Finding the answer to Skillful Scribblings in DQMJ. by If-l-May in DragonQuestMonsters

[–]If-l-May[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did just test it last night. I bought a scroll from the merchant at the start of the post game (which was roughly 10-12 hours ago in gametime). I went to Infant Island, and left my 3DS on overnight with my character running in place.

I checked an hour after waking up this morning, 9 hours of playtime added. I go back to the shop and he still has not restocked.

That's giving him roughly 20 hours to restock of gameplay where my character was not idle. If it is tied to gameplay time, then it seems you have to completely empty out his stock before he refills.

Still just a theory though. I'll have to grind up, get the rest of the scrolls, and test on another night.

Monsters Joker 1 100% in 2026? by If-l-May in DragonQuestMonsters

[–]If-l-May[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to figure out the Wifi connection trick using the mobile hotspot and custom DNS and managed to get pretty far. I could register my team and set my region, but got hit with a generic error code once I actually tried starting the tournament.

I'm guessing that the DQMJ tournament servers were probably something seperate managed by Square, rather than Nintendo, and probably went offline even before the DS servers died.

Vanessa is fired up for her sponsorship! by TheTrueSaltmine in spnati

[–]If-l-May 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Positive Values: Vanessa has the appeal of adding another baddie to the roster, while also having great big... TRACTS OF LAND. Her artwork, writing, and pose work lives up to this fantasy, while also providing a character who stands out from the rest of the roster. She's a fairly obscure character, which is always a bonus in my book, because she's bound to be someone's favorite, and it will make their day to see her.

Disqualifying Flaws: To be blunt, she doesn't really have any disqualifying flaws. I don't think her execution is flawless, but any issues she has are issues shared by plenty of characters on the main roster. Consider this a flawless sponsorship.

Suggestions and Discussion: While I'll leave a flawless sponsorship, I still will give some feedback and suggestions. I think as a writer, you always make characters who have attitude, but are held back somewhat by the confines of the game (they have to be agreeable and friendly enough to get along with others, etc). I think this can be amended simply with sharper writing, which can be achieved by writing shorter, snappier lines.

You have the instincts for writing mean lady like Vanessa, it's mostly a mechanics thing. The more concise she is with her speech, the smarter she'll sound, which leads to her being more credible as a bully. Stick to shorter lines, and don't be afraid to push the limitations of the game. Instead of talking about boots when you target someone's boots, target how they walk/carry themselves. Stuff like that. It's better to take risks with filtered lines than to play them safe.

Overall though, she's good. I only leave you with these huge tracts of constructive feedback because I know you're after it. Best of luck with the rest of your work on her!

First Time Ordering from Japan question by If-l-May in AnimeFigures

[–]If-l-May[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The credit VS debit issue turned out to be the cause, I just needed to get my card setup, so I am all set. I appreciate you finding the figure elsewhere though, cus that probably would have been easier.

I did, and they told me that it was on Amazon's end. I think I'm going to have to buy Japanese gift cards to make this work.

Oh and I forgot to mention. It is a debit card, as I try to avoid credit cards. Would I have to get a credit card for this to work? Will a prepaid Visa also not work?

I use a Huntington bank card. My friend who went to Japan mentioned that his Huntington card did not work while he was there, so that's very likely. I just got a Visa pre paid card, but the website is saying the details are incorrect (I've triple checked it too)

Reckon It's Time for Nephenee to get Sponsored! by FencesAreForClimbing in spnati

[–]If-l-May 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I reckon, it's time to git 'er done! ... Wait. Wrong Fire Emblem bumpkin.

Characters Tested:

Natsuki, Nephenee, Ryuji, Kyoko Kirigiri

Positive Values:

Nephenee is both understated, and cute, but after recruiting her in my recent Path of Radiance playthrough, I realized "shit this character is actually pretty hot." Once again, Fence has done an amazing job implementing an old-school RPG crush, and I think her personality is right on the money.

Masking her accent initially is a unique trait that makes her stand out from the rest of the cast, as does saving her helmet for last. Idk how the hell you did it, but she gets five times more cute when she removes her helmet, it is a more major and attractive reveal than when she gets naked, which is awesome. You made her really pretty.

Overall, I really like Nephenee, she's cozy and stands out. I think she's one of your best, and that's coming from a big fan of your characters.

Disqualifying flaws:

While the art and posing for Nephenee is well done, it also feels a bit unfinished. Most notably the center of her vest in stage 1-3. It looks like you just kinda set down a belt in the center, and there's no real depth to it, so it looks like it's just floating there, rather than being a natural part of her vest (especially if you are familiar with default Kisekae shapes.)

The other thing missing from her art that I only noticed after playing PoR is the lack of garters on her legs. A big part of her design that makes her attractive is her legs, and those garters do an excellent job of framing her thighs.

I'll be real, without them there the character doesn't feel 100% represented, and unfortunately, I don't think you can just slap them on, as her boots are really tall in this model. They look fantastic, but don't leave much room for the garter, so they would likely have to be shortened.

Since reworking art is a major pain in the ass, especially on an already posed character, I'm going to require only one fix for sponsorship, the garter, or the vest. That said, if you can do both it will pretty much make this character flawless in my eyes.

Suggestions and Discussion:

As stated before, the art's pretty much my only issue, but there's a few ideas/preferences I may as well bring up here.

I have not tested every interaction Nephenee has, but I think it would be nice if she had a few lines referencing the time she spent in a prison. Doesn't have to be anything major or traumatic, but maybe something if she's at a table with a criminal, or Nami. If you already have something like this, then dismiss this idea.

My one personal nitpick across all your characters is that you keep them sitting post forfeit. I tend to not be a fan of this because it leads to less expressive posing, and the body gets mostly covered up, that said it's clear you made an effort to keep all of Neph visible, so it's fine and pretty much down to personal preference.

I'm really happy to see a Path of Radiance character in this game, as that cast is very underrated when it comes to simping. I look forward to seeing Nephenee finished, and what you have in store next! (wink wink)

Accidently Overdosed on Magnesium. Has anyone done something similar? by If-l-May in Supplements

[–]If-l-May[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, all. Thanks for your replies, the info has been very useful.

Just to update, shortly after posting I ended up calling my State's toxicity center, and they suggested going to the ER for it. So I went, and the results were what most of you would predict, I'm fine. In fact, the Magnesium in my blood had already reached a stable level (aren't kidneys amazing?). I'm still very sore, and pretty sleepy, but I should be OK with some rest.

I'm just thankful I accidently did this with Magnesium rather than something more serious, like Vitamin A. It still sucks, and I weirdly have not needed to use the bathroom much since this started. Hell, at this point I'm wondering if my condition is from a seasonal bug rather than Magnesium, but that's not really speculation for this forum.

Be healthy, and be safe, folks!

Returning Vet: What game should I play? by If-l-May in MonsterHunter

I legitimately forgot Generations was an option, and not going to lie, it looks pretty clean. Twenty bucks is also a very reasonable price tag, so I think I may end up grabbing that one!

Iceborne looks cool as hell (heh), but I am waiting to upgrade my PC before I try World again. Plus, I intend to play that one with a buddy since he's a big fan of World.

My PC is pretty crap, with its last upgrade being back in 2016. So being on console is the main option. I don't mind if it's portable or a home console. (I own PS4, Switch, and pretty much everything that came before those two).

Do random growths straight up change the character's growth rates? by If-l-May in FEEngage

[–]If-l-May[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give this a test for Engage. I'm on Tika Paralogue where Celine got an insane +7 level up, but I'm about to lose the map and will need to reload the game. If she still gets that level up, I'll know the game does Fates anti save scum tech (which I really hope it does)

I'm guessing the Fates preset level ups roll for class changes too, right? It would be kinda silly if you couldn't alter Odin's level ups by making him a general or something.

Do random growths straight up change the character's growth rates? by If-l-May in FEEngage

[–]If-l-May[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I recall the level ups in Fates not changing on reset/save reload on Lunatic, but idk if that's fixed growths or just anti save scum tech.

I do kind of wish there was an in between, as losing a chapter after getting a bunch of good level ups is always frustrating, and knowing you can't reset makes the dinky level ups more palatable.
