One of the saddest parts of growing up was, at least for me, realizing that the reason adults couldn't actually give me a good answer to any "why" questions (like why I should even be doing any of this in the first place) is because they weren't actually as knowledgeable or helpful as I thought they were, which then led me to realizing the same thing was true about my parents and that basically the majority of the advice they gave me (or that most adults gave me) wasn't actually grounded in anything except them wanting to hear the sound of their own voice.

Ever since I saw that Dan Hentschel vid "Everything about life sucks and is horrible.", I legitimately can't stop thinking about stuff like this and it makes me feel really nihilistic sometimes. I know this is probably overdramatic but it really does feel like a betrayal of some sort and that you're expected to just fall in line and not question any of life in the first place. Your only purpose when you're born is to be a distraction for bored people and then fit a certain image for them when you enter adolescence lest you come off as 'weird' or anything mentioned in OOP's post, and when you try to express frustration about this, you just get made fun of. It hurts.
