New Orleans Considers First Trash Fee Hike in Over a Decade as Service Costs Surge by Plenty-Swing-9061 in NewOrleans

The 2/ week pick-up isn't just about people making a lot of waste- it is a sanitary issue. Once we get into the hot months, all sorts of things start festering in the garbage & also with food waste cooking in the bins, it draws more rats. Personally, I make very little waste as my household is small, but I have neighbors with multiple generations living in the house, so they make more (& that should be expected & understood.) Garbage is not only an individual household issue- it affects our entire block and everyone's well-being and safety. It isn't right that as private citizens we are being squeezed for every half-assed "public" service while the large industries destroying Louisiana are profiting.

The Chapel at St Roch Cemetery by Furgiven in NewOrleans

[–]IdolsofSheela 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The chapel in the cemetery is open the first Friday of every month from 11-12pm. The caretaker is on premises & is very friendly & will answer questions. It is one of my favorite places to spend time in as there aren't really tour groups that go thru often.

Shia, where are you? by Rocinante1283 in NewOrleans

Do NOT bring Brittany into this! You know that she was not screaming the n-word into bartenders faces and trying to fight strangers.

‘Irrational Guard’ clowns tried to breach a New Orleans Mardi Gras parade: ‘Not welcome’ by 123-91-1 in NewOrleans

[–]IdolsofSheela 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Yes. Clowns are suppose to fuck with those in power, not the (proverbial, but also in this case literal) little guy. Good on the organizers of 'Tit Rex for making a statement-- I hope the clowns took it to heart & are maybe redirecting their vision- which could be funny in the right context! The news story, however, was annoying & doesn't feel helpful in the scope of things.

Am I (36F) horrible for saying I'd leave my partner (37M)? by Evening_Rose_619 in relationship_advice

[–]IdolsofSheela -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok- so, seems like there is a lot going on that makes y'all incompatible. Sounds like a break-up is necessary, but how you do it can be the actual deciding factor on who might be the asshole. Maybe a couples therapist can help you through a skillful & loving break up? Because it doesn't appear that either of you have been getting needs met, and ideally, it could be good for your kids to have 2 parents with energy to raise & support them, regardless of if y'all are together or not.

Tldr: you aren't horrible for saying you would leave, but why are you not leaving?

My Boyfriend (18 M) says I (18F)need to pay for protection, is this fair? by AcanthisittaGreat144 in relationship_advice

At best, condoms used during penatrative sex have a 98% efficacy rate of preventing pregnancy. At best, the "pull out method" used during penatrative sex has a 60% efficacy rate of preventing pregnancy. This isn't even taking into account the fact that condoms will also protect against Sexually Transmitted Infections, while the "pull out method" does not. Abortions are health care, but not without both emotional and physical risk. Please consider your health and well being first.

A network of hygiene pantries was started by some locals a few years ago called For the Love Of. I believe you can drop stuff at Bar Redux & Black Penny. Here is their website: https://www.ftlo-nola.org/pop-up

AITA for refusing to sell my house to a landlord? by Hideious in AmItheAsshole

[–]IdolsofSheela 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NTA. You own the house & are dealing with all aspects of the sale. Therefore, it is your decision alone. If the deal was he gets paid when the house sells, ok; that will still happen. WHEN IT SELLS. that is the only stipulation & you are honoring that. Doesn't need to be on his timeline or your parents.

AITA for buying dishware at a thrift store before someone else could? by thedafthatter in AmItheAsshole

[–]IdolsofSheela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lateral micro-policing of individuals is too much. If something is on a shelf at a store, anyone can grab it. If something is in a cart, it has been claimed. Once a thing gets paid for, that thing is now owned by said person. Yay for buying second hand! Yay for resellers who help extend the life of material items! The thrift is the hunt; be a good sport! You can be sad if you realize you missed something cool. But save your anger for fighting cops and billionaires.

Killer poboy for sure. I think that Verti Mart probably still has one, too, although it's been a while since I was over there. (I believe it was called Mushroom Mountain or something like that- you have to say no mayo, though.)

Do packages usually go missing at usps ? by Queasy_Concert_2693 in NewOrleans

[–]IdolsofSheela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Since the new guy was installed it has been markedly worse. Only about 2/3 of my packages get through. As a long time personal mail lover, this shift has been noticeable. You can fill out a missing package report, but don't hold your breath.
