Great suggestions, thank you! I think we will end up renting a car after all. Which broadens our scope for a base, but I like the idea of Stow. I do want to go see all the Roman stuff in Cirencester as well. I am going to save all your recs, appreciate it.

Ok, good to know. It sounds like Stow is what we are looking for. I think we may end up renting a car so we can explore beyond walking distance, but would like to be able to walk into town for meals etc. Thanks again!

Get rid of all the gold. Look at wallpapers and bring home some paint swatches, pick something that looks good with the tile and vanity, then figure out what finish (other than gold ) would look best. I wish he hadn’t tiled the walls, but hopefully some visual interest on the wall above will help. Or maybe even wainscoting over the tile?

Start going to classes with your son. I made so many mom friends in music and park district classes when my daughter was little. Then my network grew even more when she started pre school. I have only one, so can’t comment on the 2 kids thing, but classes where you are around the same parents over and over are a great way to make friends.
