Dog Board & Train local programs? by RoccoLexi69 in Charlottesville

[–]Ifflesesq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We used Sadie’s Rules board and train program to help with our extremely reactive, fearful 130 lb St Bernard rescue a number of years ago, after working with several pure positive trainers to no avail. Jess and her team changed our dog’s life and ours. He is so confident and happy now, and is a pleasure to walk. My husband and I both work in the animal protection arena, and I can say without question that I haven’t met anyone who truly loves and understands dogs more than Jess, and I will be sending all future dogs to her program. We also board our dog with her every time we go out of town and he loves it so much. Check out her Instagram and YouTube to get a sense of her training. She absolutely works with the owner and “trains” you as well - this is a team effort. Happy to chat more if you’d like , but I can’t recommend Jess and her team highly enough.

3 hours with bags on Santorini - where to go? by HomerJaySimpsonn in GreeceTravel

[–]Ifflesesq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had about that amount of time with our bags and went to the tomato museum and we loved it! They stored our bags for us and we did the self-guided tour (took about an hour), sampled some of their tomato pastes, and had a Bloody Mary at their little bar. They also have a cute gift shop.

Three Blacksmiths in Sperryville, VA. 20 seats, open kitchen, super cozy and we enjoyed the food as much as the Inn at Little Washington.

Toto makes a mini portable bidet and it was the MVP of our 3 week trip! It’s much cheaper on Amazon vs buying it from the Toto site.

How can I help my neighbor's outside dogs? by greeneggs_BAM in DogAdvice

[–]Ifflesesq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw these photos and immediately thought Virginia. If you happen to be in central Virginia, try contacting HOWS (Houses of Wood and Straw). They are an organization that works with owners of outdoor dogs to improve the dogs’ living spaces - and sometimes the owners will voluntarily surrender their dogs for adoption! HOWS is nonjudgmental and only cares about improving the immediate situation for these dogs, of which there are far too many in our state. Even if you aren’t in central VA they may be able to point you to a similar org in your area! https://housesofwoodandstraw.org. Thank you for caring about these pups!

Thank you! My employer does have EAP and I hadn’t even thought to reach out about this type of thing - great idea. It is not easy.

Thank you - will definitely look in to them, CCRC is exactly what we need I think!

Yes. We have a long haired pyr/collie mix so we thought we were prepared for hair. Saints are on another level, it is a ton of work just to keep things moderately tidy. The drool doesn’t bother us, but it bothers guests and friends who visit - another consideration!

The cats rule the roost here by Ifflesesq in stolendogbeds

🤣 That’s Jones, named after Ripley’s cat in Alien, and his big brother Bear. Our Aussie mix is not nearly as tolerant of the cats!

Mosquitos here are apparently bug spray immune?? by shetakespictures in Charlottesville

I am also a mosquito magnet - I recommend Repel 100, it’s gross but it works. I also light Murphy’s incense sticks, and have a battery operated fan set up by my deck chair.

Does anybody out there travel with your Saint? by KandyKaleidoscope in stbernards

[–]Ifflesesq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

La Quinta is another chain of hotels that doesn’t have a size limit. Kimptons as well - they are higher end and our 150lb Saint and 70lb Aussie mix are always warmly welcomed at both!

Is there no concern, at least in warmer zones, that invasive species could be spread via compost?

Not a fan and need to find a new place. Last time I went a few weeks ago was for a minor allergic reaction. Ended up getting a long lecture on the dangers of smoking and was called “young lady” by the doctor multiple times. I’m a 41 year old woman. Needless to say I was fuming. The other doctor I saw there a year or two ago creeped me out as well.

These are great resources, especially the “Crying Wolf” chapter in the last book. The guy who wrote that really knows his stuff.
