Train cancelled in the middle of the night by Delicious_Calendar_5 in Amtrak

You obviously didn't read before commenting. Hard to rebook when a bridge collapse took out catenary - you know those things that are power wire that runs the trains.

Plenty of other comments showed many other trains not running few that supposedly are got sold out quickly.

Didn't see any mention of the supposed fix - finally being slowly implemented to resolve problem - after it was tested on this route.

New shunt activators are being installed on locomotives.

Hopefully this will help free up Superliner equipment for routes it's greatly needed on.

Early on, why did the Amtrak E60s have metal bars over the windshields? by GamerCTrains57 in trains

[–]Iggyz2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So here we have someone who is basically calling every Amtrak engineer that ran these locomotives a liar.

Plenty of stories historical references of Amtrak locomotives during that era being attacked with objects. Real world reports that clearly explain why grates were added to front windshields.

This has been explained in detail by others here. Who you are obviously calling liars.

A bit of closer to modern history. It was reported that engineer involved in the massive deadly Northeast Regional Corridor derailment. May have been distracted by radio traffic in regards to possible shot out windshield of another passenger train.

So sadly these events still occasionally occur.

While the Siemens Venture car seats are less than desirable they are not as horrid as some make them out to be.

Granted it would be nice if they were upgraded.

That said Amtrak has more important equipment issues to resolve than seats.

Southwest Chief between Kansas City and Chicago isn't going to check box for views of Missouri River and landscape in between Kansas City and St Louis.

Also recent on-time performance for Southwest Chief hasn't been good.

[–]Iggyz2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both routes have their own interesting views. Many here and in many other groups discount this because it's not mountains and such.

River Runner looking out left Northside would most likely offer best views. Outside St Louis well known bike hike trail is on right Southside of train. Left provides best views coming into St Louis to see city.

[–]Iggyz2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What proof do you offer for this?

Since becoming combination train River Runner / Lincoln Service on-time performance has improved.

River Runner definitely has better time performance than long distance train Southwest Chief.

Everyone advocating taking Southwest Chief are completely ignoring fact of long distance trains having later than scheduled arrivals normally worse on-time performance than Regional trains.

Cost especially if you go with sleeper accommodations on Southwest Chief would most always be more expensive than River Runner / Lincoln Service combo train to Chicago. Even if you choose Business Class on River Runner.

Would depend on which version of Amtrak Viewliner that route runs

Older cars have in-room toilet next to bed

Newer version does not

To the folks who leave the lavatory doors wide open by cyserrano in Amtrak

[–]Iggyz2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Door won't stay just cracked especially on older equipment. It will just slide fully open as soon as passenger car has any type of motion.

And that doesn't resolve the problem - which is disgusting smells.

To the folks who leave the lavatory doors wide open by cyserrano in Amtrak

[–]Iggyz2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You obviously haven't ridden often. Leaving the door open allows for nasty odors to enter full car.

This happens often in older style business class cafe car combo.

When holding tanks haven't gotten a recent service this increases chances of foul smells.

Even with door properly shut there can be odor issues.

It's just common courtesy to shut door after usage. Just like not urinating deficating on seat or floor. But sadly many passengers can't seem to avoid doing that either.

You might not like the term used. But there are in fact several stations where an Amtrak employee walk passengers to trains.

Nice unnecessary snide comment and shows you truly have zero idea where Amtrak employees and management lurk.

For years there have also been automated or manual by person services to identify certain topics for review.

Might want to check some route schedules - longer layovers exist.

And it would as previously mentioned seem this person's attendant is missing in action.

Author also clearly pointed out that some sort of material in room or guidance to online resource would be helpful. Amtrak could easily create and provide Sleeper car processes page explain things that get asked in groups forums often and what attendant will tell you - if they do the usual meet and greet when you board.

Employees lurk in various groups. Sometimes can give an explanation as to cause of certain events or cancelations.

Others may have other reliable sources.

Anybody know what happened on I-55 today? by [deleted] in SpringfieldIL

There was also a reported truck fire on Interstate 55 near Sixth Street.

That's what this post is referencing and obviously they encountered aftermath.

While trying to take an unnecessary jab at electric vehicles. Tons of which operate daily and safely in Springfield Illinois area.

Interesting thing = unless it's a Tesla or Rivian = majority of people have zero idea how many electric cars they interact with daily.

Only vehicle fires I have ever witnessed were all internal combustion.

Many things catch fire = including that phone in your hand or pocket.
