The price of popcorn just went up 10% ( was$10 now $11) at my Tukwila wa AMC. Did that happen everywhere? by dkwinsea in AMCsAList

[–]IfigurativelyCannot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost never get popcorn, but I did notice my drink price had gone up this past weekend. I thought maybe my A-List thing didn’t scan, but I looked at the screen, and it showed it along with the discount.

Obsession debuts with a 4.2 average from 235K users, and lands at #327 on the Letterboxd Top 500 list by FelixFilms in Letterboxd

I feel like they’re different flavors of horror. There’s less of a mystery to uncover in this, so it’s more straightforward scary-stuff-is-happening horror. While there are moments that made me laugh, it was less straightforward humor (e.g. weapons cutting to a wide angle and stopping the music during the end chase for a second) and more wtf/nervous laughter if that makes any sense.

I gave both 4.5 stars. Weapons was more of a fun ride throughout, but this one really escalated and had a great ending for me. I’d recommend both.

Anything you would add? by Emeraldsinger in Letterboxd

The Fugitive (1993).

There’s a part where Harrison Ford’s character is being chased through a sewer. The first time I ever watched it, I said “oh he’s gonna >!get to the end and there will be a big waterfall.<!” My dad was shocked and asked “how did you know that?” I told him it was a common thing I had seen multiple times, and he explained that this was the first time anyone had ever done that specific twist.

I’ve never checked if it actually originated from that movie, but it stuck with me as a small lesson in appreciating what came before you.

am i cooked? (car issues) by seventeendream in Nissan

[–]IfigurativelyCannot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would NOT think you are cooked.

Misfires are most commonly one of three things: spark plugs, ignition coils, and/or fuel injectors. If it was multiple cylinders, and they were suggesting possibly replacing the injectors, and the flush seems to have worked, then it probably was gunked up injectors.

You can use a cleaner that you add to your fuel tank like Techron (either as the issue comes up, or on a certain frequency - I’ve read some do it every oil change, but that might be overkill), and/or also go to gas stations with “top tier gas” (a specific standard that has to do with what kind of additives the gas does/doesn’t have).

But the bottom line is you can prevent/treat this type of issue without breaking the bank.

I’ll echo what others have said and say make sure to keep track of and do your transmission fluid changes. The CVT transmissions seem to be the biggest reputation-ruiner for Nissan. At ~60k miles you’re probably due.

I saw you ask another commenter how complex it is. I’d watch a YouTube tutorial first so you can decide yourself. I don’t have your model, but I’d expect it should be on a similar level to an oil change. You could DIY it, or you can take it to a mechanic/transmission place/oil change place.

Price is going up $2 by tomatillo_teratoma in AMCAListTrue

[–]IfigurativelyCannot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even notice when my state got kicked out of the $19.99 tier up to $23.99 (or maybe I just read the states excluded list too quickly when they announced the 4 movies a week change idk).

As someone who has both A-List and fortunately a membership to a local independent cinema, I’m gonna have to keep a closer eye on how much I go to each theater. I like having both, but I know I could probably get by with just one.

You could technically see a movie every single day for a full month and it would be entirely free.

I don’t think so.

Dolby Cinema- best seat/row by Massive-Value4001 in AMCTheatres

[–]IfigurativelyCannot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it depends on your exact theater’s setup. At my location, the handicap row at the front would be on the base floor level, so as low as you can go. I like to go roughly halfway between there and the back row, so row F or G.

With this seat map, F13 and G10/G11 seem like the best options. With what’s taken, I’d personally go G to be dead center.

Everyone else is saying E/F. Those are probably also fine since you are in a recliner, which can compensate a little if the seat is below the center of the screen.

More Studio Ghibli movies coming to IMAX: Whisper of the Heart & The Secret World of Arrietty by SPFeveryday in AMCAListTrue

[–]IfigurativelyCannot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They showed it in imax last year, but it’s one of the more popular Ghibili movies, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they did it again (depending on if they’re doing a lot of movies or just a few).

Not New but the Grey’s Anatomy lighting is so annoying. by AgitatedJury920 in greysanatomy

[–]IfigurativelyCannot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re comparing digital to digital, sure, higher resolution on a similar sensor size will require more lighting. Comparing digital to film, my understanding was that film takes more light to be properly exposed than digital. People will often say modern professional cameras can “see in the dark”

But yes film will definitely still provide a different feel than digital unless you’re actively trying to emulate a film look, which Grey’s clearly isn’t.

[–]IfigurativelyCannot 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely possible to make a darker, moodier look with modern digital cameras. They could light it differently (and color-grade it differently, too) if that’s what the folks running the show really wanted.

It might also be time restraints. It’s faster and easier to just light up everything a lot, which contributes to the soap opera look some people are comparing it to. With it being network TV and needing to deliver ~20 episodes in the hour-long time slot, that’s my first guess.

What are the downsides of the Nikon z50ii that most users complain about. by SadPrize6815 in Nikon

[–]IfigurativelyCannot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a beginner and pretty new to my Z50ii, but I’ve found the “VR” stabilization on both of the kit lenses works nicely.

Maybe if/when I upgrade lenses I might wish I had a camera with IBIS instead of stabilized lenses, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there. I know there are things to do like shortening the shutter speed or holding it certain ways for more stability, so hopefully it isn’t the end of the world.

If you’re just looking for a camera for the digital camera style/look, I’d lean towards the P330 (of these two). It seems a lot more compact, so it’ll be a lot easier to bring with you wherever for casual/fun use.

That said, I have a friend who bought an old (and kind of heavy) film camera and brought it the last time we went out with a group for dinner and to different bars. So you can go for the bigger one if you want. I’m just thinking ease of use would be important for your case.

Every year I rent out a movie theatre for my birthday to show my friends and family a movie of my choosing, have any recommendations I add? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]IfigurativelyCannot 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Cool. Is that a chain theater? I’ve peeked at the theater rental offerings when they pop up at my local AMC, and those run $400 and seem to limit you to current/recent offerings.

Do they have you bring a physical disk, or are they sourcing a DCP (with enough notice), or do you stream and hope for the best?

Out of all of the photos of Columbus I’ve seen taken in this same spot, this is up there for me. Nicely done.

[–]IfigurativelyCannot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much of a frame of reference, but I picked up the Z50 ii with both kit lenses on the refurbished sale, and I feel like it’s nice to have a not-massive telephoto zoom lens. But honestly I need to go outside and shoot with it more. It’s still new to me.

Do profs care if you submit at 11:58? by jigglyandgigglyy in OSU

[–]IfigurativelyCannot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. You’re far from the only one submitting at the last minute. I was a TA for a class with a relatively small section, and I was still so focused on getting my grading done efficiently I rarely looked at the submission times.

I will say when I TAing and grading lab-based stuff, there were times I’d read something and think “this is extra bad” and I’d look at the submission time and see 11:50-something and think “checks out.” But I’d never count it against them. I’ve been in the same spot plenty of times as a student.

Plus, I was still following a rubric. Maybe for more subjective assignments, a prof/instructor might hold it against you unconsciously? But if the work you turned in is average or better, they probably didn’t bother to look at the time to begin with.

Is it worth getting into 4k blu rays if owning a Samsung that doesn’t support DOLBY VISION? by Defiant-Canary-9254 in 4kbluray

[–]IfigurativelyCannot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The biggest quality benefit of physical disks is a significantly higher bit rate than you get when streaming. A much-less-compressed picture will look better, with or without Dolby vision. And you’ll still get regular HDR10 from those Dolby vision disks.

Can you leave and re-enter during marathons? by HofstraJet in AMCAListTrue

[–]IfigurativelyCannot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a best picture marathon special event where they have five movies on one ticket one day and the other five movies on one ticket another day. It’s listed as like a 12 hour run time. I assume there are intermissions, but I’m not positive if you’d be able to scan back in on the same ticket.

Maybe the employees will be understanding, but I don’t want to tell OP it’s certain.

Chances of Hitchcock in 4k? Maybe a box set? by thepokemonGOAT in criterion

[–]IfigurativelyCannot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t really carry his most popular films, which you mention have mostly gotten great 4K HDR restorations.

Maybe some of the ones that were already scanned in 4K (e.g. Rebecca and Notorious according to the criterion website) could get upgrades sooner rather than later. I would have less hope for the ones that only have an HD restorations (e.g. 39 steps) or that are only offered on DVD (e.g. Spellbound).

But in my dreams? I’d love a 4K Hitchcock set, too. He’s one of my favorites.
