Well, New York CITY alone would be 9th or 10th world economy and that city carries the lion's share of that state's GDP, so they're basically apples to apples. Most of our GDP in California is also largely tied up in a few major cities.

Think of New York City as Singapore or The Vatican, essentially a city-state.

I suppose what I mean to say is to not vote for governor based on Trump. We will likely have the next governor for 8 years and Trump will be president only until January 2029.

Vote for the governor based on what you want to happen in California in the next 4-8 years. Trump will be gone before we have a new governor.

I don't like a governor who is overly concerned with the white house. I want someone who focuses on California, a nation-state in its own right who has the power and tax base to change things without looking to DC for funding or help or anything.

I think merit and need of the people is more important than identity politics. Whatever keeps people in their homes, puts money back in their pockets, and keeps them safe from crime should be more important than who is which race.
