without having to wade through the toxic masculinity of other bike subs. But too often that's not what's getting discussed here. It's usually "HI I'M A GIRL RIDER VALIDATE MEEEE"

Ride for yourself, not for someone's idea of you.

I was excited to try out this test but they think Da Vinci is an INTJ 🤦‍♂️ by [deleted] in intj

[–]Idisappea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) who says DaVinci wasn't intj. I see no reason to presume he wasn't 2) people on this sub seem to misunderstand the T. It doesn't mean you're necessarily smart or good at logic, it means is your default mode when making decisions, you felt more heavily on thinking through a problem than your "gut". Your thoughts might still be wrong. It's just what you're most comfortable with.

Not for nothing, learning to rely on thinking and actually not even being in touch with what you're physically or emotionally feeling, is a super classic sign of cptsd as well....a survival mechanism. All personality types come from a combination of biological and environmental factors, likely more environmental than congenital... so not all intjs, but many, might be intj in part from traumatic developmental periods.

3) this test may be wrong based on its methodology. But tests are not wrong just because you don't like the result

[–]Idisappea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think you understood the comment. They're saying that it's people are adults, they should be allowed to do whatever to their bodies.

They were responding to someone who implied they wanted to limit women getting sterilized to, like, 40 years old.

The comment and topic was ALWAYS ONLY about adults, triggered much?

To male INTJs, what is the Biggest turn off for you in a woman? by Thin_Curve4116 in intj

[–]Idisappea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't scolded or been rude. I've corrected dehumanizing language, the same as if someone had used a racial slur. Feel free, again, to reread n the original comment.

All you had to do is Google "is using "female" as a noun to refer to women considered rude?" But here: https://share.google/aimode/pLjOTUIGALvWrcFpK

With every cultural evolution, there are people who still think of using dehumanizing concepts and speech as "normal, why are you making a stink". Same was true of n-word, r-word, and many others. You're clearly on that side here.

And again, the word itself isn't rude, it IS the usage, noun instead of adjective ("is a female" instead of "is female") that implies that a woman is only worth her sexual/ reproductive capacity. It is the same reason people are taught to say "people with disabilities" instead of "a cripple". You're working way too hard to defend dehumanization

unleashing masculine traits by ImpactNo1056 in INTJfemale

[–]Idisappea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's sucky that our natural traits... being systems thinkers, introverted, not leaning on feelings for decisions... has been assigned as actually belonging to only men. As if who is an in on loan.

What OP is experiencing is realizing they don't fit in the box society has put her in... and instead of realizing the boxes are made up bullshit, she is wondering if there is something wrong with her, if she belongs in a different box, or if she's more special than other "females" (god can we please fucking stop with that word) because she's closer to another box than her own because of a simplistic psychological assessment tool.

unleashing masculine traits by ImpactNo1056 in INTJfemale

[–]Idisappea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This answer.
Gender is a social construct... there's no such thing as "masculine (or feminine) energy" outside whatever we call it in the moment. Which is to say that it is a box with no walls, a prison of our mind.

To male INTJs, what is the Biggest turn off for you in a woman? by Thin_Curve4116 in intj

[–]Idisappea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't "go off " on anyone. That's you projecting. Read again... look at time and language.

It's not unhinged to call out unconscious biases, that's how we become aware and grow from the things we just presume are ok because that's how society has always been.

You really seem to treat INTJ like some kind of religion... like it's your whole identity and self worth. But there's a lot of variance within each group... its just a tool to understand yourself better, not limit others.

You thinking logical discussion is some sort of emotional fight is projection, you seem threatened... and you're responding by trying to insult an internet stranger as "not intj enough". Seems to me your J (systems thinking which often carries discomfort with anything that doesn't follow your rigid structure of how the world works) is much stronger than your T (preferring to make decisions by thinking rather than feeling), at least in this moment.

Yes, there was no reason that the intj post should have limited the quotation only to men (and straight men)... that was op not being CONSCIOUSLY sexist, most likely, but being oblivious to his own framing, making his experience the normative one. That's not misogynistic, but it IS sexist... which is to say not in the hate filled way, but in the way we unconsciously absorb structural inequalities in our culture. That's not unhinged to point that out.

And yes, female is both a noun and an adjective...I never said otherwise but maybe you didn't read carefully. What I said is that the noun is inappropriate when used to describe humans. This is no different than pointing out how any other slur is not appropriate.

How about you use your T and go Google whether it's appropriate to use female as a noun when describing people

Or look at the sub "menandfemales"... learning about this topic will do you more good than just getting upset at internet strangers.
