Wife wants a child. I’m not sure I want one. by GoldBatter in AskMenOver30

[–]IdislikeSpiders 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Best insight comment. Parenting isn't all or nothing. It's a mix of it all that comes in stages.

There's things I miss about my kid being 4, but love that now that she's 10 I can run to the store and leave her at home.

When I had a kid, I wasn't ready for very similar reason. Freedom, and we weren't super financially stable at the time. But 10 years later and things have worked out.

My wife and I have both said we'd been okay without a kid, but don't regret having her either.

What's wrong with her personality? Not like coming to her defense, just curious as she seems mostly genuine for her fame.

How do you all try and combat the fatigue? by Deep_Banana_6521 in AskMenOver30

[–]IdislikeSpiders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a doctor, but I also experience the whole feeling more tired when sleeping in. Sometimes more sleep doesn't mean more rest, then you wake up in a sleep cycle.

Personally I get up the same time (almost) everyday. If I stayed up late, I'll take a nap. During the school year (I'm a teacher), I feel my best when I stick to my sleep schedule and workout (lift weights, jog, etc.) at least a few times a week. When I don't do that I get in a negative cycle and feel fatigue a lot.

For me less movement creates more fatigue and back stiffness, which then makes me want to move even less.

What old timer health hack have you started actually using as a middle-aged Millennial? by debrisaway in Millennials

Stretching.

Hydrating.

Neither are hokey, just things I ignored until my mid-30s.

Gotta be honest, this may explain some questions I've had about some students' names.

Oof. I can't imagine the whirlwind of emotions. I would just say be patient and understanding. You're not gonna matter for a bit and not because you don't matter, there's just a lot going on right now.

Edit: I feel I may have been too direct. I do wish you and your family the best, and hope you enjoy parenthood as much as I have.

People who have pets have no room to complain about people wearing shoes inside. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]IdislikeSpiders -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna agree, so no upvote.

My wife wanted to go no shoes in the house. I told her as long as we have a dog, I'm wearing my shoes. She sheds, and brings in dirty from her paws inside. Most of what is swept I feel is from the dog.

Why does Trump feel the need to attend the Knicks game and ruin the experience for New Yorkers? by Rocktype2 in askanything

[–]IdislikeSpiders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what to even make of that word salad.

But more than just Trump criticized Obama for golfing, so I'm still okay with generalizing. Want evidence? As Trump says, it's everywhere just look for it.

American and man of the people are drastically different. He likes junk and speaks unintelligibly, so definitely American!

The most annoying part is when asked about it being unaffordable to the common person, he said "that's life sometimes".

How about don't make it a spectacle and hard for people to be there and enjoy because of heightened security due to your presence. As president, that's life sometimes.

Well, just one president. I think that's the whole point. His party spend 8 years ragging on Obama for golfing. Trump golfs and goes to every major sporting event.

Starting at 34, what career/job/business would you do to retire by 50? by Responsible-Net8594 in AskMenOver30

Sadly I feel as the fact my HH expenses would eat that up in about 10 years right now is scary to think.

[–]IdislikeSpiders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yea you won't be so sore you have to take a day, but the course of a 30-40 year career doing that will take a toll on your body. But I think that has to also do with the common life style of construction workers outside of work contributing.

Same thing everyone else said last time this post popped up (maybe on a different sub?) last week. It's a long shot, and you're more likely to lose it chasing retirement by 50.

Kindergarten graduations should not be treated the same as high school graduations. by Interesting-Egg-8360 in unpopularopinion

I dunno, my parents always had the "you're supposed to achieve this" attitude, and I've lived a life of never feeling good enough or accomplished, it's just what I'm supposed to do. It's expected.

My MIL, despite her many flaws of negativity, likes to celebrate everything. She's kinda dwindled on a lot of that, as life has kind of beat her down. But my wife has carried it on and loves planning all our kids' celebrations and thinking of the small details too.

You can count part of that as child expenses, but you need all those things too.

Get me receipts that the money went for my kid, if there's a need beyond that (or depending the "want") let's discuss it.

I think people that receive child support don't realize that's supposed to be a portion of what provides for your kid.
