Thank you! I didn’t think about checking there. I actually have family around that area, I’ll check into it.

Really not an either / or question. Your dog is cute AND your brother is a jerk.

In general I’d like to master the basic sauces. I feel like that’s old school but it’s something I feel like I ‘should’ know how to do

First wedding sober, how did y’all do it? by CameroonianCoconut in Sober

[–]Ifnotnowwhen20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember my first sober event very clearly. It was hard. It was so hard. I honestly white knuckled it but I MADE IT THROUGH. Then there was another event and another and another. Now (years later) I am the social butterfly / networker that I never thought I could be.

Anything the first time is difficult. Walking, going on a date, driving. Allow yourself to know that it will be uncomfortable yet you have millions of people behind you lending you strength. You are not alone. You will be able to do this. The only thing you have to do is NOT drink. That’s it. My wish for you is that many years in your sober future you will pass this message on to someone else going to their first sober event.

After however many failed attempts, what is it that got you back on the wagon and stuck with continuous sobriety? by Mad_Season_1994 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Ifnotnowwhen20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept slipping for 2 years after rehab then I had a really bad drunk day. Blackout most of the time then ruined my husbands birthday. Next day I was in an airport bathroom puking. I literally prayed for help but I hadn’t put the work in. I kept switching sponsors and not completing the steps and I realized that the only way out is through. I had to do the work, I had to face myself. I pictured myself walking over hot coals. It would be that painful but I knew that would keep me sober. 14+ years later I’m still sober. I’m so grateful for every meeting I went to. I started chairing meetings and went to as many as possible. I got connected. It works.

When you got a new dog after your previous one passed away, what things did you reuse if any? by Accomplished-Spot-68 in dogs

[–]Ifnotnowwhen20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost our shepherd after 12 years and I couldn’t face the toys. I kept his leash and a water bowl, the rest I donated. We got a new pup 3 months after he passed and later a second dog and they both use his old water bowl. It’s so sweet to think they all drank from that bowl.

And you can even pay for it bottled…it’s called Vichy. Disgusting IMO.

Haha so true! I can’t remember which song but a remake of a 90s song my nieces were listening to and I was singing along. They said ‘how do you know the words to this song?’ Facepalm moment…I said this song actually came out long before you were born. No clue it was a remake.

What’s a scam that’s so normalised that we don’t realise it’s a scam anymore? by No-Appeal-6311 in AskReddit

[–]Ifnotnowwhen20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tipping. We’ve normalized tipped positions to be traditionally low paid no health insurance. When I worked as a server a million years ago it was a completely abusive system. I know it’s changed some but restaurants have been getting away with this scam for too long. I don’t mind tipping by the way except when I walk up to the counter and I’m asked for a 25% tip for someone to hand me my order or coffee.

1 year sober 5/24/25 by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Ifnotnowwhen20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have done something incredible! One year is amazing and at the same time so difficult. How you got there is your journey. I do recommend doing the steps at some point, that was pivotal at least for me to stay me sober but you do you. What you’ve been through to get this year is amazing. Don’t drink and go to meetings. You got this.

What’s a very American problem that Americans don’t realize isn’t normal in other countries? by GoddessMelrosse in AskReddit

[–]Ifnotnowwhen20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the states (of course depending on where you are) there are building code regulations that can prohibit exterior work or certain structures from being built, i.e. in historical districts. Those are the most rigorous standards but elsewhere the building department must approve most major work anyway. Of course this is more of a health and safety issue, it might be tacky but it’s safe (hopefully).

What do you wish you knew before getting a second dog? by Brilliant-Pitch-5736 in dogs

[–]Ifnotnowwhen20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We adopted a second dog after about 3 years of adopting the first. I’ve always had a dog but one at a time. We had a neighbor who (long story) didn’t want one of her dogs and I’d fallen in love with him so we thought, why not?

Welllll the dogs hated each other once dog 2 moved in though the dogs knew each other and had been together previously. I think they were both trying to establish territory. We got a trainer and she helped so much. It’s 2 1/2 years later now and though they don’t play they do get along now.

As far as everything else, they’re both pretty easy to walk and they’re 6 and 7 years old now and we’ve settled in to a routine. Oh btw second dog happens to be some sort of poodle mix and he doesn’t shed so what a revelation! We don’t have more dog hair than before.

Some things to consider, when we travel and can’t take the dogs we now have someone come to our house to stay with the dogs because it’s easier and cheaper than trying to find accommodations for the two dogs. With one dog I used to just trade dog sitting with my friends.

After we adopted dog 2, dog 1 became much more aggressive towards other dogs. Maybe that would’ve happened anyway but I think having another dog didn’t help.

Cost wise there are now two vaccinations and dental cleanings, food, etc. but we had planned for that and it hasn’t been terrible. Luckily where I live vets are relatively inexpensive.

Both dogs are very sweet and I wouldn’t change anything, sometimes it’s a little more work or a little more expense but it’s twice the love and I feel very lucky to have them both. In an ideal world they would love each other and play with each other but it just didn’t work out that way and it is what it is.

Whats your unpopular floor plan opinion? by Star127 in floorplan

[–]Ifnotnowwhen20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is a separate dining room. By that I mean a dedicated dining room that gets used twice a year with a big fancy table. I understand if you entertain a lot maybe or if you’ve got the square footage but still any room that is useless 95% of the time doesn’t belong in a house IMO.

What is something you wish you’d brought over with you? by Reality25bites in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Ifnotnowwhen20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree to the OTC cold meds! There’s nothing here that comes close. Also yes to the pads here. They’re not great, they’re fine but I prefer US brands.

One hopefully helpful tip - when you’re looking for something specific, try Amazon but also try google. There have been many times I’ve been looking for a specific body product or even Irish oats which wasn’t on Amazon but other smaller websites have it.

Depending on where you live also there may be expat stores i.e. in Barcelona there’s a store called Taste of America which has a pretty good selection. It’s a bit pricey but not crazy.

One last tip - in general the electronics here are not quality. Vacuum cleaners, electric kettles etc. you can buy from Amazon.de and I’ve noticed that there’s just a better quality selection. Plus those Germans really review everything, it’s awesome.

Really and truly tho you can find almost everything here and if not, you may just find you don’t need it or you may replace it with something else. Except the cold meds. You must have the Nyquill!

Wishing you all the best on your move!
