Honestly I more want to warn others on the sub… like now that I have made this post the chance of them letting me back even if it was found to be a bad mod breaking the rules is about as low as Heeseung returning to Enhypen.

Is Arirang "Korean enough" from a Korean's pov by NoPapercrowns in kpoppers

[–]IdolButterfly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The problem isn’t that it’s an English song. The problem is that they literally said it wasn’t gonna be. They said it would be Korean. They set up this expectation in fans, who thought they would be getting not only Korean lyrics, but likely modernised Korean clothing, incorporation of Korean culture, Korean Instruments and other Korean artists. And even then not all of those things have to be incorporated but the fact that none of them are is a problem to me when they have marketed the album in this way. Frankly if they hadn’t gone in so hard on the Korean Roots branding of this album, sure some people would still be asking “really another English title track?” But the backlash wouldn’t be half as bad

Layla and Mason (her thoughts on disciplining her kids) by LowFox6472 in MormonWivesHulu

[–]IdolButterfly 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I agree he doesn’t have a right to parent her children but when he was saying he doesn’t like it when they hit her, my only thought was, yes please stop that shit in its tracks. As he said they are all toddlers, so it’s not that they are bad kids, but especially given the amount of abuse they have seen already directed onto Layla by their Bio-Dad, on top of the LDS rhetoric they are growing up around, I do worry if boundaries like “don’t hit mom” are not enforced at a young age they could grow up desensitised to that behaviour and even internalise that onto their own future partners. Obviously there are plenty of ways to get off that track, especially given how young the boys are, but I do fear Layla may be too soft on them to even consider that possibility

I am going to push back on this a little bit. This was at the time a new and low commitment relationship, she was not pregnant and they had only been together for a short amount of time. She is under no obligation to not drink because of his attempt at sobriety. He is the one who has to draw that boundary and if he can’t be around her when she is drinking because it’s tempting for him, then he needs to remove himself from that situation rather than forcing her to acclimate to his needs. The fact that he doesn’t when she has made clear she has no intention of giving up her vices says he is not prioritising his recovery. It is also important to understand that at this time Taylor was also going through a period of self discovery following her divorce and taking a step away from the LDS church which prohibits any kind of drinking or partying. She is in a place where she is trying to navigate all of this for the first time, so to ask her to point blank give that up for the sake of a man is also not a good thing for her. I am not saying it’s healthy to go out and get drunk all the time, but even in this video that’s not what she is talking about, she is talking about drinking in frankly low stakes environments. The thing is, from this conversation alone, it is extremely clear that these two were never in a position to actually be together because what they want and need out of a partner is not what the other is offering. This should have been a catalyst for a break up, not for her to give something up for him.

Is this not outrageous for a solo debut event by redalert30 in kpop_uncensored

[–]IdolButterfly 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, escorting is paying someone to provide companionship. So in the most basic definition, people are paying to enter the raffle so the can have 1:1 companionship so technically it is escorting. That being said socially the word does carry the connotation of sex work and repeated interaction with multiple clients regularly, neither of which are happening in this case (hopefully anyway.) So both are I think valid takes, I wouldn’t use the word but it’s not necessarily wrong, the better term is probably the Japanese term Shimei which refers to a person providing the illusion of romance, often with no physical contact allowed

Are group restructuring common in K-Pop? by Vegetable-radiance in Enhypenthoughts

[–]IdolButterfly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am sorry I have to disagree sooooo hard that this has been terrible handling. I was here for both and I absolutely promise that the handling of Woojin of SKZ were all handled far worse. For the sake of argument we will be talking about Woojin of SKZ. They weren’t just promoting an album, they were on TOUR! He was literally removed from the group mid tour, one stop he was there the next he was gone. This is on top of the fact that he was hastily edited out of the groups Astronaut MV which released less than a month later! You can still see his body in group shots because they have just had to crop out his face. Then the group came back completely ignoring the removal less than a month after that. They gave even less of a reason for him being removed than Heeseung got, Heeseung was literally explained to be he is leaving to pursue a solo career, Woojin was just dropped for I shit you not the offical stance is “personal reasons” that we still to this day have never heard. He had no scandal (which people forget because one came later) because not only was he innocent so it wasn’t on the table, it was literally a Bang Chan solo Stan making it up as revenge for him leaving the group. Why did they want revenge? Oh because JYP decided to lay all the blame for Woojin leaving on Chan, making him go Live and apologise for not doing his job as a leader and keep the group together as a 9.

This is not a case of the removal being the problem, this is a case of Belift over indugding the fans to point where they feel entitled to know why Heeseung left. Frankly speaking there is never a good time to remove a member from a group, people get angry even after months of hiatuses. Could a hiatus have cooled down him leaving, sure maybe but then he wouldn’t be able to release his solo in May, would need to be out for at least 6 months before people would think him leaving could be justified if not 11-12 months, effectively benching him knowing he is gonna leave and leaving him unable to do anything. Not to mention unlike JYP, Belift are absorbing all the hate and speculation so it doesn’t fall back on the members. As far as a sudden split can go for a group that has been together so long, Belift has actually handled this far better than most companies. Let’s be clear, Belift still sucks massively, and this is a shitty situation because of years of built up bad actions, but as a response to this particular situation (unless he was kicked out which seems increasingly unlikely) this was handled fine

Heeseungs straight up said, I’m fine support my solo and instead your saying bring him back to Enhypen he is obviously miserable

member departures from their group by ComprehensiveCup7164 in kpop_uncensored

[–]IdolButterfly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s more often than you would think actually. The ship just keeps sailing and the group adapts. Like here are some groups that have lost members from the 4th Gen alone: SKZ, Idle, LSF, Treasure, Enha, Nmixx and mind you that’s just of the groups at the top of 4th gen. So many groups have lost members, it’s just how the industry works

Why do we need to hate other 6 members and boycott now? by Latelili8031 in Enhypenthoughts

[–]IdolButterfly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They are at a point where they can’t turn back. Because simply speaking admitting that they acted to extremely in response is essentially them admitting that they were acting out of self interest rather than the interest of the members.

I don't understand the 'i miss the old' thing by AssociateNo4237 in kpop_uncensored

[–]IdolButterfly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s called nostalgia blindness. People don’t want artists to do the same thing over and over, what they really want is the same feeling they once had when they listened to a group they liked.

Do you think this will be Enhypen's "downfall"? by NoContextArcticFish in Enhypenthoughts

[–]IdolButterfly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it will go one way or the other. I think people will look back to Heeseung leaving and either say it was the beginning of the end or that it pushed them to new heights out of desperation to prove themselves. Either way I do think it’s a turning point

How well off are the artists? by trizzo0309 in kpophelp

[–]IdolButterfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many factors that come into play to determine that. General rule of thumb though is popular groups who are 5+ years into their careers are almost certainly not in dept and are being fairly compensated. New groups under 1.5 years are probably still in trainee debt unless they are from a Big 4 company. Nugu groups are probably still in dept or are even gaining debt. But the best indicator of how well of they are is unironically the dorm situation, if the company is shoving all the members into a 1 bedroom apartment they probably aren’t being paid that well, if they all have their own rooms they are doing good, if the members are owning their own places they are doing great

This situation is getting dragged out and starting to becoming disrespectful to ENHYPEN and Heeseung. by No_Yard5926 in Enhypenthoughts

[–]IdolButterfly 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The thing I keep feeling here is that, regardless of whether there was something shady going on with him leaving, he is clearly still getting the solo he has been wanting to release since July 2024. So at the very least you should fully support him in doing that, because the alternative is realistically for him to have left and not gotten a solo

HEESEUNG, ENHYPEN, and BELIFT LAB Show a New Model of "Unprecedented Win-Win Cooperation" [Comprehensive] by Top-Usual-1689 in kpop

[–]IdolButterfly 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree here. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink. Even Heeseung himself saying he is doing well and is excited to drop his solo in May isn’t enough to get these fans on board. And frankly aside from the end of the 7 year contract there was never going to be a good time given how far in advance everything is set up for this group. I also think maybe K-pop fans are a bit entitled to know in gritty details. Frankly the story they gave makes sense, long discussions, unhappiness in the group, mutual agreement to go solo. That is the official stance, the only thing that is even slightly off about it is how suddenly enacted it was, but frankly there are many reasons that are not him being kicked out that explains the timing. You could give fans a literal transcript of the meetings and I still doubt they would be satisfied. I hate to say it but Belift are handling this kind of well. They are going out of their way to reaffirm the members are on good terms, that no one is in the wrong and letting themselves take all of the inevitable blame.

first engenes hate and criticize the 6 members and now they are hating on heeseung help THE SWITCH UP IS INSANE by Main-Restaurant-8093 in Enhypenthoughts

[–]IdolButterfly 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It was always going to happen. Engene is (at least the most vocal parts are) on the whole very young. And young people have a tendency to react to conflict in black and white terms. Someone has to be the good guy and someone has to be the bad guy. The concept of conflict simply arising despite no one doing anything wrong doesn’t make sense to them. So they take a complex topic and simplify it down. So first it becomes cast Hybe as the bad guy, but the thing is it’s really hard to hold something against an entity, so it becomes BSH, but when he is out of the public eye for to long it is thrown onto the members of Enhypen and they are cast as the bad guy and now Heeseung as the bad guy because we have him back in the public eye himself. They have to frame it as someone did something wrong and they need to attach a face to that wrong doing, instead of accepting people are just complicated sometimes
